The implications behind this... because we know Estranged is a song about the loss in Axl's life as result of unrequited love, like things back at home in Lafayette, Erin, and when he performed it, eventually Stephanie and Dylan came to his mind. I believe it reminded him of Izzy leaving, too, and at that point it hurt too much to do the song, because that's what is implied when you watch their documentary Guns N' Roses: The Making of Estranged, where Axl says, "Every situation in my life that relates to any of the words in the song are going through my head in that particular time." And a few moments later, we have Matt pointing out that they performed Estranged back when Izzy was in the band and kind of stopped doing it for a while after he left.
