Mary kept her eyes closed, sure that she was asleep. It sounded like Skipper saying her name, but that must have been the alcohol, that made sense. When she heard his voice again, her eyes fluttered open, trying to get her vision to focus. “Yea,” she sighed, “I’m here.” She hid under the blankets, not wanting him to see her for the mess she was. “How did you find out?”
Skipper took a step forward, almost wishing to get close to her side. He wanted to hold her, move the falling pieces of hair from her face. Though he was slightly worrisome of what her reaction might have been. “They uh -- Came to the room. The nurses did, I mean. They told me you were here and I was worried. I wanted to make sure you were okay,” Skipper murmured as he took another step forward. “Are you okay?”
