Marvel played Tony stans and is trying to do so again.

Honestly to a certain extent this punking began in Age of Ultron when they gave Tony Ant Man's role but they were definitaly punking us in Civil War where Tony was right and Steve was wrong but Steve kicks his ass and wins and the only one to ever be upset by Steve's terrible, selfish behaviour is Tony. Then the Captain America writers ignored Tony's arc (which is about family and recovery) to murder him while giving Steve everything. And the defense from Endgame stans is, quite literally, he is an egoist who needed a redemptive death. Captain America fans look at Tony and see a villain. They cast RDJ as Doom to try to make everyone do the same. It won't work on Tony stans of course. But it might work in that it will get Tony stans to give Marvel money. Please for the love of Tony, don't. This not them suddenly giving a damn about Tony. This is them thinking that RDJ is their golden goose and they never should have ditched him, but they're also making clear that they look at RDJ and see a villain character. And like Stane after calling Tony a golden goose they're going to attempt to kill him again and unlike Stane will succeed. It was always a mistake to watch Marvel and it did not suddenly stop being a mistake because they're bringing RDJ back just to kill off his character again.

Tony's ending was always an insult and the last episode of What If? proves just how much of an insult. It ignored his actual arc, themes, and symbolism about survival, resilience, family etc for "he has to die in order to be a hero cause he's just that bad." It ignored his intelligence and creativity to demand that he believe and obey a wizard who told him that there was only one way (even though in Infinity War our heroes could have beaten Thanos if Thor and Peter hadn't failed and if Strange had let the time zone be destroyed when Tony advised him to do so. And no, Tilda Swinton mumbling that destroying them would be allegedly bad does not evidence make when Thanos destroyed every single one and nothing bad happened). It was also insulting that Tony couldn't come up with a way to survive. Peggy Carter using the infinity stones and waltzing away in What If? is just the cherry on top of the shit sundae and extra proof if more is needed that Tony's ending was based on the hate and furthermore the contempt Captain America stans have for him. There is no reason Tony couldn't use space nonsense or whatever the heck. The people on the Captain America side of things are thought to be special and deserving and Tony is to them neither. Peggy using the stones and living is just the stans taunting Tony's stans.

Tony's death made everything meaningless

If you take a character that is resilient and adaptable whose defining moment is bursting out of the cave that was intended to be his tomb and flying away and whose arc is about recovery and also about finding a family and whose heart is the heart of a series and kill him cause he is too bad to deserve a happy ending (it's redemption!) or his sacrifice needs to be permanent while another character gets his undone you are undoing everything good and hopeful about the series. You can fight the entire series for something and it is for naught cause you need to die cause some wizard told you however illogical and obviously stupid that is. Your characterization and arc mean nothing. Your family means nothing. There is no future, sashay off to the past.

On the terrible arguments for Tony's ending

Anyone who does not hate Tony's ending has at best contempt for Tony or fools and you can tell by the arguments used. "It's full circle!" means "I think repeating a line automatically makes thing full circle for some reason." "He's Christ" means either "Not enough to be resurrected like Christ though because he is not in fact Christ" or "Handel's Hallelujah chorus is about Christ's crucifixion right?" "He's Uncle Ben" means "This main character and hero was not really a main character and hero but a side character and mentor figure to be fridged so a real main character and hero can angst." "It is redemptive" means "He has been such a terrible person he doesn't deserve a happy ending." "It made him into a hero/it is shocking that he would be sacrificial" means "I have ignored all of his heroism and sacrifice plays throughout the series." Honestly Discourse would be better if people simply said they did not care when they do not and actually thought arguments through before making them. Every argument I've heard makes me more convinced I am right.

What I really liked about episode 7 of What If…? is that it really showed that Hela’s quarrel was with Odin, not with Asgard. And it made me think of the problem I always had with Ragnarok, where Hela was a flatter character than she should have been. And also that the movie could have gone so differently had Loki told her from the start, “I was the one who exiled Odin, because he was a terrible father.” If Hela still wanted a fight after that, then fine, but it would have forced her to give more reasoning and expand how the audience saw her more. Ragnarok is my favorite Marvel movie, but I like that Hela’s character was addressed better in this last episode.

It seems wrong that black widow and hawk eye don’t have a spin off movie yet. I mean the avengers was a giant hit and the others have pre existing franchises that are mega hits. If you ask me they should have them team up and kick some ass. They have roles as side characters in the other franchises but it would be nice to see them do something outside of that.
