@febuwhump day 11: broken fingers
"Just try and hit me. Come on. I dare you." Mary smirked. "Don't feel bad if you can't," she added, condescendingly. "I've had a lot more practice than you."

"Alright." Mary walked to the center of the room. "You're gonna try and hit me."
Donna frowned. "I didn't think we were doing that.."
Donna had asked Mary to train with her. Mary didn't understand why she asked her instead of Dean or Sam, or Jody even, but she felt bad saying no. And it'd been a while since Mary fought without it being life or death.
"Are you going to care about a werewolf's feelings if it's coming at you?" she retorted.
Donna sighed. She came over, getting into a fighting stance. Before she could move, Mary kicked her legs out from under her. Donna hit the ground hard on her hip, groaning loudly.
"You're not stable." Mary pointed out, walking around her. "Get up."
Donna glared and sat up, though the hip she fell onto protested the movement. "You could've just corrected me." she huffed.
Mary grinned. "Getting thrown on your ass teaches you better. Get up."
Their mutual connections had told her enough to figure out what kind of person Donna was. Donna would play fair. Mary didn't want her to. She couldn't determine her fighting skills if she played nice. She'd have to piss her off to see how she really fought. Being angry in a fight meant you were irrational and made mistakes. Mary had to train her out of that, show her how to push the emotions aside and fight smart.
Donna grumbled under her breath and stood, staying farther away from Mary. Mary beckoned her closer.
"Just try and hit me. Come on. I dare you." Mary smirked. "Don't feel bad if you can't," she added, condescendingly. "I've had a lot more practice than you."
That worked. Donna growled and lunged forward, grabbing Mary's arms and pushing her backwards. Mary threw her head forward, colliding with Donna's nose, but Donna didn't let up until Mary's back hit the wall. Mary tried to pry out of her grip, but the sheriff was stronger than she thought.
"That hurt." Donna hissed. Her nose was bleeding slightly. Her chest heaved with her heavy breathing, and Mary tried again to pull her arms away, but Donna pinned her arms against the wall.
"You gonna pin a vampire to the wall?" Mary muttered mockingly. The blonde backed away, letting her go. Was she seriously already giving up? Mary shook her head, and began to walk out. If Donna couldn't handle the truth, she wasn't going to waste her time. As soon as she walked past Donna, two hands firmly pushed her, sending Mary tumbling forward to the floor. She put her hands out to catch her fall, and felt something in her right hand crack as she collided with the cold floor.
Mary rolled onto her back, looking up at Donna. The blonde held her hand out, offering to help Mary up off the floor. Mary stared at her for a long moment, and the sheriff shrugged with a grin. "If you wanna play dirty, we can play dirty. Should've expected that from a Winchester."
Setting her palms on the floor to push herself up, Mary winched as sharp pains shot up her hand. Okay. Maybe she'd just stay on the floor for a moment. "If you're going to go against real creatures, they're not going to play fair." Mary grumbled.
Donna rolled her eyes. "I've been on hunts before, you know? I don't need your help!"
Donna wanted to play dirty? Fine. Mary could do that. Mary hooked her feet behind Donna's knees and yanked. Donna yelped as she fell forward onto her, catching herself on her elbows. With Donna still stunned from the fall, Mary rolled them over, locking her legs with Donna's and bringing her fist down to her face. Her stupid pretty face. She could feel Donna's blood on her fist as she pulled back.
The sheriff recovered quickly, jabbing at her ribs. The impact was solid, and Mary felt the breath leave her lungs. She gritted her teeth and pulled her fist back to hit Donna again, but Donna grabbed her other hand—her injured hand—and squeezed.
Mary faltered, the pain being all she could focus on. Her body acted on instinct as she tried to pull away, but Donna reaffirmed her grip. The shift made Donna press down on a more damaged spot, and Mary cried out, and the moment the sound left her lips, the pain stopped. It ached deeply, but the pressure was gone.
She curled her hand to her chest as a silent truce was called. Donna let her head rest on the floor as she caught her breath, and Mary tried to access how bad the break in her hand was. Her first and second fingers were swollen, her middle finger bent awkwardly at the base.
"Remind me not to piss you off." Donna broke the silence with a breathless giggle.
"Your nose okay?" Mary snorted.
Donna nodded, bringing a hand up to said extremity. "Think so. Sorry for grabbing your hand. You good?"
Mary waved her off. "Good instinct. You might not be useless after all."
The sheriff barked out a laugh. "You thought I couldn't defend myself?"
Mary gave her an apologetic smile in place of a verbal response. Thankfully Donna didn't seem too offended. In the silence, Mary became more aware of their positions. Specifically that she was straddling Donna, still in the same position she had been when she'd flipped the shorter woman on her back.
Donna seemed to have noticed it too. She sat up, setting her hands on Mary's thighs. "You really didn't hold back." she smirked. Mary had clearly underestimated the sweet sunshine blonde.
She gulped, glancing at Donna's lips. Mary certainly wasn't a stranger to a female partner, but she hadn't expected Donna to be interested after some of the comments she'd made. "Not my style."
"I can tell." Donna chuckled, running her hands up Mary's thighs to her hips. "Let me repay the favor.".
we truly deserved to see the mary donna friendship like here are two women who feel most human with blood matted in their hair and a machete in their hand and they're sometimes living in a cabin together. hello???
