Sitting here with 6 unfinished WIPs, thinking about writing a Mary Constantine backstory. Because by the math, Thomas is 9 years older than her, which is fine....usually. But we have Mary giving birth to Cheryl at 23, and Thomas is 32. The amount of life he's lived compared to hers is huge! And we can say it was normal for that era, but it really wasn't. At least it wasn't that common during the 40s for this not to be at least partially side-eyed. Personally, I headcanon it was a shotgun wedding. He got her knocked up, and her parents made her marry him. (Because disrespectfully, who the fuck is looking at Thomas Constantine like, "Yeah. That's a catch.") And with Thomas' track record with abuse (physical and sexual).....I mean, I could see Cheryl's conception being a bit....darker.
