Hi! I'm getting very hooked on Perfect Match, but there's one thing that I'm v curious about. Do they Haydens' act differently based on the personality type? I got Joker, but tbh, I don't see much of that in my Hayden. Thanks for the taking the time to answer! - pixieferry

Thank you @pixieferry and yes, they very much do behave differently from the beginning. Not very major, but subtle and definitely you get to see the differences when you see playthroughs featuring different personality types.

My thoughts on this is that there are 16 whole personality types, but there are four major categories that come into play in their scenes. You'll notice, below each Match type form shown to us, four sub-types written in smaller print.

If you look at any of the Match types, right underneath the type name are four categories:

1. Mysterious/Outgoing: Is this person gregarious and easier to socialize with, or do they take time to open up to you?

2. Sweet/Rebellious: This, to me, forms a significant chunk of their personality because it determines how they will act in a variety of situations.

3. Sincere/Humourous: Will this person lay bare how they feel, or will they use humour to deflect?

4. Logical/Impulsive: Do they act on their gut or do they think things through?

I think we already know that there are differences from the beginning. The sweeter Haydens continue their date with you on a flowered boat, the rebellious ones take you to an warehouse with graffiti that will be converted into an art-gallery-cum-performance-space. The rebellious one imagines a future with the MC as being constantly on the move, while the sweet one likes to think in terms of happy domesticity. The outgoing ones know all the lyrics to John Denver's Country Roads, the mysterious ones have never heard the song. The humourous ones serenade you dramatically at the waterfall with roses, Spanish guitar and a dance, while the sincere ones hold you while they teach you to play guitar. As the story progresses, there are differences but they aren't so apparent, especially when as time goes by the player gets more settled with their version of Hayden and/or begins to prefer other love interests. Not all these differences manage to capture our attention when we're in the thick of something perhaps more sinister. When Cecile catches us escaping by plane, the more rebellious Hayden threatens to burn Eros to the ground while the gentler one attempts to appeal to her...um...'humanity'. Even the way their kinks manifest can differ: rebellious Hayden uses handcuffs, sweet Hayden uses ice cream.

Where do I feel this difference the strongest in PM Book 1? In the scene where Damien tells Hayden and Sloane they're on their own now that they've escaped, at the Berlin house. Diplomat Hayden controls their hurt and tries to see Damien's point of view, while the Rebellious Hayden doesn't spill just the tea, but the entire contents of that goddamned teapot on him:

I do believe however that Abhirio's Dreamer Hayden had an angry reaction instead of a calm one, but for the most part she exhibits most of the gentler characteristics that I am more familiar with).

I originally thought this was a difference between Sweet and Rebellious - except it really is about logic vs impulsiveness. To the Logical Hayden, it makes sense that Damien wouldn't trust or support them when all the facts add up. They may not like it, but they won't fight over it either. The Impulsive Hayden on the other gives vent to their hurt and pushes back aggressively at a situation that is just getting worse and worse for them.

Hayden's (impulse) outburst is, truly, my favourite moment in the entire series because it encapsulates the entire theme for me. Hayden...Steve...Dames...their makers treat them as expendable and not worth respect - and their mistake precisely is that they can't look past what the Matches made of. That they do possess a sense of autonomy and integrity that goes beyond the way they're built. On top of all this, the Matches themselves have to live with the fear that the people they're with may not look past what they're made of either.

Book 2 follows up on the subtle differences between the personalities, most tellingly in how they react to other people and what they do to cope with a situation. When we ask Dames in his diamond scene about Rebellious Hayden, he mentions them showing him a release of his emotions through punching an object. My Hayden, the Scholar, on the other hand helped him by suggesting they work together to make Sloane's favourite dish on one of Dames' more frustrating days with her.

As I've mentioned earlier, they also have their own ways of helping Dames cope with who he is. Humourous Hayden diffuses the situation through humour and pointing out their super strength, Sincere Hayden helps him by sharing with him their own experience and letting him know they're there for him:

The latest - and my favourite - right now, are the divergences in the Tokyo Hayden diamond scene. There are differences on not one but various levels here: rebellious/sweet, humourous/sincere, mysterious/outgoing. Rebellious Hayden takes you to a sumo wrestling match, and Sweet Hayden takes you to a secluded park. Very pretty:
