"... are you going to eat me?" she's not quite sure how she should react in this situation. one moment she'd been swimming, minding her own business, and in the next she bumped what she thought was a shark only to find a mermaid there instead. "umm I'd appreciate it if you didn't! I don't think I'd taste all that yummy, but I guess that's just my opinion..."
“ DO YOU KNOW HOW OFTEN I hear that? ” they lament. “ are you going to eat me? ugh. as if there aren’t a dozen other things to do with humans. ” trade with them, drown them, lure them to their assured and rocky death – well, alright. maybe there’s a bit of a theme, here.
“ I’m full right now, anyway. ” floating on their back, they stretch completely out next to her, observing the both of them with a critical eye, like they’re sizing her up. she’s not even the length of their tail, but then again, not many humans are. “ you’d probably taste better than a sailor, though. ” they pause. “ with some exceptions. ”
ducking underneath the water, they pass underneath her, swirling in a lazy circle before resurfacing. they seem to still be sizing her up, drifting well into her personal space, sinuous tail brushing absently against arms and legs. it is partially curiosity that has them inspecting her like this. after all, it’s not often that they run into someone while they’re out swimming – the mer is far too skittish around popular areas for that. “ hm. how well can you swim? and how fast? ”
