how do you get your links to open in tumblr and not in the website?? i keep trying but sometimes it goes to the website sometimes to the app pls help a girl out😔😔

1. copy link of the post you want

2. find out if it goes to the tumblr website or app

if a link is really long (like the one above), it's most likely going to be a browser link

3. clean the link

everything between the last / and the ? should be deleted

How do I make a masterlist on my phone?

Firstly I would like to say it will be really hectic to create it on your phone but somewhat easier if you use the App & web browser simultaneously so that you can keep both windows open on the phone.

Create a draft on your Tumblr app with the text/sequence of the Masterlist by making a list of all the post you have made. (I suggest you do it in the notes app first and then copy+paste it on Tumblr. This way you can switch between the Notes app and Tumblr app to check the Title of your posts.)

This will be your Masterlist just without the links. You can paste it on Tumblr, then save it as a draft and edit the text style, add dividers, change color of text, etc. in the draft itself.

Open this draft in a browser on the web and keep your Tumblr app open.

Now on your Tumblr app you Scroll from your Profile's Latest post onwards — Click on Share → Copy the link of that post → Go to the draft of Masterlist on the web → Add the link to the title

This way when someone opens a link from your Masterlist when they are on the app, they won't be directed towards the web page of that post.

Hope this was not too confusing 😭. I made my entire Masterlist on my laptop by keeping alot of tabs open🥲 You can DM me if you have anymore questions.

Tuesday Tutorial:  How To Make a Masterlist

I have gotten several questions on how to make a masterlist, so here is a super quick tutorial on how do it (I am using my computer to do this!) This is how to make a basic text only masterlist, put you can easily add in image headers or what no.  

1.  Create a new text post.  Name it something clever or not.  My masterlist is called Just The Hiddles Masterlist.  Catchy!

2.  Type out the title of your story/stories.  You can also include summaries if you want.  Your choice.

3.  Go to the story post.  Click on the three dots.

Choose “Copy Link.”

4. Now go back to your text post and highlight what you want to be linked. Click on the little links.

5. Paste your link in the prompt that comes up and hit Done.

6.  Rinse and repeat until all your stories are linked!!  

You can use this to make masterlists for series or really anythings.  And to link masterlist to a masterlist of all masterlists.  I hope this helps!  Please let me know if you have any questions!

HOW TO MAKE A MASTERLIST!

A lot of people have recently asked me how to make a masterlist so I made a ‘tutorial’ to help you guys! I hope it helps!

Step One: Open the text option in the Tumblr menu bar.

Step Two: Type in the title and type in the words you want to connect the link to.

Step Three: Copy the URL you want to use.

Step Four: Double click the words you want to connect the link to.

Step Five: Click the infinity sign thing this what you use to connect the link to the text.

Step Six: Then paste your copied URL into the box that pops up and click done!

Part Seven: You should see the three options below pop up if you did it right, and we all know sometimes things get lost along their way on Tumblr, so to be sure click the open option and see if it takes you to your link!

Hoped this helped, this is the simpliest and easiest way to explain it, because I used to look it up but those videos are with the older version, so yeah, much love and lots of hugs and kisses!

A/N: The most common requested tutorial have been how to make a masterlist. It’s pretty easy, you can’t do anything wrong and this way you can both use it on computer and mobile without having to open Safari automatically. This requires a laptop to create. 

Step 1: 

Masterlists can be done in various ways, some just prefer to have the links while others like to add pictures and rank the stories from new to old along with likes and reblogs. This just shows how to do the linking so you can add names and pictures yourself later if you’d like. 

First you start with opening a text post on your laptop. Text post is the one that has the icon Aa with text below. Press open. 

Step 2:

Now that you have the Tumblr text post open it’s time to give it a title. It’s the first one your readers will see so give it something they will like about. You can simply call it masterlist or be a weird fuck like me that uses capital letters and probably the longest masterlist title to date. Everything is up to you. And with that, you can also give a little description to your masterlist just to make it more personal but this is of course optional. 

Step 3:

Now we’re at the exciting part! This is where you add your stories, one shots, fanfictions, preferences, imagines, scenarios, blurbs smuts etc.. You can categorize it after that but you can also add everything to one large text post. But be aware, you can only have 350 links in one text post, if added more all the links will disappear at once. 

When you have written a boy and also the title of your story, mark the title and a few options will appear. To make sure the title will become a link you need to pick the icon that looks like a crooked 8, the one right after the H. If you want to be even quicker mark the title and press [Ctrl+k] That allows you to insert and copy-paste the link to your story and after you press enter, the title will now be a link. That easy! 

Step 4: 

You continue to do this with all of your writings until you have everything you need. Now you can have fun and add pictures before the boys name, change the fonts and also the sizes of the links in case you don’t want it to fill much. You can add description below or after your links so people can get a summary of what they are about to read, you can add hearts and stars in front of your stories to rate them after notes and you can put them in alphabetic order or after newest to oldest. The rest is up to you. 

When you feel like everything is prepared and ready to go press post! From now on you will continue to add links on this post and when people are asking for your masterlist you can give out the link of the text post! :-)

HOW TO PUT YOUR MASTERLIST IN YOUR DESCRIPTION

Here’s a tutorial for something that I’ve been asked quite a bit. I added photos to make steps super clear. If there is any confusion, please drop me an ask and I’ll figure it out and edit the post accordingly!

1. Make your Masterlist. Create a text post and title it how you would like. If you want you can add some subtitles underneath, but we’ll get to that later.

2. Post the text post.

3. Scroll over the top right corner of the text post, and the corner should animate like it’s folding. Click on the corner and it will take you to your blog with the post and it’s URL. Keep this window open.

4. Type in yourblogname.tumblr.com into a new window. When you get to the front page of your blog, up at the top right should be a button with an eyeball icon that is labelled “Edit Theme.” Click it!

5. On the left side of your screen, the editing panel will open for customization. Go to the section titled “Description.” Write whatever you’d like here, and in the next step we’ll get to adding in your Masterlist.

6. This is where it gets a little tricky. Go back and open the window that has the URL to your text post (the one in step 3)

7. Copy and paste this string of characters into your bio to create the link for your Masterlist:  <a href=post/149093670988/masterlist>MASTERLIST</a>

***PLEASE NOTE: This will not work unless you remove the segment that says post/149093670988 and put in the segment from the URL for YOUR text post and fill that spot in. This is the link for MY text post for MY blog and you will have different numbers, so you need to make that change. If you want the link to be titled something different in your description, instead of “MASTERLIST”, put whatever you want the title to appear as in your description in that part of the character string. Do not leave any spaces, format it EXACTLY like it is above or it will not work.***

8. Save your changes by clicking the button at the top of the customization bar.

9. Open a new window with yourblogname.tumblr.com as the URL. CLICK THE NEW LINK IN YOUR BIO TO MAKE SURE THAT IT WORKS! If it does not, then you might have made an error with the string of characters. Make sure that it follows the exact format that I’ve posted in step 7.

AUTHOR NOTE: Every time I make a change to the description of my blog (even if it doesn’t affect the string of characters), the Masterlist link stops working and becomes normal text in my description instead of a link. Every time you make a description change you have to delete the string of characters and paste it back in again. It’s annoying, but I do not know how to fix it, so just a heads up!

10. To add your fics/writing posts/etc into the Masterlist, you must edit the text post you made in step 1.

This is done by either going to the URL page with your text post (as done in step 3):

Going to the bottom of the text post and clicking the icon that looks like a gear, and selecting edit:

11. This is the step where we attach the link. Nobody likes to see a big ugly complete URL in their Masterlist. There is a way to embed the link within words so that people can click on the words and it takes them to the piece. Usually people use the title of their work, but you can write whatever you’d like for the link to be embedded in.

Highlight the text with your mouse, and the tumblr text editing bar will appear. You want to click the icon that looks like a diagonal infinity symbol.

12. When you click that icon, a bar will appear. This is where you paste the URL of your fic/writing piece/aesthetic/whatever. Post your writing, and use the folding corner method” from step 3 to get the URL of the post. Copy and paste this into the bar.

13. Click “Done”, and save your updated Masterlist. The link from your bio will always update when you update the Masterlist manually, so you don’t need to fiddle with the link in your bio every time you update the post to include a new fic.
