If there is a single good thing about Derision, it's that we won't get any more salt fics where Kim (& Nino) are "Marinette's only allies at school" and Max (& Alya) are Lila's attack dogs.

You know one salt thing that’s always bothered me?

How Max in ‘Gamer’ is reduced to a bad little misogynist for being upset that Marinette beat him for the spot. Like yes, you could argue that he was a sore loser - although I’ll argue that he was understandably upset at being beaten at his deep passion by someone who he didn’t even know liked it in the first place - but why are salters so keen to call him an evil sexist? He was only upset at Marinette because she beat him out of the spot, whereas Adrien was competing to play with him. If the roles were reversed and Marinette had become his partner, then Adrien had come and (however inadvertently) beaten Max out of the spot without even a smidgen of prior interest? He’d have targeted Adrien instead.

Could you read a little misogyny into him expecting Marinette to fail? Perhaps, but you’d have to remember that he’s known her - at least in passing - for years now, and she’s never once shown any outward sign of being into video games, whereas he’s likely known everyone else’s stances on video games and Adrien is a newcomer (as is Alya). He’s been shown to at least be good friends with Kim and maybe Alix, and he likely knows every other classmate a little better than Marinette because they weren’t the ones being blatantly targeted by Chloé like Marinette was. So yes, while he may have been a little patronising when assuming that she didn’t know how to play, he didn’t once accuse her of cheating and imply that she was any lesser for being a girl. He didn’t demand a rematch and whine that a girl shouldn’t have been able to beat him. He wasn’t mad at Marinette because “how dare a girl beat me?” He was mad at Marinette because she was the outlier in his data of his classmates, the one who won his spot from him, and he was naturally upset that something he’d worked so hard for had been taken from him.

And you know what he did? He congratulated Marinette like a good sport and then walked away to deal with his shit by himself instead of lashing out at Marinette like a sore loser. And the only reason he became destructive and targeted Marinette was because he was akumatised, but I don’t see any other akumas being blamed for targeting a certain person they were mad at prior to being akumatised. Apart from Lila but, well...she’s Lila.

And when you pair this with salters claiming that it’s so exaggerated that Félix would force himself on Marinette and it’s just there for the writers to make white guy Adrien look good...yeah, I’m not sure I like the implications. It’s been bugging me for a while but I couldn’t quite figure out how to word it until now.

Max sugar? He thought that the class was just indulging Lila and her lies and is shocked when he hears that several classmates are mad at Marinette over a Lila lie?

"Are.... are you guys that fucking stupid?!" Max yells angrily as he stares at the class, minus Nathaniel who was with Marc and either way he was fine with him and Mari.

"What's the matter bu-" Kim says before jumping as Max screams.

"SHE'S A FUCKING LIAR! I THOUGHT YOU GUYS WERE JUST INDULGING HER, BUT NO! YOU GUYS REALLY ARE THAT DUMB!" Max yells pointing at Lila.

Everyone blinks, "wait... she's lying," Alya says weakly.

Max groans, "I can't do this no more. Me, Nathaniel and Marinette are just so done. We're switching classes," he grabs his things and storms off.

Alya blinks and the rest of the class turn to look at Lila who became quiet.
