This short novel is about the lives of some upper and middle class ladies living in a small, humble English town named Cranford, in which everyone knows each other. The narrator narrates her several visits to the town, and, when away, the happenings written in letters sent to her, throughout the years. The narratives are in the style of sketches, revolving around manners and traditional town customs, or related to the memories about the lives of the Cranford spinsters, especially the Jenkyns sisters. Domestic town events, tea invitations, eventless tea parties, female friendships, gossips, some bitter some sweet memories are what this novel is about up to the point I have read so far. I liked few things about the novel, which I will mention in my review; however, honestly, this novel is not exactly like what I expected, I am still hopeful about the rest though. I'll most probably finish within two or three days. ~ «“Elegant economy!” How naturally one falls back into the phraseology of Cranford!
