🔥 TEAM-UP CARD: Captain America (Steve Rogers) and Bucky Barnes, 1940's look! 🔥
2026 Topps Brooklyn Collection - Captain America 85th Anniversary
Released in Dec. 1940 (cover dated March, 1941) by Timely Comics (which would later become Marvel Comics), Captain America Comics # 1 is where it all began!
Created by Joe Simon and Jack Kirby, that first issue also featured featured the first appearance of Cap's teenage sidekick Bucky, and thus the legend was born!

Yay, we've made it to the end 🥳, as this is the last card I can share from this set!
Unfortunately, the diecut card I drew featuring Isiah Bradley (the first Captain America before Steve Rogers) didn't get approved, which I believe was likely because I drew his silver shield with some comic-accurate writing/letters, completely forgetting you're NOT allowed to have ANY kind of writing on these cards or they'll get rejected! (And I really liked it, too!) 😕
Nonetheless, it was a TRUE privilege and honor to get to work on this retro set celebrating Marvel Comics' history, honoring the timeless legacy of Joe Simon and Jack Kirby through Captain America, and the majority of his most important, related characters from the 60's, and beyond! Thank you, Topps, for the amazing opportunity!!! 🥳🙏🙏🙏

2 notes about this one:
* 1) ALMOST went with the original 1962-66 Steve Ditko version of Spidey's costume (which I also love!), but in the end I just HAD to go with to the legendary John Romita Sr. version instead...His iconic take on Spidey (which began in the comics in 1966 and pretty much defined the character for over 2 decades, even outside of comics), was THE Spidey from my early childhood that I still adore ❤ (before Todd McFarlane came along to enthrall me with his own take)!
(Cont. below)
* 2) This was also my first "upside down Spidey" pose for Topps, which had a very special significance for me because it harkened back to my very first Marvel sketch card EVER (featuring my favorite character no less!), which was an upside down Spidey I did in 2024 for Upper Deck's Spider-man: Renditions set!
Even though this new version has a slightly different pose (with Spidey gesturing "hello", rather than being alarmed, with his Spider sense going off), and is now wearing the above-mentioned Romita Sr. Spidey costume (with smaller eyes, different spider emblem on his chest, etc) for a more appropriate "classic" look to better fit the Brooklyn Collection's retro aesthetics, I kept the same background color (and the more modern McFarlane "spaghetti webbing") as a nod to my first Spidey sketch! 😊
