History is not made by Conformists it’s made by originals who dare to cut a line of their own! Eccentrics who see beyond the boundaries of the impossible & Dare! Since our first openly gay #kingjamesi took the throne in 1603 #lgbtqia like #sirfrancisbacon #Shakespeare #MaryWroth “The Dark Lady” mathematician #MaryHerbert #transgender actor writer #MalFrith - #blackbritish composer #IgnatiusSancho #OscarWilde et al have been the #torchbearers of #history - but after Daniel O’connell successfully fulfilled his lifetime obsession to #abolishslavery throughout The Empire in 1833, revisionist historians such as #ThomasCarlyle #Macauley et al have deliberately & systematically erased the achievements of hitherto celebrated #LGBTQ & #blackhistory using a heteronormative Calvinist historiography employing bigotry rather than facts to create a heroic narrative focused on the deeds of Great #straightwhite Men - thereby robbing us of our black & #LGBTQ heroines & heroes & denying everyone The Truth! As a historian I have been committed to breathing life back into the ghosted women & black & #queerheroes & #heroines of #history & campaigning for their achievements to be recognised & the monuments that previously attested to their achievements to be reinstated. A good example is #celebrtity #transgender hero #MalFrith 1586-1659 ⚜️Born female 1587 he lived, dressed, acted, wrote, fought for his king, died & was buried as a man in 1659 in (#lgbtq architect #inigojones ) St Paul’s Cathedral with a monument erected to honour him with a #johnmilton poem recognising transgenderism in the afterlife! After St Paul’s burned down in 1666 Frith’s his tomb was moved to #stbrideschurch Church #FleetStreet & since 1845 it has been shamefully neglected & is now overgrown. It’s time to celebrate to breathe life back into these ghosted LGBTQs of history! #queerhistorymatters #womenshistory #blackhistorymatters - to everyone!
