holy shit.... you might have cracked it!
“...the hopelessly romantic notion that two people can meet and instantly fall in love, an escape story where love is the highest law and conquers all against the odds. Characters like Bonnie and Clyde always appealed to me as a teenager - couples so intoxicated with one another that they fear nothing in the pursuit of the realization of each other, actions fueled by blind unconditional love.” ― Matthew Healy
//Welcome to New York// Find me cause I’ll never find you (1)
Jade never liked being alone, as much as she enjoyed it when she was younger; when it meant being in her room listening to music and playing videogames, reading books or anything else that didn't involve people. But now, she wasn't a teenager anymore and she was in the road, running away from home.
It crossed her mind multiple times, and she gave it a lot of thought, she knew the consequences of her actions, but still, the lonely feeling lingering her soul couldn't make her put a smile on her face. It hurt more the thought of leaving her friends behind than leaving her family, her mother and father didn't try to stop her, guessing they would never try to find her.
Jade's path leaned on New York, where her late grandmother lived, in a small apartment in the city that was left for her, luckily. The idea was for the small flat to be for a good use in case she wanted to study in the Big Apple, but her grandmother might be screaming in her grave as her wish wasn't granted, and instead, Jade was using the place as a hideout.
It was hard, really hard, physical and mentally hard; she was admitted in Medical School, but she didn't have time for anything and the good grades she once had weren't enough, the hardships were getting into her as it was almost impossible to stop one second and play her guitar for a bit, which was causing her a troublesome feeling in her chest. So when she decided to drop out of school and follow a music career, her parents screamed to the sky and put an endless fight with her, something she couldn't bare too long. But she knew, deep in the back of her head, that running away was also for a different reason.
It was October, almost a month of loneliness, when she found a pamphlet of a pub looking for a musician who could play for a few hours and for a little amount of money, and she was lucky to be that musician who would play for a bad pay. It was autumn and a freezing air had her outside 'The Two Cups', the place she was supposed to play in. Jade was dead nervous to perform that night; sure, no one knew her and if she was terrible, everyone would forget by the end of the night.
-Oh, are you Jade? - A man's voice ask, her body shivered because of the cold or because she was caught backing out. She turned around to find a tall black man around her age smiling. She swallowed saliva before nodding and gestured a crooked smile.-Then, please come in.-The guy said in a cheerful way that turned her stomach upside down.
Her legs gave in and followed him inside, feeling warm after standing for too long outside. The place was actually nice considering the street it was placed, it had an old air yet a little bit of innovation in it, near the entrance, which was a big wooden door, the bar had the same concept and a few people were chatting and drinking, faces almost blurry because of the dim lights. There were tables and a few stairs to go to the dance floor, and there...- That's the scenario. - said the man who Jade had been following, pointing to where she kept her eyes for a long time.- Everything's ready... oh, my name is Keith, by the way.- he said, smiling before jumping into the scenario. He gestured with his hands for Jade to follow him. Thinking a thousand times about it, performing in front of a lot of people wasn't something Jade hasn't done before, back in the day, she used to do it all the time, but that felt like ages ago, and the only thing her mind could made out of the situation was a racking nervous feeling in her stomach as Keith presented her to the small amount of people in the pub.
-Good night everyone, tonight we have a special guest, please give her a round of applauses.- said Keith, and every single person in the place did as he said, applauding to Jade as she walked to the stool, holding her black and old Fender Squire by the mast, carefully, as she never had touched it before. Her hand and ears worked together as she skillfully tuned the instrument, finding a familiar feeling of something she used to do all the time, a smile curving her lips at the thought and taking a sit in the stool.
-Hi, my name is Jade and the first song is 'A Change of Heart' by the 1975. - She said surprised at herself at how smooth her voice came out, without shaking or breaking, everyone cheering again, building confidence for her.
And when she starts singing, every single soul in the place gets quiet to listen carefully as her voice rings in the air.
Are we awake? Am I too old to be this stoned? Was it my breast from the start? They played a part.
For goodness sake I wasn't told you be this cold Now is my time to depart I just had a change of heart.
I'll quote on the road like a twat to wind my way out of the city Finding a boy who is equally pretty won't be hard Oh, I just had a change of heart
Her eyes are closed during the instrumental break, her fingers moving in the strings in swift motion. Her heart beating fast in her chest, her thoughts in somewhere else as the song was meaningful to for her; she felt her eyes sting in realization of how moving on felt like, from a broken family or a broken heart, she just needed a change of it.
You smashed the glass into pieces and that's around the time I left and you were coming across as clever and lit the wrong end of your cigarette
You said I'm full of diseases your eyes were full of regret Then you took a picture of your salad Then put in on the Internet.
Then he said "I been so worry about you lately, you look shitty and you smell a bit. You're mad thinking you could ever save me not looking like that."
You used to have a face straight out of a magazine now you just look like anyone I just had a change of heart I feel as though I was deceived I never found love in the city I just sat in self-pity and cried in the car Oh, I just had a change of heart
Then he said "I've been so worried 'bout you lately you were fit but you're losing it you played a part, this is how it starts" Oh I just had a change of heart
I just had a change of heart I just had a change of heart
When Jade ended the song, her eyes opened to find startled expressions in everyone faces, followed by euphoric cheering and applauses, people encouraging her to sing another song. Her head turns to the side, finding Keith with a big smile and two thumbs up in the air for her. For that brief moment, a little bit of weight fell from her shoulders, making all the negative emotions away, as only enjoyment and happiness were present to her. She smiled, finally feeling a warmth welcome to New York.
//Sorry for the absence of Matty. This was just a short prologue. Please keep reading// Also, I changed the lyrics of the song to be from a girls "perspective", I know, I've committed a sin, forgive me.
