i was just waiting to find out who will would be. T.T (says the person who finally got to see the movie this year bc parent was one of the boycotters.) also heard the writers’ strike had something to do with it, too. like - just a shitty time all around for the movies, even though it had PHENOMENAL casting.

Because I mean, there were problems with the film itself. Everything outside it was a major factor. But the heavy exposition and how it didn’t line up correctly sequentially were also major issues. But also this article is great for this line because I feel it SO HARD:

“The failure of this film means that we'll never get a film of The Amber Spyglass. We'll never get to see the film where Nicole Kidman murders God. And for that reason alone, I really wish that The Golden Compass had done better.”

Me too, dude, me too.

this should be a no-brainer. kinda is analogous to jerk w/ a heart of gold, but i thought it was worthy of its own post. because while zee gives off this air of confidence and resolve, he’s struggling with many insecurities and fears not being enough: good enough, smart enough, man enough, etc. there’s also his divorce which left a deep mark on him and the overarching effect that bev’s death had on him.

@mathematicpoetry gets a starter

The heavy toe of Ben’s boot disrupts a pile of sand -- sending it arcing over the ‘path’ in front of him. He does not much care for this planet. In truth, he does not much care for anything, but that is, of course, the galaxy’s fault and not his own. The very idea that his mindset might be the problem has never once been considered, despite his uncle’s stubborn insistence upon bringing it up at every possible opportunity. Ben has no doubt that this very trip has been designed as a twisted sort of punishment. Luke is on an entirely different plane insofar as thought and philosophy are concerned, and they tend to clash more often than not.  He resents his parents for sending him to Luke. He surely could master the Force on his own much more quickly than he is currently. Luke’s pace is entirely without haste or priority -- heavily featuring exercises rather than anything challenging.                 Ben has not even been allowed to carry a saber on this trip.                                                       Disgusting, really.                                                                                He’s not a child anymore. A rock comes tumbling past his foot, kicked by someone who must, no doubt, be following him and he turns on his heel, brown robes billowing, hand on his blaster as he tugs it from his belt with dangerous haste, only to find himself facing a man who’s even older than his dreaded uncle ...                         ... and foolishly unarmed, at that.             “Whatever it is that you’re selling, I don’t care.” Almost every scavenger on this planet seems to be pushing something. Ben has no patience for any of it.                                      Low and dirty outer-planet scum.
