“    yeah,  i  bet  those  star  spangled  panties  really  cut  off  the  circulation  to  your  brain.    ”    

she  sidles  up  to  his  shoulder,  a  pinching  glower  hovering  as  she  looks  past  him  to  the  screen.    her  fingertips,  peered  out  from  the  half  cuffs  of  her  gloves,  inch  in  over  the  sorry  denim  cloaking  her  thighs  at  the  itch  to  get  on  the  keys  in  place  of  him.    

“    at  least  that  would  explain  why  you’re  typing  like  a  goddamn  grandpa.    is  that  how  they  came  up  with  the  nickname?    ”    both  of  her  index  fingers  punch  through  the  air  in  a  mime.    “    FALCON?  because  you  hunt    &    peck  like  a  bird?    ”  

“    let  me.    ”    she  snatches  the  mouse  in  a  quick  maneuver,  smoothing  the  cursor  over  to  a  grainy-edged  figure  silhouetted  in  the  corner  of  an  equally  pixelated  photograph  stamped  right  in  the  middle  of  the  page.    a  jabbing  point  cuts  into  a  wavy  line  out  behind  the  shape.    “          —–    what  does  that  look  like  to  you?    ”

𝐈 𝐆𝐋𝐀𝐍𝐂𝐄 𝐓𝐎𝐖𝐀𝐑𝐃𝐒 𝐌𝐘 𝐅𝐑𝐈𝐆𝐈𝐃 𝐅𝐈𝐍𝐆𝐄𝐑𝐒,       they’ve daintly remained slender and modest for as long as i can remember,       ever since i could recall the bold sound of my mother’s voice under our  less-than-unbending  house ceiling,    all those years ago.        the skin is covered by my sweater of choice this fall;      a dark gray fabric which resembles the look of a robust cloud in the sky.         i notice something otherwise irrelevant to the story,      𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒚 𝒔𝒆𝒆𝒎 𝒕𝒐 𝒃𝒆 𝒔𝒉𝒓𝒊𝒏𝒌𝒊𝒏𝒈,      [    my fingers,    i mean.     ]         i don’t often stare at them as i am right now,      but such words spoken by  𝗖𝗔𝗣𝗧𝗔𝗜𝗡 𝗔𝗠𝗘𝗥𝗜𝗖𝗔  have struck a sensible chord.        there is a part of me that wishes to remain silent,        to brush off such  generous  invitation towards social building tendencies   ———    perhaps a few years ago my general disdain for overly masculine figures would have been prevalent    ———   𝐛𝐮𝐭 𝐬𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐞,   𝐝𝐨𝐧'𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐲?       and so do people,    and souls,    and minds.         i take it upon myself to inhale the aroma of toasted coffee beans still coming from the kitchen,      which i’ve turned into espresso.       the mug in front of me is proof of it,        𝚝𝚑𝚎𝚢 𝚔𝚎𝚎𝚙 𝚝𝚑𝚘𝚜𝚎 𝚜𝚊𝚖𝚎 𝚏𝚒𝚗𝚐𝚎𝚛𝚜 𝚠𝚊𝚛𝚖  &  eventually i allow the interaction to continue freely into whatever it will become.

❝      friends  ?       that is a big word,    isn’t it,    SAM  ?      ❞       reaching forward to direct the coffee mug into my mouth,      my eyes instantly travel in direction to him,       𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡 𝐢 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐮𝐧𝐬𝐮𝐜𝐜𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐟𝐮𝐥𝐥𝐲 𝐚𝐯𝐨𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐝 𝐢𝐭.     i cannot quite tell you why,       but these days i merely act out of instinct.       the less i question my own actions,       the better.       my lips  &  my tongue taste the bitter substance,      and for a moment i swear i forget i have company.       a hum exits my nose,           𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗲 𝗶𝘀 𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝘀𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗹𝘆 𝗵𝗼𝘁.        thoughts run through my head as i attempt to compose myself after the unexpected mishap,       all relating wilson’s request.         ❝      what do you believe natalya would say  ?       she’d say you were delusional.      ❞        a napkin brushes across my lips,      my uneven eyes still fixed on him.        ❝      wait,     no.       i know what you are going to say     . . .      ‘  𝒊 𝒂𝒎 𝒎𝒚 𝒐𝒘𝒏 𝒑𝒆𝒓𝒔𝒐𝒏  !  ’       or something like that  ?        ❞       i simply chuckle out of spite,     but i do not mean to poke fun at him,       or to belittle his attempts.        𝐬𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐞𝐥𝐬𝐞 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐟𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐬 𝐦𝐞 𝐝𝐞𝐞𝐩𝐥𝐲.       ❝      i am curious,    though.       why do you want me to be your friend  ?       ❞
