Ok I finished watching the Mulan movie

I thought she was gonna fall in love with the prince or her hometown friend, but she doesn’t LOLLL. I know Mulan isn’t really the “marry a handsome man” sort of story, but the scenes kinda looks like the chemistry-building beats that normally happens in a romance. It just fizzles out and goes nowhere. 

Honestly the movie kinda reminds me of 300 a bit? The war just happens, and we’re watching stuff roll along. Everyone’s doing fine if it weren’t for the one sneak rat who was being an asshole, and it ends with everyone evacuating and Mulan left alone with only 2 people defending an entire empty city.

They keep insisting that if the city falls then the Rouran's march into the country would be unstoppable (or at least harder to stop). And like... what do you even plan to do with 3 people? :/ 

There’s no magic Zhuge Liang save. The prince promised to bring reinforcements but nothing happens for weeks. Mulan and friends are starving to death. In the end the Rourans come and invade. Mulan and her friend fight, while the third person, a one-armed old man, beat the marching drum. 

And in the end it was suggested that the prince really did come with his reinforcements to save them. I think. Because History Says Mulan Can’t Die. 

Like, the sequence was hazy and faded and intermingled with visions of the dead friends, so like... is it an illusion of hope just before they die? Did the prince really come? Who knows!!! 

Also after reading Weiyang, I get twitchy at the surname Tuoba hahaha... Not in a bad way, though. It’s just like the kind of weird feeling I have when a character in a book/movie has the same name as me or someone I know IRL.

Just watched Matchless Mulan Movie

I think this is a new chinese movie (maybe released on 2019 or early this year). This is of course another version Mulan..haha.

Hmm I honestly watched it without subs because there's no english subs yet. So I just tried to understand it solely from their acting. And also some very basic chinese that I got from watching the Untamed lately, kinda help me understand it a bit..haha.

So the story in this version took place during Mulan's 12 years in the army. I think her partner and their subordinates was captured by the enemy so she tried to help them. After released him and when trying to run away from the enemy lair, some of their subordinates were got attacked by the Hun? (I am not sure which tribes it is). And Mulan tried to help them, however she and some of the subordinates got captured, while her partner (I think he was captain/ general too?) Who were very weak because of torture got away safely with half of the subordinates.

Then the story changes POV to the Huns. This part is actually quite similar with the 2009 version. Which basically there's some internal disturbance between the Huns own clan. The reason? Power. In this version the little bro of the current clan leader plotting something (which since the beginning of the movie I could already guess that he wanted to murdered the current clan leader). Yet the clan's leader daughter somehow got a feeling about something amiss.

Yeah basically in this version, Mulan was being set up into murdering the clan leader of the Huns by another Huns. But how she finally done it? You better watch it.

This version is more straight forward a battle movie than the 2009 version. This is mostly because I don't understand the whole story (because the lacks of subs), but I honestly think this version is made only to show fighting and maybe some costumes design? Because the interaction between Mulan and her partner (which later becoming her Love Interest) is very small. I cannot really captured the emotional relationship between them though.. which is kinda unfortunate.

Well maybe this version is more an action movie, while the 2009 veraion is a tragic drama movie, because the 2009 story really based on the relationship between Mulan and her partner. It really shows her emotions and her love.

Yeah basically all version of Mulan is interesting. This version is more about action, so maybe you can try to watch it if you want to see a fighting scenes. However if you craved drama and tragedy...better watched the 2009 version...hahaha
