I'm bored at work and have too much schoolwork to do, so have some domestic relationship serotonin cuz I need to cope.
John, who is still learning how to be a romantic partner and show care in his own way looking like:
Waking you up with gentle touches first thing in the morning. If you have the same schedule, he'll wake you a few minutes early just to lay in bed with you a few minutes longer.
Brief brushes of fingers or wrists if you pass one another in the hall. Subtle enough, no one would question it.
If your schedules differ in the AM, he'll leave a cup of coffee on a mug warmer for you. He's learned how you like your coffee, nothing grandeous, but he knows it will make you smile.
If your schedules differ in the afternoon or PM, he'll find small workarounds to see you. Whether that's finishing weapons maintenance a little later, lingering just a minute or two by the mess hall, or detouring to briefly pass your work station.
If you work late nights, oftentimes you'll find a snack, whether it's your favorite chips, a protein bar, or sometimes coveted fresh fruit from the mess kitchens. A small sticker or sticky note attached with a smiley face drawn onto it.
If he's deployed and able, he'll send encrypted messages. Wishing you a good morning, sending small updates when able.
After mission debrief, he always finds you. If you're asleep, he quietly slips into bed beside you. Wrapping his arms around your waist with your back against his chest, his nose pressing against your hair to breathe you in until he falls asleep.
1) So everyone thinks Chief doesn’t take off his helmet cause he’s super private, but alas, it is really because he has spent so much time with his face blocked from view of anyone else that he can no longer school his features. This man is super emotive with his face, from making ridiculous faces at people he doesn’t like to just resting happy face. Also, he rolls his eyes CONSTANTLY and you can’t convince me otherwise. (This HC works for Mando!Chief as well).
2) Chief gives off major dad energy, but where like, Din Djarin is somewhat competent, Chief is 100% Chaotic Military Dad. Literally, in a recent trailer, he saved marines, said “Don’t worry, you’re safe now.” And proceeded to drive off a cliff. (My father is career military, if given the opportunity, this is also something he’d do.) Mom asks: “If everyone jumped off a cliff, would you do it too?” “Well, dad jumped first so yea?”
3) Sort of a follow up to 2, Mando!Chief basically adopts any lost child he finds. Dude is basically responsible for bringing in all the foundlings in his Covert.
1. ABSOLUTELY. LOVE THAT. Everyone thinks he's Stern and Stoic under there until the day his helmet gets bashed enough to need repairs?? And then they get to witness him trying and failing to school the snarky looks? 😂🤣
2. YES. YES, AS A MILITARY BRAT, YES. He's got chaos to drag the kids (adults he's gone and adopted mostly) into!! He's also one of those dad's you DONT wanna complain to tho. Saying you're bored means him finding you Some Chores To Do.
3. Hi yes I love and totally agreed with this take??? He's not super great at comforting them, but he's got a big, warm, protective presence, and isn't mad at the kids he finds who just wanna cling to him and cry. He just hoists them into his arms and heads to the ship, ready to apologize again to his Alor for accidentally grabbing another stray. 🥺
I’ve been watching scream lately and… imagine Dove getting chased by a murderer? Or just someone trying to kill them?😳 Dove obviously survives or escapes but.. imagine Johns( and maybe blue teams) reaction to reader running all bloodied hmm…🤔🤔
Also i hope your vacation is going well!❤️
I am NOT a horror fan in the slightest but I do have headcannons about this one. Dove obviously doesn't have anyone obsessed with her to the point of murder and lives in a pretty safe, small town.
POSSIBLE TRIGGER FOR ROBBERY AND INJURY AHEAD!! PLEASE DO NOT READ IF THIS WILL EFFECT YOU!
Say Dove was walking home from the bank or shopping and someone tried to mug her. She's not defenseless as John has taught her self defense but that doesn't stop the assailant from landing a few blows.
Dove manages to get away and runs to her apartment, quickly warping into the Haloverse. Fred is the first to find her and quickly jumps into action, he scoops her sobbing form up and dashes to the nearest medbay. Being sure to com a certain Spartan.
As he's treating her wounds he tries to calm her down and tell him what happened, John bursts into the medical bay still in full armor save for the helmet. His blue eyes filled with fury that would fill even a fellow Spartans heart with terror as he holds Dove as tightly as he can while being careful of her injuries while still allowing Fred to bandage her up.
Dove eventually is able to explain what happened which only angered John further, one thing that is well known within the ranks of the UNSC... is that you do NOT piss a Spartan off or touch their partners....... unless your looking to die. Clearly this thug wanted just that.
"Don't worry, your safe now...." John assured, kissing Doves hair over and over again. Telling her she did well and he was just grateful she was there.
When the rest of Blue Team finds out about what happened, their just as furious as John. Anyone who has the gall to mess with you was sticking their nose in an active hornets nest. After John gets Dove settled, the team graciously stay by her while John finds out who was responsible for hurting his Dove. Blue Team is extremely watchful and protective over the next couple weeks. Each volunteering to stay in the room while you sleep or helping you if for some reason John couldn't be there.
John is pissed, he's BEYOND pissed, while he's impressed you handled yourself so well, he's fuming. Someone dared to attack his girlfriend, HIS Dove! John has never once felt bloodlust when it came to another human but he wanted to make this person regret their very existence and to also assure that they'd never harm someone again. So when the police got an annonymous tip on the whereabouts of this elusive burglar, they arrived to see the thief with their wrists snapped the wrong way, their fingers broken and his face bloodied.
The cops were puzzled as to who could've tracked them down as they'd been unsuccessful in their attempts, but as soon as Dove heard, she knew who'd done it. She softly reprimanded John, telling him that he could've killed that person easily. John knew this and he would've if he didn't have a stronger moral compass. John listened to her scolding and when she was finished, he carefully pulled her into a warm embrace, burying his face in her neck.
"The only reason their not dead is because of you..." John confessed as he pulled away just enough to look into Dove's eyes, "But I won't stand for anyone hurting you... ever."
After that, John made certain that he or a member of Blue Team was with or had open contact with Dove at all times, if all of them were deployed then he had a simple yet intelligent AI that she carried in the form of fake glasses that she wore when she weren't in your home, giving John and and more importantly Dove some peace of mind.
Those are just some of my takes on it, i hope you enjoy! And yes my vacation was very nice ty for asking 😁.
So, John probably knows nothing about anime but since it’s canon that there’s like a fake backstory about him given by the unsc, there’s probably an anime about him out there.
https://youtu.be/NU0NbFDIsbQ
(This ask was inspired by this song)
Lol, well, since meeting Dove, John was soon introduced to anime and has a couple he likes. But he REALLY has to be in the mood for it. Most times, he just finds it annoying. Halo Legends (Much like fanfic of him) would cause him to feel incredibly flustered and weirded out. He doesn't like dwelling on the fact that in Dove's world, he's just a character in a game for enjoyment or competition. It doesn't sit right with him; it makes him feel invalidated, and John being the self-punishing leader he is, would ALSO take it upon himself to feel invalidated for the rest of his Spartans. So best to avoid that at all costs (' ';)
1) Mando!Chief is basically a playground for the foundlings of the covert. Big man is b I g and the children love it. Bonus points for being near a body of water and the man just yeeting children in. Newcomers are so terrified till the children swim back and yell, “again! Again!!”
2) Mando!Chief, despite his big, scary, gruff exterior, is not immune to puppy dog eyes. Cortana and the foundlings utilize this often.
3) Despite the Chaotic Dad energy that Mando!Chief gives off, he is also a tired dad. Can often be found at the bottom of a cuddle pile, as he fell asleep where ever he was and the foundlings decided the big warm man had it right and piled on.
4) Honestly, both Mando!Chief and Master Chief himself just give off huge protector vibes - especially in regards to children. He had his entire childhood stolen from him to be turned into a killing machine, and so he wants to keep as many people safe as he can.
5) in connection to above, he often forgets that he himself is a human. Man has such a savior complex that he often forgets to take care of himself. He’s been shot? Eh, it’ll be fine, he’s had worse.
And uhhhhhh. Yea, I think that’s all I got for now lol
Hi I love these all so much and I Will Cry over them??? 🥺😭💖💕💖💕💖
1. You are COMPLETELY CORRECT. No doubt??? He's an adult that never asks them to stop talking about childish things, always indulges their dreams of flying (and catches them when they fall back down), and he never gets mad when kiddos cling onto his legs or arms or back for a ride around the Covert?? Also hi the image of him tossing kids into the lake like a dad makes me teary-
2. No doubt, and they always do it when they find out he bought sweets 🤣
3. AJFJSJFKSKFJ GOD I LOVE THAT IDEA? He's the dad that wakes up at 5am only to pass out at 12, and all the foundlings decide that his nap perfectly coincides with theirs?? So they just find him around noon and use him as a pillow 😂
4. Okay this one is a Sad Tears moment cause I definitely see it?? I know the games has mentioned "Sociopath Tendencies" but I really don't see it?? I'm sure he's Not Great at comforting people, but he's definitely there to protect them, especially kiddos.
5. MORE SAD TEARS. HOW DARE. But also really true?? On top of forgetting that he's not machine physically, he also forgets it mentally sometimes?? He'll be fighting, injured, and the main thought that keeps popping up until he's dragged away to safety is "I'll have served my purpose, they can replace me". Like he's just a cog in a machine rather than someone others care about for more reasons than protection?? 😭
1) Dad jokes said with the most deadpan, serious expression. You can’t help but wonder if this was done on purpose or accident. You will never know.
2) The man has a beautiful singing voice and I will not be convinced otherwise. Foundlings that cannot sleep are always handed off to Mando!Chief because he’s the only one who can get them to sleep. When he’s away from the covert, it can be a sleepless night for everyone.
3) Big man’s love language is most definitely touch. Mando!Chief is almost always with the foundlings just cause they love hugging him just as much as he does them.
4) Mando!Chief with a baby carrier/papoose. That is all.
I'm late but I am W E E P I N G. These are adorable??? 😭👌🏻💕💖
1. Just,,,,, so much yes for this one. He jokes rarely but when he's got a golden chance he WILL take it, especially on hunts, and it drives everyone up a wall because he just,,,, doesn't make a move to laugh so "did I even actually hear that or am I losing it??"
2. I'm that "I know this, and I love you" meme guy but scratch the I know this cause I LOVE you for coming up w this? He's had so much time alone on hunts to sing and practice, and thogh he hates singing for crowds, he won't deny a fussy little sleepless foundling a lullaby or two. 🥺
3. YES. Similar to my HCs for clone troopers, he's been trapped in armor for so long (his time with Halsey) that he and Blue Team love their sleeping piles and headbutting and obnoxiously leaning on one another. So he'd quietly love getting to be a climbing gym and hug machine for those foundlings?
This was requested by @aot--levi--ttd I hope you enjoy it!
. Likes to read.
I think when he’s not saving the universe from destruction, he likes to read a good book. War strategies being a favorite until you introduced him to something he adores.
. He loves to take candid photos of you.
. Likes to be outdoors.
John’s life is so noisy that I think he appreciates being in nature, will go hiking ANYTIME you ask, or even hint at it. He loves watching a sunrise/sunset with you at a lake or mountain top. The quiet helps him clear his mind and process things.
He quickly fell in love with the moments where you weren’t paying attention, whether it be staring up at the sky or while you’re asleep curled up against him. This man will take candid pictures anytime he gets the chance. When he can’t be with you, he’ll look at his collection of candid photos and smile.
. Tends to get bad headaches.
. Doesn’t like fighting/tension.
This man spends most of his time fighting, so if there were ever a problem between the two of you, he’d want to squash it as soon as possible. He doesn’t like the idea of something coming between the two of you. And if the two of you ever got into an argument, the poor man would be troubled, he would worry things would end, and he can’t even bear to think about that.
Since augmentation, John will occasionally get the worst migraines; you came home one day to find him curled up in bed with the door closed, light off, and curtains drawn. He didn’t want to tell you because he knows you worry about him, but after experiencing your excellent head massage and being treated to ice cream, he’ll come to you when he feels the slightest pull. He loves to relax with his head in your lap while you delicately massage his face and head.
. He loves to watch/help cook.
. Is a total clean freak.
He is not a germaphobe, but he has a rigorous, detailed hygiene routine and likes the space he lives in to be organized. It’s the soldier in him; you have his routine nailed down flat, on given day if the house is a little messy... you know you have until five before he comes through the door, showers, and pokes his head in the kitchen to see if he can help with dinner. So at the very least, you'd like to vacuum for him.
This man, more than most, appreciates the work put into a home-cooked meal; coupled with his insatiable curiosity, it’s not uncommon for him to come into the kitchen and simply watch you. All though if it’s a meal you’ve made before, he’ll ask if he can help prepare it. He thrives off the domestic feeling it provides, and it adds to the sense of security being with you gives him.
. Doesn’t like gore/ horror movies.
Being a Spartan means John sees a lot of horrible things, and as such, he tends to avoid movies with gore or excessive amounts of blood. He enjoys a good thriller, but the first time you both watched a scary movie, he was so rattled it took you an hour and a half to calm him down. He still has difficulty letting you go out at night because of it.
You will never let John near alcohol again for as long as you live; one of the other Spartans talked him into going out for drinks, and the next thing you knew……. Your usually serious, stoic man had been reduced to a pile of giggles. But he quickly became very emotional, his regrets and fears spilling over as the two of you rode home. It upset you to see him in such a state, and all you could do was pat his arm and offer assurance. And he wonders why you don’t let him near the stuff.
. Is a Lightweight and Emotional drunk.
. Is a Sensitive Soul
While most people see John as the unbreakable Master Chief, they can’t seem to grasp that he sometimes can be delicate. For example, losing Sargent Johnson took an enormous toll on him, then Cortana died…. For weeks on end, your Spartan was unresponsive to most people. Only speaking when spoken to or making small noises during conversations. He would come out of the shower with red eyes and try to brush it off like it was nothing, but you’ve been with John long enough to know when he’s suppressing his emotions. Patience is vital when he’s like this, as sooner or later, his dam will break, and he’ll come to you for comfort.
. Likes to be held
John’s little-known secret is that he can be a very affectionate person once he’s well and truly comfortable around someone. And his life as a Spartan has made him crave security, so be prepared for your Spartan sometimes to be a little clingy. If you’ve been busy or he’s been away for long periods, get ready for some serious cuddles once he’s back. John thrives off of positive physical contact and will never admit it….. But there are some days where he wants nothing more than to lay down and be held. At this point, you know him well enough to know when he’s having one of those days; all it takes is for you to walk up behind him and wrap your arms around him for him to melt against you.
. He loves his sleep….
You know the term: Never wake a sleeping bear? Yeah, that saying has a picture of John next to it. This man LOVES his sleep, so you’d better have a damn good reason for interrupting it if you so dare. When the world doesn’t need Master Chief, he’s content to sleep in and snuggle with you.
. Will Totally Mother-hen you.
If you are sick, injured, or just not feeling your best, he’s doing everything in his power to cheer you up/ help you feel better. Have the flu or a cold? He’ll make sure your taking your meds on time and getting enough water. Injured? You’d better not be moving until the doctor clears you, feeling down or depressed? He’ll snuggle you, listen to you, or bring you along on one of his hikes. More than anything, he wants to see you smile and be happy.
. Has Vivid Night Terrors
The first time John woke you up due to a nightmare was terrifying. He was sweating, gasping for breath; his grip on the covers was so tight that his knuckles were white. Cortana had warned you never to touch him while he was like this, or he could accidentally hurt you. So the best you could do was call his name and hope he snapped out of it.
It took you nearly screaming at him to wake him up, and when he did, he was shaking uncontrollably; his chest heaved as he tried to calm himself. You never pry or ask him to talk about it, knowing that if he wants to tell you, he will; his first reaction is to turn towards you to check and see if you are still there. So unless your bladder is bursting or you’re throwing up, please make sure you are there, or he’ll break down all over again. His nightmares usually consist of losing his team or something tragic happened, and he ended up losing you. John is typically very vulnerable and on edge after a nightmare, so be careful what you say and let the man hold you.
I hope you guys enjoyed these! I love sharing my headcanons for Chief with you guys. :D
At the beginning if the human covenant war (think silent storm and oblivion) a young Spartan II couldn't go two feet without being adopted by Marines.
All these men and women who were away from their children, niblings or younger siblings seeing these 15 year old kids who have been "raised" by scientists and drill instructors and instantly adopt them.
21st ODSTs, the black daggers, are the worst about this.
Avery Johnson adopted blue team. They are in his will. He has pictures hung up of them in any place he lives. He brags about them constantky
