The Goffard family

Little fan take on their Canadian French Old Money heritage:

Said to have origins as old as the 12th century, the Goffards are a family of Ardennais nobles that took to the New World in the 17th century. Arriving at New France (Quebec) as part of the Carignan-Salières Regiment where the men of the family had high ranks as officers.

In the 1630s, as the poverty of French Canadian nobility grew, the Goffard family decided to marry one of their sons to a commerce enobled family in the fur trade. That family wanted access to the Goffard seigneuries and the Goffards wanted access to the wealth and trade of the family they married.

After marrying into the fur trade the Goffards made it their own, becoming an established name.

When the 1830s hit, most of the French nobility in Canada had lost status but the Goffards assured the survival of their name and power due to their continuous focus on trading and consistent marriages to enobled traders, and now, the newly risen Bourgeoisie.

In the late 19th century, the family was recognized by the British, being given the title of Knight (Sir).

Because of their first marriage to an enobled family in the 1630s, they have the title of Baron and because of their recognition by the British they possess the title of Sir.

The Goffards are a French noble family with origins in the 12th century, somewhere in Ardennes, their origins are mixed, having blood that comes from western Germany, Belgium and eastern France, gathered by marriages long before taking to the American lands.

They had/have the tradition of marrying their sons instead of daughters to the burguoise and enobled trading families to assure the name's survival into every marriage and the trade – hence why so many various trades throughout time had the name Goffard in them.

Their wealth grew into giant proportions and now their main trade is luxury items.

Frederick Auguste Goffard was the name I picked for Mr. Goffard Sr.

Frederick never keeps any of the names of the mothers, all his children only keep his name.

The mother of Derek was a Coptic woman from Egypt named Nut, that went to live in Canada, where Frederick met her. Derek has her eye shape and smile/lips, his eyes are a mix of her green eyes and his father's icy blue eye color.

Nut did stay a while in Derek's life, maybe until he was around 6, taught him her language, enough that he can understand it, speak it but not write or read it, taught him a lot about traditions and folklore of her land, including the adoration of scorpions and how they're important as feminine progenitors and protectors, almost like mothers.

Derek visited Cairo once with mom and dad but never again, his dad doesn't like him going there. He obviously never met his mother's side of the family, as his dad always had his mother in a tight hold.

Nut "disappeared" when Derek was around 6, after that his dad's physical (beating) and psychological abuse started.

Derek wasn't allowed to cry when they buried his mother and the only time he did, his dad punished him, so now he can't do it (only when he's really really really sad and when he's certain there's nobody around). He keeps a photo of her secretly without his dad's knowledge, it's his most precious item.
