Thank you unc generalluSon you said it well that's how I saw something once upon a time where someone said I don't know why people are complaining about Kim in derision the episode is about Mari and Chloe like I don't know if you need to know this dawg but the moment you have to assasinate your characters to tell a story then you've failed as a writer also funny enough Chloe is the least affected person ion this episode also the episode is dogshit as it contradicts itself a lot lol.

Derision was just so weird. Even extremely sugar-learning people I know on the show try to ignore as much of it as possible. Actually discussing it with them makes them uncomfortable. Disassociation only takes you so far.

Idk if you're still taking requests for mlb episodes to review but if you are I think Derision should be added to the list if it isnt already on there

I have never seen an episode retcon so much prior events before and for such a disgusting reason like trying to justify literal stalking

This is one of the worst regarded episodes of the entire series, isn't it? It's closer to ill planned retcons and character assassinations trying to masquerade as an episode. The writers sacrificed the characters of Kim and Chloe as well as portraying Chat Noir as someone willing to cataclysm an akuma victim for hurting Marinette's feelings. Why? To try and blame every single one of Marinette's stalking and creepy behaviours on Chloe because "It's all Chloe's fault" while refusing to hold Marinette accountable for any of her actions. Derision only exists because the writers wanted the fans to shut the fuck up about Marinette's shitty behaviour that they refuse to acknowledge as shitty, which hilariously had the opposite effect.

Also, wasn't it stated in S1 Darkblade that Kim is afraid of spiders? Sure it was a single line but the writers should've thought about it before making him pull a "prank" with live spiders involved. Plus, Marinette had been to the pool before! Multiple times!

Side note: It's taking me a while to sit down and watch the episodes since my engagement and interest in the show has been waning for over a week, it doesn't mean I'm ending this series, it'll just take a bit more time for me to post more live notes than I anticipated. I'll still be posting mlb related things, but be warned that there'll be some time between live note entries.

I disagree that the best solution is just for them to announce Derison was a mistake and isn't canon, out of respect of all the people who worked on the episode. It’s better to try to explain away the inconsistency about Mylene’s mum by saying it’s due to Marinette being an unreliable narrator. They’re never going to un-canonise Derison and you know that.

I didn't say they would do it. I said it was the best way.

Episodes do get pulled for various reasons. The people who worked on it got paid. It's 2yrs in the past at this point. Bury it. There sre other contradictions and problems with the episode too. It is a mess, it belittles PTSD sufferers, and contributes nothing.

It's so crazy that derision is contradictory that even the most sensible things about that episode contradict themselves like Chloe being worse could have been a case of she knew there was a limit not to pass because of Adrien but then you remember that in origins she put gum on Marinette's seat because of Adrien or she tried to take a picture besides Adrien by locking Juleka in the bathroom not trying to say Adrien enabled her but still or Marinette is a case of dissociative trauma like I'm pretty sure that in Syren she set Kim and ondine up in that same pool.

Like this episode couldn't have been so the most obvious back at critics episode if only the writers put as much energy as building other storylines or building better characters arcs instead of answering critics

There's a reason why I say 'Derision isn't canon'. It contradicts too many things for too many characters. You lose nothing by removing it from canon.

Derision's myriad of issues aside, it would have kind of worked were it used to say something about Marinette's relationship with Cat Noir. Kim and CN are basically the same guy in slightly different fonts personality-wise, so that episode would've established that Marinette has a type.

You know another thing about derision that makes it unnecessary is that ( never thought I would say this cause it sounds like I'm defending the writers) the fact that even though Marinette's stalking is sometimes played as comic relief I could also argue that a share amount of times it's shown as a flaw take for instance an episode which makes derision not make sense which is animaestro after Marinette tried to make Kagami look bad she apologizes and also Marinette has more lovers than haters in the fandom so even though some fans can be harsh at her because of that behavior it's a fair minority so why drop the episode because of the complaints cause till date I headcanon that they only dropped it cause some fans were complaining about her behavior.

It feels that way.

You know I don't know who to feel sorry for more in derision Chloe or Kim because in Kim's case a lot of the fandom didn't care about him but now the episode made a lot of people hate him or Chloe because now that episode has convinced people she's beyond redemption.

Although that episode assassinated a lot of characters but these two characters are what the episode caused a lot of issue for.

Ehn, Kim's immune to anything. He's still flying his with his doormat girlfriend Ondine. God I hope she wises up soon. She's like his mommy not his girlfriend.
