Thinking about playing the Pokemon TCG. Been checking out the game meta and etc right now and to be honest, I feel a bit disheartened about getting into it now. I wanted to be a bit competitive (at least local tounaments/events), but the TCG meta seems really unhealthy right now. Like 50% of meta is a Dragapult deck?
So if I go to locals, will I be against a lot of Dragapult? I just find that not very fun/stale, like going to fighting game locals and a bunch of people are playing the same character. (Losing is fine and that's not what I'm talking about. People will want to try and do well, so they are likely picking Dragapult, and it will appear often most likely. Just because it's not Internationals doesn't mean people would play a weaker deck for example, they'd come in swinging with it. Like when I was in Tekken locals or at majors - people character hop or use cheese-y shit because they can, and it works really well up to a point without trying much.)
Plus I am sad that I can't just make decks off pokemon I like. I know obviously not all cards work together / moves vary / don't have an engine maybe that works together, but. My partner, he really wanted to play / have pokemon he likes in his deck, and meta doesn't have anything he likes really. I got lucky with Rocket's Honchkrow since that's a fave of mine.
Sorry for the dump. Just wondering if anyone has any thoughts or notes on this, as what I'm seeing health and mechanic-wise is making me wary / unsure about getting into the TCG right now, tbh.
