me3 leviathan dlc in a nutshell
this was all i could think of during the leviathan dlc
FINISHED ME3 LAST NIGHT.
CAN WE TALK ABOUT THE LEVIATHAN MISSION PLEAAAASE !!!?!?!?
I took Garrus (my romance) and Kaidan (my best friend) along, and oh my god oh my god the DIALOGUE you get from these two when femshep starts doing the risky plays with the mech + going underwater.
Cortez saying that Shep needs to use the mech to find the Leviathan, Kaidan immediately going “Wait, are we seriously considering…?”, then when Shep asks for more details from Cortez, Garrus replying to him with “I guess we are.”
When Shep is about to go in, Kaidan interjects AGAIN with “I’m not so crazy about this idea,” as he looks between everyone, and Garrus tries one more time by going “Shepard…”. Shep going “I’ll be fine,” and Garrus just giving a resigned nod.
Imagine how anxious these two were, their usually fairly-cool facades cracking when Shep’s comms disconnect, exacerbated by each other’s worry. Fighting through reaper forces just praying that Shep is down there somewhere, alive.
Then she emerges, and the energy blast that was keeping the shuttle down is gone, and oh my god she did it.
The fact that Kaidan runs to Shep when she collapses on the ground, Garrus still shooting at the forces, both of them very likely thinking just fuck fuck fuck.
THEN Shep regaining consciousness in the shuttle, barely keeping their eyes open, Garrus fuming and Kaidan spiralling with concern. Both of them thinking — is this what will happen when they join the fight on Earth? Will Shepard leave them to save everyone else?
They already know the answer.
Garrus, in a futile attempt to keep the love of his life alive, says in the most severe tone the player ever hears him talk to Shep with, “Never do that again.”
Honestly that specific line rung through me during the end of the game, especially when Garrus has his well-known “And you’ve got to be kidding me,” when we’re forcing him to leave us behind, and Kaidan says “we both know this is the end,” in their last conversation.
Garrus, whose quiet optimism through the trilogy has bolstered Shep’s resolve (whether you romance him or not), being the person Shep placates by pretending she thinks she’ll come back alive. A tether for him to hold onto, so he stays alive.
And Kaidan, who has always been cautious in hoping, being the only person Shep admitted her acceptance to. Agreeing with him that yes, this is it for her.
Just… Kaidan and Garrus bonding over their concern for Shep’s willingness to sacrifice themself for The Cause™ is everything to me.
