Ever notice how MAGAts are always so willing to pounce on a school shooting whenever it can benefit their narrative?

This is the front page on the New York Post over the Minneapolis shooting!

It's super important to MAGAts to highlight the neo-nazi shooter as being transgender and literally demonize all trans people over it.

Meanwhile, Ron DeSantis is hard at work in Florida to paint over a monument to the victims of the Pulse shooting which claimed nearly 50 lives of queer people.

To MAGAts, two lives lost from a transgender shooter is a huge tragedy. But 50 LGBTQ lives taken by a queerphobe is something we need to move past and erase from history.

I don't want to say I don't care about the victims of the Minneapolis shooting. Two kids died and many more were injured, and that's horrible. But these are also just two more mass shooting deaths to add to a long list.

We have known the solution for a long time. It's putting common sense restrictions on guns. Making sure that not just anyone can have a weapon to slaughter innocents. This shooter, like many other mass shooters, purchased their guns legally. And most that don't directly purchase guns legally have taken guns from family members in the same home who legally own their guns because we don't require guns actually be locked up out of reach of people who don't own them.

Mass shootings are a constant part of American life now. Most mass shootings aren't committed by trans people but some are going to be. This is just what happens when any population exists!

I found this comic and think it succinctly sums up the issue with transphobes looking to connect people's gender identity to mass shootings.

It seems to me that part of the reason we never fix the problem is because Republicans want it to keep going.

They want the mass slaughter to continue. If a queer person commits a mass killing, they can blame it on them being queer, demonizing all queer people for it. If a person of color does, they can make their narrative about their race. An undocumented immigrant? Expect it to be held up as an example of why we need to deport all migrants. When another straight cis white guy does... It can just be swept under the rug and ignored because they don't have to pretend to care about that. And when you suggest taking guns to prevent the mass shootings, it's "stop politicizing the tragedy." Or they will scream "mental illness" as a distraction while opposing plans to get people actual mental help as socialism. Or they will even spread conspiracy theories about it being a false flag like they did with the Parkland shooting.

Republican policies are based on hate and fear. They allow mass killings to happen because they can use mass killings to keep their base afraid of marginalized communities.

Politically, mass killings are a benefit to Republicans so the killings will be allowed to persist as long as Republicans hold even a single branch of government they can use to obstruct legislation that would stop or reduce the killings.

everyone is really terrified and traumatized by those pictures and videos of thousands of bodies in black covers piled on the ground and how they covered our land with the dead bodies of our youth,

but I can't even imagine the fury, fear, sadness, despair, tension and agony in those families who run around, screaming their children's names and seeking for their lifeless bodies among thousands of black covers. with all my agony, I can't even imagine how terrible they feel.
