Designing with purpose

Design is about imagining, planning and creating things. There are countless things that can be created, but a fundamental part of any process is to focus on the idea and purpose of the project.

Martina Flor, a graphic designer and illustrator who is a reference in drawing letters, took these factors into account while developing the cover of Net Magazine. She uses capital letters and a thick body in order to highlight what the magazine is talking about, without losing legibility. She also uses colours with contrast between the background and the letters to give even more emphasis on the topic. These are things that I really admire and love while creating something. The idea of being able to get people's attention and giving them the context of a magazine, for example, just by an image is really fascinating. As I am a big fan of letters, this seems even more impressive, especially because no other way of sharing this idea was used to support it (like a picture or an illustration).

Excited to share Ribbons, a new collab with @positype! All our experience at drawing ribbon type put together in one typeface. This font is a sincere and well-conceived solution to providing beautiful ribbon-styled type in print and online, and I hope you all designers will love it! ⠀ ⠀ Full credit to @eliasjprado, for keeping up with drawing infinite alternates for this typeface, and to Neil for putting it together masterfully 🙏🏼 ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ Check out the font through the link in my stories. ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ More details about this family:⠀ ⠀ Ribbons provides both flat and ‘folded’ options with the Regular and Fold styles, but then raises the bar with separate layer styles that will allow you to easily create the elegant back and forth movements produced with ribbon-style lettering we have all come to appreciate. These layer options are provided in both ‘smooth’ and ‘pleated’ connected styles.⠀ ⠀ Each typeface was expanded with a number of stylistic alternates, additional swashed and flourished letters, ligatures, and even more in order to provide as many decorative options as possible to the creative.
