Drawing/painting for a friend with acrylics, metallics, and two types of sealant/varnish. Bonus some process pics; drawing, painting, finishings. Unfortunately with the scan the glossy varnish and silvery pear metallics disappear.  Makes the water look flat instead of rippled. The diluted gold on the fins nearly gets lost too but you can see it all in the angled shot better, anyways. It was super fun to play with so many finishes for effects. I haven’t done an acrylic painting in forever and this was just a nice fun and simple piece for a fantastic person I know.

I hope people don't mind too much my continued adventures with Liquitex sealant.

After the second layer of Matte Medium dried, I could only scrape paint with my thumbnail if I applied a pretty reasonable amount of pressure.  I could scratch lightly against the surface repeatedly without any visible defect.  I'd say 2 layers of Matte Medium held up easily better than the 5 layers of MSC I used as a final coat on the hooves that chipped.  I expect I'll use at least 4 layers when I seal any projects I intend to keep, but I decided to stop the experiment there since I'd already achieved pretty desirable results.

The surface had a bit of a shiny sheen to it rather than being entirely matte, so it'll be something to keep in mind for some applications.  The texture is, as has been reported by Andreja and others, more rough and toothy than MSC, but it's not actually unpleasant, and nothing I'd personally find problematic - especially, again, for certain fantasy-part applications.

I went ahead and put a layer of the Matte Varnish on over everything, as per Andreja's method.  It's still drying, so nothing to say on that yet, but that it went on really nicely.  It didn't have to be diluted to go smoothly through the airbrush, and it didn't get watery or splatter like the Matte Medium did for me. (Suspect I've been diluting it too much; will adjust in the future.)
