I just finished the first two episodes of 'Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man' and it was GREAT!

Outside of a few, very minor discrepancies, I LOVED the first two episodes, and I can't wait for the rest.

My Review (NO SPOILERS):

I found Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 to be kind of anticlimatic. And it also came out 6 years ago. I came into this movie with low expectations. I was very pleasantly surprised.

This movie packed such an emotional punch. It was an emotional roller coaster from start to finish. I cried, I laughed, I cried more, I gasped, I ended the movie with my hand over my heart.

This movie had a lot of heart. From Rocket’s emotional backstory, to the team dynamics, to the character development, to one of the perfect endings that Marvel has ever produced. It was a movie so unique and new, but it drew a lot on the foundation of the previous movies. It was a great blend. 

Plus the villain? One of Marvel’s best. He didn’t even have a motive to help the universe or galaxy in some twisted form of logic. He was just evil because he’s, at his core, and evil person. And he was so perfectly acted! Of course his actor is a Shakespearean actor. OF COURSE.

I took some points off my overall grade of this movie for only a few reasons. One - the movie was too long for the amount of plot that there actually was. I was surprised it was 2.5 full hours...it didn’t feel like all too much happened in terms of the story. The story was still good though. A few plot holes but nothing too bad.

Furthermore, there was just waaaaaay too much animal cruelty for me. I get that that’s a necessity for Rocket’s backstory, but my soft heart couldn’t take it. Sad and scared animals jut don’t do it for me.

Lastly...Adam Warlock. He was fun to watch but we had a 6 year wait to get to him. I read up on his comic book version and was so excited to see him dominate the MCU. He was fun to watch in this movie, don’t get me wrong. I just expected something different and was kind of disappointed with the direction they went with him.

Overall, a fantastic movie. The rightful beginning to Phase 5 of the MCU (sorry Ant-Man). What a great end to the trilogy.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever

I had no motivation for so long to write an detailed review, but I have a lot to say about this one. So buckle up.

I wish I could say I was touched to the heart by this movie and super emotional, because that is what I expected it to be. But I got disappointed. Again, I must say. Lately that's more often than not by Marvel movies in theatre. And I am willing to like these movies. I want to like the movies. I am a fangirl by heart. It's just missing those little extras, little somethings to make it a wholesome, round experience.

I am no heartless bitch by any means. I know they tributed this movie to Chadwick Boseman. Respectfully so. And the silence during the purple coloured Chadwick themed Marvel intro was breathtaking, nervwrecking, heatbreaking, everything. I felt that!

What I unfortunately not felt was that they made Chadwick's death to T'Challas death. I was absolutely on board with the fact that they decided not to recast T'Challa. It was the correct and only decision they could make. But T'Challa being defeated by sickness and suffering in silence for a long time - these are just too many simitalaries. Let T'Challa die his own death. Let him die in action, on the battlefield as the hero he always was and tribute this to Chadwick. The Queen's death another thing I didn't really felt.

Namor as the villain was fine. I loved the underwater world. I hated his tiny feet wings. I am missing the logic behind the sideeffects of consuming a vibranium influenced plant. People from Wakanda consume it and are gifted with the power of The Black Panther. People in Mexico consume it and have to suffer and live under the water.

The only thing that got me by suprise and made me squeal was seeing Killmonger again. Haven't expected it. Liked it. A lot. Made total sense because of Shuri's intensions and feelings. And Shuri following his path instead of having mercy at the end, would have been so much more interesting and adventorous to go along with. I would have loved to see this. Let her go rogue. Let her burn this world down as she said at the beginning. Let her grieve consume her. Because why the hell not? She lost everyone. But no, that's not her way, because that's not the typical Marvel way to handle things. Too ruthless.

Too ruthless? Wait... there was someone else in the movie. RiRi Williams, a 19 year old innocent, but genious MIT student being picked up by Princess Shuri and Okoye. She wasn't amused at all that these strangers got her into big trouble with the FBI and she needed to leave everything behind and go with them. But when they were chased by the feds through the city she didn't even hesitated to risk her live by destroying a satelite (which I never actually felt is a real threat) in 30000 ft and loosing all oxygen. She topped that with bombing away several police cars and officers infront of bridge and noone even batted an eye on it including her. (When Wanda did something similar in Civil War her guilt and the consequences consumed a big part of that movie)

On the other side they won't let Shuri kill Namor who started a war with her country and killed her people. They fighting to death at that beach. I mean Shuri is speared through the middle of her stomach and Namor was cut off his weird achilles wing thing and even set on fire. All of that only for them to decide on peace and showing up on the battleship by casually holding onto an airplane onehanded as if they just got back from a honeymoon.

It's all inconsequent. Not logically enough. They put way more effort in these kind of things during the Infinity Phase. But apparently not anymore and that's why we are not feeling the same hype anymore in the MCU.

Besides all that, I was personally offended by what they did to Okoye. I am a Okoye fangirl. She is the badest of the badasses. Not only degrading her, but also putting her in the ugliest suit on planet earth. Midnight Angel my ass. She deserves better.

M'Baku as King of Wakanda? Hell yeah, I'm here for it. He is a fine specimen of a man.

Ross was married to Val who is director of the CIA? What the actual fucking fuck is going on...

Multiverse of Madness Thoughts

slight spoilers ahead

Just a forewarning: I’m not a fan.

Sam Raimi- I don’t like Sam Raimi. I don’t understand why MCU stans love him so much (all I heard was praise for him, but I’m personally not a fan of his extremely campy style). While I enjoyed the creepiness and violence he brought, that was about it. And honestly, even a lot of that just seemed so unoriginal. The whole movie felt like a bad parody.

Dialogue- The corniness of the dialogue goes too far, so much so that it transforms characters! Doctor Strange doesn’t even talk like Doctor Strange. It reduced the characters to cringy stereotypes lacking any depth or development (yes, even Wanda). It’s actually awful that they took such talented actors such as Benedict Cumberbatch, Elizabeth Olsen, and Rachel McAdams, and forced them to say the most embarrassing shit you’ve ever heard.

Wanda- I don’t want to spoil anything too big, but I had high hopes that this movie would begin to deal with some of the loose ends WandaVision left. It didn’t. Instead it took all of Wanda’s emotional development and completely shitted on it. She was certainly a menacing villain, but lacked any sort of emotional depth or sympathy. She was completely flat and one dimensional. And the only ties to her backstory were related to her children. Nothing else. She has so much material in her backstory, but all they wanted to use was Billy and Tommy. Just to clarify- I don’t disagree with Wanda being a villain, and she was definitely a badass one, it’s more about how much her character has to offer, versus what the movie actually used.

Cameos- They were incredibly disappointing. Kevin Feige was right in saying that they spoiled too much in the trailers. There were only two interesting ones, and frankly I didn’t care about either, and I don’t care about them any more after how this film left them. It seemed wasteful, and (again) hinted at characters that may not have any real significance for years.

Plot- Marvel is just so convoluted (more on that down below) that the whole plot was a weirdly paced disaster. It was unoriginal, basic, and frankly, difficult to care about.

The visuals were cool though.

The Downfall of Marvel- I’ve gotta be honest, it’s caused me to lose a lot of faith in Marvel. Essentially all of the recent projects have been extremely flawed. They’re so concerned with future projects, and expanding the universe that they aren’t handling the current projects with the care that they should. There are far too many loose ends for anything to make sense anymore! There’s just so much on the table, and the timeline is getting increasingly convoluted. Think about White Vision, The Eternals, Agatha Harkness, The Young Avengers, etc. All of these storylines have been left completely open. What about Eros, Blade, or the X-Men? These characters have all been hinted at! But when are these characters actually going to show up or return? It could be years! Think about all the other characters and storylines they’ll introduce along the way. When will any of it be dealt with? I think Marvel is getting ahead of itself. It needs to take a step back and look clearly at all they have to deal with and be realistic about what they can accomplish. If Multiverse of Madness showed me anything, it’s that Marvel needs to slow down.

It honesty baffles me how many people didn’t like Eternals.

I was reading some reviews on letterboxd and it’s just so clear to me how so many people lack any sort of thinking or comprehension skills. The amount of people that quite clearly missed so many things about the plot and characters is weird. I honestly think the only real issues with this movie are that kro perhaps shouldn’t have been in the movie, some characters need more attention while others need less, and that Gemma Chan and Richard Madden didn’t have great chemistry.

Idk I feel like this movie was a very mature continuation of a very serious theme I keep seeing pop up in marvel movies, which is whether or not sacrificing one(or more) life for other life is right. It doesn’t take a genius or even an adult to understand the point of the movie and I just don’t get why so many people see it as bad.

Maybe if it was a series people would enjoy that more, and I definitely think that the story would have benefited from a longer run time, but at the end of the day I just can’t understand how people don’t enjoy this movie
