In Marvel Studio's 2024 mega-blockbuster Deadpool & Wolverine, we FINALLY got to see Channing Tatum's long-awaited cinematic debut as Gambit (my 2nd favorite X-Men character, after Wolvie, since 1990!)! (Cont.)
It truly was one of my favorite, most stand-out moments of the movie to FINALLY see a (mostly!) comic-accurate version of Gambit on the big screen! (I say mostly 'cause I really wished he'd had the black eyes with red irises, but I digress! lol) (Cont.)
That moment, along with seeing the return of Wesley Snipes' Blade and Dafne Keen's Laura Kinney/X-23 were among the most thrilling surprises, in a movie that already had me completely OVERJOYED to see Hugh Jackman back as Wolvie (something we all thought impossible after Logan!), and FINALLY ROCKING A COMIC-ACCURATE YELLOW AND BLUE SUIT!! Not to mention all the other Wolvie variants from that INCREDIBLE montage scene, and it even featured other fun and unexpected returns like Chris Evans' Johnny Storm and Jennifer Garner's Elektra! (Cont.)
While 20th Century Fox's 2009 X-Men Origins: Wolverine film did, in fact, feature Gambit's actual first live-action appearance as played by Taylor Kitsch (who did a great job with what he was given), well...I mean, technically it also featured Ryan Renolds' first appearance as Deadpool, but in both cases I kinda feel like they don't really count, because they were just so different from the source material, not to mention underwhelming. There were definitely other positive aspects to that flick (particularly Liev Schreiber's younger Sabretooth), but yeah, I felt Gambit and Deadpool both got pretty shortchanged there. (Cont.)
Thankfully, it's a totally different time now, and I can't wait to see Gambit return in Avengers: Doomsday!!
