Character Creation Tag

I was tagged by @thatfizzyyyy, and I will pick Max.

1) What was the first element of your OC that you remember considering (name, appearance, backstory, etc.)?

Uh, I knew I wanted him to have purple hair.

2) Did you design them with any other characters/OCs from their universe in mind?

Yes. As soon as he popped up, Caelius popped up as well.

3) How did you choose their name?

It literally popped in my mind along with how they looked and their special abilities.

4) In developing their backstory, what elements of the world that they live in played the most influential parts?

Max is majia, a person who can manipulate magic. I knew I wanted him to do so, and have a special connection with creating things. Magic is considered forbidden in some parts of the world in which he lives, and he unfortunately lives in a kingdom that has outlawed all forms of magic.

5) Is there any significance behind their hair color?

Purple is my favorite color. I know everybody and their brother has an OC with purple hair, but I have never had a character with purple hair. It is not dyed, for him. All people who retain their connection with majia (the magic force that allows people to perform spells), even if they do not practice it (as in, they do not try to restrict the flow of majia in their family line), have unnatural hair colors, but the link has not been established yet.

6) Is there any significance behind their eye color?

It is brown. I just wanted a warm and inviting color.

7) Is there any significance behind their height?

Max is a whole whopping 5′7″, the same as his twin sister. He was born a she, and his height doesn’t change when he changes back and forth between man and woman.

8) What (if anything) do you relate to within their character/story?

Uh...not really. Some elements of persecution and oppression are within the story, and as a latina person, that’s a big deal right now for me, but he experiences it because he can control magic.  

9) Are they based off of you, in some way?

No.

10) Did you know what the OC’s sexuality would be at the time of their creation?

Yep. He gay AF. And when he turns into a she, she lesbian AF. 

11) What have you found to be most difficult about creating art for your OC (any form of art: writing, drawing, edits, etc.)?

I haven’t drawn any yet. I am still building his wardrobe in my head. I want Max’s clothing to be all about comfort, but also utility. He is a gardener, after all.

12) How far past the canon events that take place in their world have you extended their story, if at all?

He’s got somewhat of a backstory. His story continues past this current plot, so unfortunately this will be a two parter. Ugh.

13) If you had to narrow it down to 2 things that you MUST keep in mind while working with your OC, what would those things be?

He can’t help his attraction to his enemy, Caelius, and he will not kill anyone if he can help it.

14) What is something about your OC that can make you laugh?

When he gets irritated, its kind of funny. But most people he encounters do not feel like he will give as good as he gets, and when he outsmarts/outwits/outsasses them, its gold.

15) What is something about your OC that can make you cry?

When he dies WHAT WHAT I DIDNT SAY THAT

16) Is there some element you regret adding to your OC or their story?

None.

17) What is the most recent thing you’ve discovered about your OC?

He’s stronger than even I thought.

18) What is your favorite fact about your OC?

He really loves gardening. He’s a spy against the crown, and his job is basically to seduce the prince to learn his secrets, and he’d really rather be putting around in a garden, growing corns and squashes and shit.
