You're POV
I close my eyes as I feel the air hit my face, stirring my hair and making me feel completely free for the first time as long as I can remember. My smile grows listening to the song on the radio and a child's voice singing it next to me.
Georgia: But she caught me on the counter.- I hear how she sings and I open my eyes seeing her with a big smile.
Austin: It wasn't me.- he answers happily.
Georgia: Saw me bangin' on the sofa.- continues the song.
Y/n/Austin: It wasn't me.- I sing, adding to the little dwarf.
Georgia: I even had her in the shower.- sings turning to see us.
Y/n/Austin: It wasn't me.- we sing again with smiles.
Georgia: She even caught me on camera.- she sings looking at us over her shoulder.
Y/n/Austin: It was..- we started to sing, but the radio turned off and we stopped singing.
Georgia: Hey.- she complains to Ginny, who is the one that is driving for now.
Ginny: Sorry, but do you think this is a suitable song for a 9-year-old boy?- she asks sarcastically and I roll my eyes in annoyance.
Georgia: Come on now, he doesn't even understand a single word.- she answers painting her toenails. -Honey, what's this song about?- she asks the boy on my left side.
Austin: To do it in the bathroom, record it and lie so you don't get caught.- he answers and I let out a loud laugh.
Georgia: Keep playing Harry Potter, honey.- she tells the youngest amused.
Y/n: Here, dwarf.- I say to my stepbrother, offering him my phone with the previously mentioned game and receiving a euphoric thank you from him.
I hear how Ginny begins to complain to her mother about her clothes, so I roll my eyes tired for the same thing and disconnect looking at the landscape so i don't have to listen to Virginia complaining.
I guess it's time to introduce myself, right? My name is Y/n Drexel and I am 16 years old. I am Georgia's stepdaughter and stepsister to both Austin and Ginny. Although the latter hates me or at least does not tolerate me at all.
My father was Kenny Drexel, or if you could call him that; since he was a monster and I'm glad he's dead. That man abused me since I can remember, my mother rejected me because I wasn't perfect like my older brother, so I was always with him and I couldn't get away from him for more than two days.
When my father met Georgia about a year ago, it was like a cool breeze came into the house and made my life a little brighter. She has always treated me like her own daughter and when she had the chance, she legally adopted me as her daughter.
When she discovered what my father did to me, she took care of me and protected me even more if that was possible. She promised me that she would take care of him, she assured me that she would protect me and make sure that I was safe. And she has fulfilled it.
My father died a month after that conversation, the mere news lifted a weight off my shoulders and I spent the whole day crying. But I didn't cry because of pain or sorrow, I cried because I was finally be free from him.
Which was a very good thing for me, because at the funeral everyone believed that the loss of my father hurt me and I had a more credible pass because of my tears.
The only good thing my father has done is put on his will that I inherit half of his entire estate, while leaving the other half to Georgia. The best thing?? He didn't leave anything, ANYTHING to my brother and mother. That's what I'm most happy about.
Now we are moving to another city, far from where I have lived and grown up all my life. Away from all my bad memories. Far from my memories of HIM.
I would start a new life, with Georgia as my mother and Austin and Ginny as my brother and sister. Although Ginny didn't like my presence, nor the moving plan, much less the idea of starting over in another place.
I am a natural blonde with slightly darker parts, I have blue-green eyes, outlined eyebrows, a straight nose and thin but full lips. I measure around 1.74 cm and my body has a slim complexion, tending to sporty.
I am a very active person, I do sports practically every day and that makes me have a slightly myscled body, especially in the abdominal area. I am bisexual, but I have some insecurity towards men and I find it difficult to trust one for obvious reasons.
My physical appearance is somewhat similar to Georgia's, so we look alike visually and people think we are biological mother and daughter; or sisters. Something that raises her ego a lot and to tell the truth, that amuses me a lot.
I watch as we pull up at a gas station, so I jump out of the back of the convertible and stretch with a little groan; feeling my bones crack.
Georgia: I'm going to go in for something to eat.- she informs us getting out of the car.
Y/n: Can you buy me a Cola and some Doritos? - I ask her with a small pout.
Georgia: Of course I do.- she answers with a small laugh. -Do any of you want something?- she asks the other two.
Austin: I want some twizzlers.- he responds excitedly and his sister shakes her head.
Georgia: Fill up the tank, please.- she asks us and walks into the gas station store.
Ginny starts to fill up the gas tank while I lean against the trunk and push my sunglasses up on my head. She was wearing a comfortable outfit for the trip, short jeans, a black american eaglel t-shirt and white nikes.
Y/n: Excited about the new High School? - I ask my stepsister.
Ginny: Why would I be?- she growls with the gasoline hose in her hand. -Soon she will find someone else, she will get married and we will have to move again when they break up.- she says exasperated and begins to pour gasoline into the car.
Y/n: Don't look at it from that side.- I turned my face towards her. -Think of it as a new beginning, where maybe you can fit in and have friends.- I try to encourage her and help her see the good side of this.
Ginny: I don't think anything is going to change this time.- she denies confidently.
Y/n: I think it will, I feel that something good it's gonna happen and that we will have fun.- I assure her with a small smile.
She just denies it and continues with the gasoline. I turn my eyes forward, seeing a police car pass in front of us and I see how he looks at us for a few seconds.
Today is our first day of high school, I'm not completely excited and I'm not completely disgusted about going either. It will be something new and for the first time, no one will know who my father is and the companies or money we have.
I decide to wear something simple, but at the same time stylish. I throw on a white short-sleeved T-shirt that hits just below my belly button, along with ripped-knee jeans, tall black vans, and a leather jacket.
I make sure that my hair looks good and that my makeup is completely natural and imperceptible. My straight hair has a few soft little waves, which keep it from looking too straight.
I put my pencil case along with a notebook in the backpack, my subject books along with a couple of extra things and close it. My backpack is a simple dark navy blue with a couple of patches on it. I pick up the phone and with the backpack on my shoulder I go down to the kitchen.
Georgia: Good morning, peach.- she greets me happily as soon as she sees me appear.
Y/n: Good morning.- I greeted happy, sitting on the bench and dropping the backpack on the ground.
Georgia: Your car has already arrived, so if you could take Ginny you would do me a huge favor and that way all I have to do is take Austin to his school. - she asks me, leaving a plate of waffles with fruit and cream in front of me.
Y/n: Sure.- I answer starting to eat.
Austin: Good morning.- He yells excitedly running into the kitchen.
Y/n: Good morning, young wizard.- I laugh at his emotion. -Ready for the first day?- I ask and help him sit on the bench next to me.
Austin: Yes, but I'm nervous and I want to have friends.- he answers with a bit of insecurity.
Y/n: Don't worry, you have magic on your side and Muggles are blind.- I whisper to him as if it were a secret and he laughs amused.
We have breakfast talking about the plans for the day, so that Georgia knows our plans and so she can contact us more easily. We finish eating breakfast and Ginny walks into the kitchen.
Y/n: Take anything, because we don't have time and we'll be late.- I tell her putting my plate in the dishwasher.
Ginny: You are taking me?- she asks with a growl.
Y/n: Either I take you or you walk.- I say picking up my backpack from the ground. -It's up to you.- I say leaving Austin a kiss on the head, a hug to Georgia as a farewell and I leave the kitchen.
I leave the house, seeing my car parked in the driveway next to Georgia's and smile with delight. My car is a gray-blue Jeep Renegade, a 16th birthday present from Georgia and my father, although it was clearly more from my now mother.
I get in the car, tossing my backpack to the back, and start it up. I buckle up, watching the brunette leave the house and walk to my car. Once she gets in the car and puts on her seatbelt on, I start the drive towards the high school.
When we get to the school I park in the front row, turning off the car and turning to face my sister.
Y/n: Before you enter.- I tell her taking off my belt. -Are you sure you want to go in with those clothes and not with something else? - I ask a little insecure.
Ginny: What's wrong with my clothes?- she asks with a frown and crossing her arms.
Y/n: It's very simple and nothing favorable.- I answer with a grimace.
Ginny: And?- ask defensively. -Just don't talk to me at school and act like we are strangers. –she tells me and with her bag in hand she gets out of the car.
I sigh, shaking my head and grabbing my backpack from the back seats. I get out of the car, blocking it and feeling the eyes on me. I straighten my back and with all the security of my body, I start walking towards the front door ignoring everyone.
As soon as I walk through the doors of the institute, I see the hallway in different colors and hormonal teenagers on each side. I take the paper with my schedule and locker out of the small pocket of my backpack; and I start walking towards my locker.
XY: Hey.- A guy with slightly long hair greets me, standing next to me and leaning on the locker next to mine.
Y/n: Hey? - I greeted somewhat insecurely and weirded out.
Marcus: My name is Marcus.- He introduces himself stretching out his hand. -You've moved into the house across from mine, haven't you?- he asks me after I shake his hand.
Y/n: I guess? - I ask, putting some books in the locker.
Marcus: Your mother stole my pot.- she tells me and I laugh with amusement.
Y/n: And what do you want me to do with that information? - I ask him with a smile, raising an eyebrow and staring at him.
Marcus: Nothing, it was just to know if you knew something.- he comments and I laugh.
Y/n: Well, I didn't know. But neither is something that surprises me.- I comment with a smile. -Do you still have pot? - I ask interested and closing the locker.
Marcus: Yes, why?- he asks confused, but with a croked smile on his face.
Y/n: In case you would give me a little or maybe we can smoke together.- I answer shrugging my shoulders.
Marcus: Do you feel like skipping classes and going to smoke?- he asks me and I bite my lip thinking.
Y/n: I can't.- I deny against my will. -But if the offer is still valid at lunchtime, I'll accept it then.- I commented and he smiled delightedly.
Marcus: We're meeting at the back of the dining room.- he tells me and walks away with his back.
Y/n: Deal.- I say a little loud.
I smile amused by the interaction and start walking towards my social class. When I look down the hall, searching for class 4C and I look at each door, but I can't find the one i want.
Y/n: Sorry.- I say stopping a girl with bangs and soft curls of black hair. -I can't find the 4C social class, do you know where it is?- I ask her kindly.
XX: Yes of course, right now I'm going to that same class and I can take you.- she offers me and I sigh calmly.
Y/n: Thank you.- I thank you with a smile. -I've been looking for the class for about five minutes and nothing.- I commit a little embarrassed and amused.
XX: It happens to all of us, It's something very normal when you're new.- she says with a small laugh. -My name is Norah anyway.- she introduces herself with a smile.
Y/n: I am Y/n.- I introduce myself in a friendly way.
Norah: Follow me or we'll be late and they'll tell us off.- she assures me amused and we both start walking. -Where do you come from?- she asks me interested.
Y/n: From Texas.- I answer with a small smile.
Norah: And what brings you to Wellsbury?- curious question.
Y/n: My father has died and my stepmother thought that it would be a good idea a change of air.- I answer her without giving it much importance.
Norah: Oh my god, I'm so sorry.- she apologizes immediately. -I didn't know, I shouldn't have asked or something like that.- she quickly denies.
Y/n: Don't worry, nothing's wrong.- I try to reassure her with a little laugh. -My father wasn't the best person in the world and his death hasn't been a big blow, really.- I assure her with a small smile.
Norah: Okay.- she says a little insecure.
We arrive at the class and she invites me to sit at the table to her right. She introduces me to her boyfriend Jordan when she walks in and the three of us have a quiet conversation. When the teacher comes in, she makes me introduce myself to everyone and begins to teach the class.
I take notes of what she says and underline some things in my book, so I know what to study for the exam. I also write down a couple of things on the book list for the course, crossing off the ones I've already read and making sure to check off the ones I need to buy.
I do the same in the next class, which I also share with the couple and is exactly the same as the previous class. They practically force me to present again, I get flirtatious looks and smiles from some guys. Nothing out of the ordinary.
Jordan: Do you want to eat with us? - he asks me when the class ends.
Y/n: I've met someone to eat, but thanks.- I answer with a grateful smile.
Norah: Well, see you in the next class.- she tells me and I nod to say goodbye to them.
I walk to the cafeteria, to buy myself lunch and then meet up with Marcus. I buy myself a slice of pizza, along with a small packet of chips, an apple and a bottle of water.
I pay for the food and walk to the back door of the dining room. As soon as I walk out the door, I see Marcus leaning against the brick wall and as soon as he sees me he walks over to me.
Y/n: Hello.- I greet you with a smile.
Marcus: Hey.- greets me with a smile. -How where your first classes? - he asks me starting to walk somewhere.
Y/n: To be honest, they were quite good, boring, but good.- I answer watching the soccer field. -What are we doing here?- I ask before taking a bite of my pizza.
Marcus: Under the bleachers is the safest place for some joints.- he answers and I stop walking a little insecure.
Y/n: And couldn't we do it here and that's it? - I ask feeling my heart begin to beat erratically and anxiety reach my stomach.
I haven't known Marcus for mor that 5 minutes and getting under the bleachers, alone with someone i don't know is not the safest option.
Marcus: Because they would see us.- He answers as if it were obvious.
Y/n: But I don't think anyone is going to look here.- I say nervously, looking to the sides and seeing that there are hardly any people.
Marcus: Are you okay? - he asks with a certain tone of concern. -You've turned a little pale and you look scared.- he comments and I look at him swallowing the ball in my throat.
Y/n: Yes, yeah.- I say quickly. -I just don't like being under some stands, it makes me panic.- I say the first thing that comes to mind.
Marcus: We can try to smoke it on the stands and be as little noticeable as possible.- he tells me with a small nervous smile.
Y/n: Sounds good to me.- I answer and we get going again.
We got on the stands, trying not to be seen so much and we sat on top. As he starts rolling the joint, I keep munching on the pizza and trying to ignore the feeling of panic inside me.
Marcus: And why have you moved here? - he asks focused on what he has in his hands.
Y/n: My father died a week ago and my stepmother has thought that it would be a good idea to move and start from scratch. - I answer finishing eating the pizza.
Marcus: Damn.- he says shocked and placing his fist in front of his mouth. -Thats bad.- he says and lights the joint.
Y/n: Don't swear on it.- I shake my head. -My father was a huge asshole and he's better off dead than alive.- I assure him, receiving the joint and taking a deep puff.
Marcus: But still, It's your father.- he comments receiving the joint.
Y/n: He was a monster.- I assure him releasing the smoke. -The only good thing he has done in his life, has been to give me half of everything he had and leave my custody to my stepmother.- I tell him honestly, taking another drag on the joint. -My stepmother is the one who has taken away your weed by the way.- I remind him amused.
Marcus: No one would say so.- he says with a frown. -The truth is that you look more like her than your sister.- he comments with a small laugh.
Y/n: Ginny? - I ask passing him the joint and he nods. -She's my stepsister and if you say it because of her skin; It's because her father is black and she has inherited it in a lighter tone. - I tell him, trying not to sound racist and nothing like that.
Marcus: She's a bit rude.- he comments and I choke on the smoke when I laugh.
Y/n: Oh my god.- I cough letting the smoke out of my lungs. - I'm sure it hasn't been her 100% rudnes. - I assure her amused.
Marcus: You're completely different.- He says like it's a great point.
I laugh denying with my head and we continue talking about other things. He tells me about the things to do in Wellsbury and what is done for fun here. Shortly after we split up to go back to class and meet in the parking lot to go do something in the afternoon.
The rest of the classes go by quickly and I'm sure it's because of my high. When Jordan sees me, he laughs and asks me meaningless questions. Although I don't know if they really don't make sense or if my cloudy mind is not able to find it.
Maxine POV
Ginny is super cute and super cool. Right now we are in my room, after having slipped out of class to eat and spend time getting to know each other. She's so cute and everything she says sounds soooo good.
Max: It looks good on you.- I say lying on the bed, when I see her try on a jacket that I stole from my brother. -You can keep it.- I offer without much importance.
Ginny: Really?- she asks me surprised.
Max: Of course, it looks better on you than it ever has on me.- I assure her looking at herself in the mirror. -The amount of jobs we have in literature is incredible and it's only the first day. - I complain looking at my laptop.
Ginny: Mr. Gitten is a real asshole.- she says sitting in my hammock.
Max: He is drunk by power and wants to torture us.- I assure her with a grimace on myface.
Ginny: It's like, "I'm sorry but you're a loser."- she says and I laugh in agreement with her.
Max: Yes! "I'm sorry that you have a small dick and nobody wants to touch it."- I say with a small movement of the head.
Ginny: "I'm sorry you're going bald, it must be very hard."- she says and let out a little laugh.
Max: And how about Wellsbury? It's a paradise or not?- I ask interested looking at her.
Ginny: It's weird.- she answers me with a grimace.
Max: By the way, I have to ask you in a subtle way and by chance if you have a boyfriend.- I say, remembering Hunter's message about my new friend. -Hunter wants to know.- I comment completely amused.
Ginny: No, I've never had a boyfriend.- she answers. -I've never kissed a boy, we move around a lot and I'm always the new girl.- She finishes explaining and I look at her with a little grimace.
Max: That sounds awful; or potentially exciting.- I say with a bit of mystery. -You can change your personality.- I say thinking of all the possible possibilities.
Ginny: You'd get along great with my mother.- she tells me and I bite my lip delighted.
Max: I would love it, God it would be amazing.- I assure her, looking back at my laptop screen.
We continue to talk about his mother and her story. But let me tell you, her mother is hot, HOT!! and if she was our age and bi; I would try to date her with all my might.
Yesterday was a great day and today is being perfect too. Now I'm with Ginny in the front of the school, talking about Vanderpump Rules, although it's more like I'm talking and Ginny is listening.
Max: Hunter, do you watch Vanderpump Rules? - I ask my friend when he appears.
Hunter: I don't, sorry.- he answers with his usual kind way.
Max: Ginny neither, how uneducated you two are.- I tell them both. -But tonight we'll see it at my house if you wanna come.- I invite him and I see the grin on Hunt's face disapear.
Hunter: I was going to ask you if you wanted to go out later, but...- he tells looking at my friend and I immediately understand.
Max: No, you can go out.- I say with a hand movement. -Yes, she can.- I quickly tell my friend.
Hunter: But you said...- he starts but I interrupt him again.
Max: The program is the worst, as soon as the cast turns 30 it's a shame.- I quickly excuse myself so that my friend can go out with him on a date.
Hunter: Okay, so do you feel like it? - he asks my friend and I nod.
Ginny: Sure.- he answers without thinking too much about it and I hold back the excited cry that I want to let out.
Hunter: Perfect, then it's a date.- he tells her and smiled helplessly.
Ginny: A date? You say as friends? - she asks and I look at her strangely.
Hunter: Or as a date.- he answers slightly excited.
Ginny: Ahh... Sure, if it's okay.- she accepts and I bite my lip happily. -A date.- she says and I can't help noticing her cringe.
Hunter: Cool.- he says and leaves with a big smile.
Max: Texas you have a date!!! - I say excited. -I have to lend you some clothes, because I've seen yours and it's not very there.- I tell her pointing the clothes she's wearing and trying to control myself. -I'm sooooooo excited!!- I say with a slightly higher voice.
Ginny: I've never been on a date.- she reminds me and I panic.
Max: Oh god! is it your first date? - I ask without waiting for an answer. -This is big.- I exclaimed.
Ginny: It's not that big of a deal.- she tells me and I look at her like she's crazy.
Max: I'm going to ignore that, because obviously this really is a big deal.- I assure her. -Hunter Chen is hot and he's a good guy. I'll come around 6 o'clock to help you. - I tell her excited about the plan.
Brodie: Damn!.- he exclaims when he stands next to us. -Who is that?- he asks and I follow his gaze.
Max: That's Ginny's mother.- I answer with a little sigh of love and he whistles. -I know.- I agree with him.
XX: Ginny picnic in the car.- says an impressive blonde when she passes by us. -Goodbye, Norah and Jordan.- she greets them and I open my mouth impressed by her hoarse but at the same time soft and feminine voice. SEXY.
Ginny: I'm going.- she tells that sexy godnes a little loudly.
I just watch the girl walk away, seeing how her jeans cling to her legs and reveal an ass like a matured peach. Her hair blows in the wind, like she's in a movie and it's dancing around her in waves of perfection.
The profile of her face is perfect, the little I've seen has made me fall in love and delighted my eyes for the rest of my life. I have to know who she is, how she knows Ginny and if I have any minuscule chance with her.
Max: Who is she? - I ask completely in love and watching how she hugs Georgia. -I didn't know you had a sister.- I tell my friend taking my eyes from the two blonde beautys for three seconds and I see her frown at my question.
Ginny: She's my stepsister.- she answers rolling her eyes.
Brodie: Well, shes's hot.- he coments and I hit him in the arm. -Hey!- he claims, rubbing his arm.
Max: I've seen her first.- I growl at him and look over at the love of my life again.
Ginny: I'm leaving now.- she says goodbye to us and walks quickly towards her mother's convertible.
Max: How do you know that beauty? - I ask my friends.
Norah: She is practically in almost all of our classes and we talk.- she answers me with a smile. -She's quite nice, besides she's clearly a good student and I'm sure I already have a study partner.- she says with some emotion, since none of us really like to study and she's a study group type.
Max: And why haven't you introduced her to me?- I ask her. -Do you know if it's Gay, Bi or straight? - I ask her quickly, before she can answer my previous question.
Norah: I haven't talked about her sexuality with her.- she denies amused. -I met her yesterday and I don't go around asking about sexualities as soon as I know someone.- she says laughing.
I just start planning in my head, how to approach her and not look creepy. In the afternoon I'll go to Ginny's house, so I'll take the opportunity to see if she's there too and try to start a conversation with her.
But i have to be very subtle about how freaking hot and beatyfull i think she is, or shis going to think that im some kind of weird creep and not talk to me for the rest of my life.
So I have to be subtle, casual, natural, relaxed.... But how the hell i'm going to be relaxed infront of such a beauty. Ugh!!!!!!!
She has to be mine but she still doesn't known it yet.
Y/N avoids Max because she has feelings for the other girl. Max confronts her about it.
Three weeks earlier
The sound of Max's laughter filled your bedroom as she sprawled across your bed, homework forgotten as she regaled you with another story about her latest photography project. The golden hour light streamed through your window, catching the highlights in her dark hair and making her brown eyes sparkle with mischief.
"And then Mr. Peterson tried to tell me that my composition was 'too avant-garde' for a high school portfolio," she said, using air quotes and adopting a pompous voice. "Like, sir, have you seen actual art? This is nothing."
You were supposed to be listening, really you were, but instead you found yourself studying the curve of her smile, the way she gestured with her entire body when she got excited, the small dimple that appeared in her left cheek when she grinned like this. Your heart did that fluttering thing again, the one that had been happening more and more lately.
"Earth to Y/N," Max said, waving a hand in front of your face. "You're staring at me weird again."
Heat rushed to your cheeks. "Sorry, just tired."
Max's expression softened. "You've been saying that a lot lately. Everything okay?"
The concern in her voice made your chest tight. This was the problem – Max cared. She cared so much, and she was always checking in, always making sure you were okay, always being the most incredible friend in the world. And somewhere along the way, 'friend' had stopped being enough.
"Yeah, everything's fine," you lied, forcing a smile. "Just stressed about the SATs."
Max studied your face for a moment longer, like she could see right through you. Which, knowing Max, she probably could. But she didn't push, just reached over and squeezed your hand.
"Well, if you need help studying, you know I'm here. We're in this together, remember?"
The warmth of her hand in yours sent electricity up your arm. You pulled away perhaps a little too quickly, missing the flash of hurt that crossed her features.
"Right. Together."
Two weeks earlier
The Blue Farm Café was busy for a Tuesday afternoon, filled with the usual mix of Wellsbury residents and teenagers escaping homework. You and Max had claimed your usual corner booth, the one with the slightly wobbly table that Max always fixed by folding up a napkin and shoving it under the leg.
"I still can't believe Ginny actually said that to her mom," Max was saying, stirring extra sugar into her coffee. "Like, I know Georgia can be intense, but calling her a liar in front of everyone at dinner? That's brutal even for Ginny."
You nodded, only half-listening as you watched Max's hands move. She had beautiful hands – long fingers, always adorned with different rings she'd collected from thrift stores and vintage shops. Today she was wearing the silver one with the tiny moon that you'd bought her for her birthday.
"Y/N." Max's voice was sharp now. "You're doing it again."
"Doing what?"
"That thing where you pretend to listen but you're actually somewhere else entirely." She leaned back in the booth, crossing her arms. "What's going on with you lately? And don't say you're tired or stressed or whatever. I know you, and this isn't normal."
Your stomach churned. The concerned look in Max's eyes was almost too much to bear. How could you explain that the reason you'd been distracted was because you'd spent the last month falling helplessly in love with your best friend? How could you tell her that every casual touch, every shared laugh, every moment of easy intimacy was slowly killing you because you wanted more – so much more – than she could give?
"It's nothing, Max. Really."
"Bullshit." The word came out harder than intended, and Max immediately looked apologetic. "Sorry, I just... I'm worried about you. We tell each other everything, right? We always have."
The weight of your secret felt crushing. You'd never kept anything from Max before. She knew about your parents' messy divorce, about your anxiety attacks during freshman year, about your embarrassing crush on the barista at the coffee shop downtown. She knew everything except the one thing that mattered most.
"I know. I just need some space to figure things out."
Max's face fell. "Space? From me?"
"Not from you specifically, just... space in general."
It was a lie and you both knew it. Max's expression shifted, hurt replacing concern.
"Okay," she said quietly. "If that's what you need."
The rest of the afternoon passed in uncomfortable silence, both of you picking at your food and avoiding eye contact. When Max offered to drive you home, you declined, saying you wanted to walk. The hurt in her eyes as you left her sitting alone in that booth would haunt you for weeks.
One week earlier
Avoiding Max at school was harder than you'd anticipated. Wellsbury High wasn't that big, and you shared three classes together plus lunch. You'd started eating in the library, claiming you needed quiet to study, and taking different routes between classes.
It was working, mostly, until you literally ran into her outside the art building.
"Oh! Sorry, I—" You looked up to find Max staring down at you, her expression unreadable. "Hi."
"Hi yourself." She didn't move, effectively blocking your path. "How's the studying going?"
"Fine. Good. Really good, actually."
"That's great." Her voice was flat. "I'm glad you're getting so much done in the library during lunch. Must be nice having all that quiet time."
The sarcasm in her tone made you wince. "Max—"
"No, it's cool. I get it. Sometimes you need space." She stepped aside, gesturing for you to pass. "Don't let me keep you from wherever you're rushing off to."
You wanted to say something, to explain, to fix the growing rift between you. But what could you say? The truth was impossible, and any lie would just make things worse.
"I'll see you around," you mumbled, hurrying past her.
"Yeah," Max called after you. "Maybe you will."
Present day
The autumn air was crisp as you hurried down the hallway, clutching your books tighter against your chest. You could hear Max's voice calling your name from behind, but you didn't slow down. You couldn't. Not when your heart was doing that stupid fluttering thing it had been doing for weeks now whenever she was around.
"Y/N! Seriously, what the hell?" Max's footsteps quickened behind you, and you knew there was no escaping this time. Her hand caught your arm, spinning you around to face her in an empty corridor near the art wing.
Maxine Baker-Chen stood there, her dark hair slightly messy from chasing after you, brown eyes flashing with a mixture of hurt and frustration. She looked beautiful, which was exactly the problem.
"We need to talk," she said, not letting go of your arm. "Like, actually talk. Not this weird dance we've been doing where you pretend you don't see me and I pretend it doesn't hurt."
Your stomach dropped. "Max, I—"
"No." She held up her free hand. "I'm talking first. We've been best friends since I moved to Wellsbury. We've told each other everything. We've had sleepovers where we stayed up until three AM talking about life and dreams and all that deep stuff. And now suddenly you can't even look at me?"
You pulled your arm free, taking a step back. The fluorescent lights hummed overhead, casting harsh shadows in the empty hallway. "It's complicated."
"Complicated how?" Max stepped closer, her voice softer now but no less intense. "Did I do something? Say something? Because I've been wracking my brain trying to figure out what I did wrong, and I'm coming up empty."
The vulnerability in her voice made your chest ache. You'd been so focused on protecting yourself that you hadn't considered how your sudden distance might be affecting her. Max, who had trust issues from her parents' messy relationship. Max, who had opened up to you about feeling like people always left.
"You didn't do anything wrong," you whispered, staring at the linoleum floor.
"Then what is it?" She moved closer again, and you could smell her vanilla perfume, could feel the warmth radiating from her body. "Talk to me. Please."
You closed your eyes, feeling tears prick at the corners. The words felt stuck in your throat, heavy and terrifying. But Max deserved the truth, didn't she? Even if it ruined everything.
"I'm in love with you."
The confession hung in the air between you like a bomb waiting to explode. You kept your eyes squeezed shut, not wanting to see the look of shock or disgust or pity that was probably crossing her face right now.
The silence stretched on for what felt like forever.
"Y/N," Max's voice was barely a whisper.
"I know, okay?" The words came tumbling out now that the dam had broken. "I know it's weird and probably ruins everything between us, but I can't help it. I've been trying to get over it, trying to put some distance between us so maybe these feelings would go away, but they haven't. If anything, they've gotten stronger."
You finally opened your eyes, expecting to see Max backing away, maybe looking uncomfortable or confused. Instead, she was staring at you with an expression you couldn't quite read.
"You've been avoiding me," she said slowly, "because you're in love with me?"
"Yes." The word came out as barely a breath.
"You idiot." But she was smiling now, a soft, almost relieved smile that made your heart skip. "You beautiful, ridiculous idiot."
Before you could ask what she meant, Max closed the distance between you, her hands coming up to cup your face gently. Her thumbs brushed over your cheekbones, wiping away tears you didn't realize had fallen.
"I've been in love with you too," she whispered. "I thought maybe... I hoped maybe you felt the same way, but then you started pulling away and I figured I'd imagined all the moments between us."
"Max..." You could barely breathe.
"All those times we almost kissed? During movie nights when we'd fall asleep tangled up together? The way you look at me sometimes like I'm the only person in the world?" Her voice was soft, vulnerable. "I felt it too."
Your hands came up to cover hers where they rested against your face. "Really?"
Instead of answering with words, Max leaned in and kissed you. It was soft at first, tentative, like she was giving you a chance to pull away. But you didn't pull away. Instead, you melted into her, your arms wrapping around her waist as you kissed her back with all the pent-up longing you'd been carrying for months.
When you finally broke apart, both of you were breathing hard. Max rested her forehead against yours, her eyes still closed.
"Promise me something," she whispered.
"Anything."
"Next time you're scared about your feelings, talk to me instead of running away. We're in this together now, okay?"
You nodded, unable to speak past the emotion clogging your throat. Max Baker-Chen loved you back. Max Baker-Chen had kissed you in an empty school hallway like something out of a movie.
"Okay," you finally managed. "Together."
She grinned then, that bright, mischievous smile that had made you fall for her in the first place. "Good. Now come on, we have a lot of lost time to make up for."
As she took your hand and led you down the hallway, you couldn't help but smile. You'd been so afraid of losing her friendship that you'd almost lost her entirely. But now, walking hand in hand with the girl you loved, you realized that sometimes the scariest leaps were the ones most worth taking.
The autumn sun streamed through the windows, painting everything in golden light, and for the first time in weeks, everything felt exactly as it should be.
Later that evening
Max's bedroom was exactly as you remembered it – organized chaos with photographs covering every available wall space, fairy lights strung haphazardly around the room, and clothes draped over her desk chair. She'd insisted on going back to her place after school, claiming you both had "three weeks of best friend time to make up for."
Now you were curled up on her bed while she rummaged through her desk drawer, looking for something.
"Found it," she said triumphantly, pulling out a small photo album. She climbed onto the bed beside you, close enough that you could feel the warmth of her body against yours. "I made this after our first month of friendship. I was going to give it to you but then I thought it might be too much, too soon."
She opened the album, revealing carefully curated photos of the two of you from various adventures around Wellsbury. There was one from your first coffee date at Blue Farm, both of you making ridiculous faces at the camera. Another from the Halloween party where you'd gone as each other, swapping clothes and trying to mimic each other's mannerisms. Page after page of memories, of moments you'd forgotten but she'd preserved.
"Max," you breathed, touched beyond words. "This is incredible."
"Look at this one," she said, pointing to a photo near the end of the album. It was from last month, taken at the town festival. You were both laughing at something off-camera, but in the photo, Max was looking at you instead of whatever was funny. The expression on her face was soft, almost reverent.
"I remember taking this," she said quietly. "You had cotton candy in your hair and you were laughing so hard you couldn't breathe. And I just... I couldn't look away. That's when I knew."
"Knew what?"
"That I was in love with you." She turned to face you fully. "I've been carrying this around for weeks, looking at this photo and wondering if I was imagining the way you looked at me sometimes. If I was seeing what I wanted to see."
You studied the photo more closely. In it, you were indeed looking at Max too, your expression mirroring hers – soft and full of longing.
"We're both idiots," you said with a laugh. "Look at us, we're literally making heart eyes at each other."
"The biggest idiots," Max agreed, giggling. "All this time we could have been together, and instead we were pining like characters in a bad romance novel."
She closed the album and set it aside, then turned back to you. The mood shifted, becoming more serious.
"Can I ask you something?" she said.
"Anything."
"When did you know? When did you realize you were in love with me?"
You thought about it for a moment, trying to pinpoint the exact moment when friendship had blossomed into something deeper.
"Remember that night in September when you came over after fighting with your dad about the college applications?" you began. "You were so upset, and we ended up talking until sunrise about dreams and fears and what we wanted our lives to look like. And there was this moment, right before dawn, when you fell asleep with your head on my shoulder, and I just... I looked at you sleeping in the morning light and thought 'I want to wake up like this every day for the rest of my life.'"
Max's eyes had gone soft and dreamy. "I remember that night. I almost kissed you when I woke up. You were already awake, just watching me sleep, and you looked so peaceful. I wanted to kiss you so badly it physically hurt."
"Why didn't you?"
"Same reason you didn't tell me you loved me – I was scared. Scared of ruining what we had, scared you didn't feel the same way, scared of losing the most important person in my life."
You reached for her hand, intertwining your fingers. "We wasted so much time being scared."
"But we're here now," Max said, squeezing your hand. "That's what matters."
She leaned in and kissed you again, slower this time, deeper. When you broke apart, you were both breathless.
"So what happens now?" you asked.
Max grinned, that mischievous spark back in her eyes. "Now we make up for lost time. Starting with that sleepover we never got to have as girlfriends."
"Girlfriends," you repeated, testing the word. It felt right on your tongue.
"Unless you prefer 'partners in crime'? 'Significant others'? 'The loves of each other's lives'?"
You laughed, pulling her closer. "I like girlfriends. Though 'loves of each other's lives' has a nice ring to it too."
Max settled against your side, her head finding its familiar place on your shoulder. But this time, there was no pretending it was just friendly cuddling. This time, you could run your fingers through her hair without hiding how much you loved the silky texture. This time, when she pressed a kiss to your collarbone, you didn't have to pretend your heart wasn't racing.
"I love you," Max whispered against your skin.
"I love you too," you whispered back.
Outside, Wellsbury was settling into another peaceful evening, unaware that in Max's bedroom, two best friends had finally become something more. And as you drifted off to sleep in each other's arms, you couldn't help but think that all the fear and confusion and weeks of avoidance had been worth it to end up here – exactly where you belonged.
hiiii !! i started this blog bc i couldn’t find any maxine baker content on here :( so i figured i’d just write what comes to mind lmao
a few things: i mainly write fem!reader, i’m open to writing for other ginny & georgia (female) characters, tho this blog will be max focused. also, very important - this blog is sfw only !!!
OMG YOU WRITE OF GINNY AND GEORGIA! PLS IM BEGGING WRITE A MAX BAKER X FEM READER!
Sorry for the aggression… No one writes for her🥲
Maybe like R is Ginnys sister (different mom) but she never knew her mom bc she dropped her off at Zions w a note and a DNA test or something. Maybe she does online school bc she’s always travelling w Zion then she moves with him and goes over to see Ginny, Georgia and Austin bc Georgia was always basically her mom.
She then had her first day at school and meets Max and they both have gay panic and stutter bc yk gay.
Then later Ginny takes her to sit w her friends and Max is talking about this girl she ran into and swears she’s in love and R is just sitting next to Ginny on the end of the table waiting for her to notice she’s there. And she only notices when Ginny asks what the girl’s name was and Max is like, “CRAP! I WAS JUST RAMBLING AND NEVER ASKED HER NAME! SHE KNEW MINE BUT I WOULDN’T SHUT UP TO LEG HER SPEAK! Oh god🥲” and bangs her head on the lunch table and R is like, “My names y/n Miller btw” and Max just slowly lifts her head, and everyone is like ‘how did she not notice the person sitting right mf there! although very max’ then she’s like “I do enjoy the rambling though, it’s cute” then everyone is like ‘oh SHES the girl’ and start laughing at Max. R after saying this gets up and sees her friends from one of her classes and goes to max giving max her phone open on contacts so max can put in her number but she’s just broken. Abby snatches the phone and is like ‘sorry i think you broke her’ and outs in the number. R smirks and kisses Max’s cheek before going off with her other friends.
When she’s out of ear shot Max starts yelling at Ginny, “YOU NEVER TOLD ME YOU WERE RELATED TO A HOT, SAPPHIC MILK CHOCOLATE GODDESS😭 WTF GINNY! I LET UOU DATE MY BROTHER AND YOU DONT EVEN SAY ANYTHING ABOUT YOUR HOT SISTER!”
omg i actually love this. the aggression is very much needed! no one writes for our girl maxine.. she needs the love.
sorry this took me so long.. haha. don’t be afraid to request more. i promise not to take as long this time.
Gay Panic
When you found out you would be moving to Wellsbury for a while, you were through the roof excited.
You hadn’t seen Ginny, Georgia or Austin in a while, and you were beginning to miss your family! A few days after you’d arrived, your dad enrolled you in Wellsbury High School.
Ginny immediately introduced you to her friends. She introduced you to Abby, Norah, and a group of boys that you could care less about.
Your first class happened to be a drama class, where you met Maxine Baker. She drew you in with her vibrant colors and extroverted personality.
The teacher wanted to do an exercise to start out the class, in which the class paired up and acted out a scene of a play of their choice. Max loved the class, but she had no friends in it.
A new face had her intrigued and so she partnered with you.
You suggested Romeo and Juliet—because you can’t go wrong with it. Max stuttered and reluctantly agreed. She tried to get out that you should do the balcony scene, but it came out as a blubbering mess.
The first time you open your mouth, a similar things happen. Red tints your brown cheeks, as you make a fool of yourself.
Normally you can keep your cool around cute girls, but this girl is different. She’s confident and knows what she wants.
The two of you laugh off the stuttering and blushing Max grabs a book off the shelf so the two of you can act out the scene. You lean in close to her and can smell whatever perfume she decided to spray.
The close proximity has both of you blushing again.
Both of you mess up and stutter so much neither of you even finish the exercise before the teacher pulls everyone in to assign the work for the day.
The rest of your first morning is just as exciting. It’s followed by two other classes—art and study hall, where you meet some other girls. After study hall you follow Ginny to the cafeteria where you sit at a table filled with the same faces you saw this morning.
And Maxine.
You are surprised to see her at the table. But it makes sense. All the girls are more quiet than Max, which makes you believe she’s the leader.
Especially because she’s leading the conversation right now.
“So we are like acting the scene out, right, because I swear that our drama teacher hates me,” Max talks fast. “But anyway, we’re acting it out and I swear- I’m in love.”
“What happened to, uh, what’s her name?” Abby chews on a fry as she tries to come up with the name of the girl Max was all about the week before.
“Oh, I’m over her.”
“Already?” Norah barks out a laugh. “That was fast.”
Max glares at her.
“So this girl,” Brodie shrugs. “She hot or what?”
“Uh, gorgeous!” Max shakes her hands all around like she’s have a seizure. “She’s mixed, and kind of looks like Ginny. But she is the prettiest girl I’ve ever met. Like ever.”
“What was her name again?” Ginny rests her elbows on the table.
“Crap,” Max’s face falls. “I was rambling and stuttering and blushing so hard I forgot to ask her what her name was. I told her mine but I didn’t ask. Oh my God. I want to die now. I’m never going to speak to her again.”
As the girl bangs her head on the table, you reach your hand over Ginny and say, “I’m Y/N Miller, by the way.”
Abby’s mouth drops open and she laughs, “Max.. how did you not see her.”
Max is frozen in place. She isn’t blinking, talking, or breathing for that matter. She looks like she might cry.
“Um, are you okay?”
“Don’t worry, she does this all the time,” Ginny waves it off.
“What? Falls in love with girls she just meets?” You laugh awkwardly.
“Has gay panics,” Norah clarified.
“Ah,” You retreat your hand.
Jordan and Abby laugh at Max, whom is still frozen in place.
“Do you think if we nudge her she’ll tip over?” Abby jokes.
“Max, breathe,” Ginny places her hand on Max’s shoulder.
“Thank you for complimenting my looks,” You flash a bright smile. “And I enjoyed the rambling, it’s very cute.”
You see a few girls from your art class and get up to go say hi, stopping near Max, who then takes a deep breath and begins blinking again.
“Here,” you place your phone in her hand and she just blinks up at you. “Put your number in. Your cute. We should meet up some time.”
Abby leans across the table and puts the number in the contacts app, “I think you broke her.”
You smirk and grab your phone out of the redheads hand. You drop the phone into the back pocket of your jeans. Leaning down, you plop a kiss on Max’s cheek.
Max’s eyes widen and she waits for your to be out of earshot before grilling Ginny.
“Virginia Miller! How could you not tell me you were sisters with a hot, sapphic, greek god?!” Max starts freaking out. “What the F?! I let you date my brother and you gate-keep your beautifully gorgeous sister??”
Ginny just chuckles. “She has that effect on people.”
“You better text her,” Norah threatens. “Or I will.”
I AM OVER IT IVE BEEN WAITING FOR SO DAMN LONG FOR SOMEONE TO WRITE ONE IM DOING IT MY FUCKING SELF BUCKLE UP BITCHES
You had a thing for Maxine Baker ever since you laid an eye on her in Ap English. She couldn’t have been paying less attention to what was going on around her.
“Uhhh Jordan I don’t what to do!” You groaned why’ll jokingly banging your head against your locker. He rubbed your shoulder and sighed. “You poor useless homosexual. Ask her out! Hang out with her friends. God bake her some god damn cookies, just something to speak to her!” You turned to him and really thought about kicking him in the nuts over and over again and till they started bleeding.
“how the fuck it that gonna work? You just want me to walk to someone I’ve never talked to before and just say “hey girlllll I don’t know me but I love your beautiful hair and your sexy Halloween costume let’s make out?”” You gasped when he nodded his head. “Jordan my love life is on the line think of something!” I say stomping on the ground and looking down when I hear paper crumbling.
“SPRING MUSICAL: Auditions Monday to Thursday 9 to 3:40”
I gasped and shoved the paper in Jordan’s face and smiled. “I just got the perfect idea!” Jordan smiled and shook you “I told you you had what it took to be in drama club!” I cocked your head to the side confused. “I’m going back stage crew.” Jordan shrugged and smiled “better than nothing”
My plan was working pretty well. After all silver left me in charge over getting measurements from all the actors which meant your got to be in sniffing distance of Maxine Baker. The only problem with that is that I was gay panicking and suffering through the whole thing. Luckily Max didn’t seem to notice. I was sitting on the bench sipping on lemonade and eating a brownie when I heard they director shouted. “Where’s the understudy!”
“Charlie’s out sick and Alice is stuck in traffic for at least another hour.” Kyle said.
oh shit! Jordan raised his hand and smiled. “Y/n knows the lines” it’s true you went over all of them with Jordan and just happen to read other characters parts when I were bored. “Is this true?” I nodded your throat to dry to speak. The director nodded and pointed to the stage. I ran up and stood stiffly in front of max. This wasn’t even the main reason you felt like this but this scene has a kiss. What was I supposed to due. Max smiled at your and begun reading over her lines flawlessly. Her voice could melt dry fucking ice. As the stage play said you walked closer to each other and Max put her hand gently on your cheek and stare in your eyes. “Thanks by the way” you blinked at her and she smiled. “For loving my “sexy Halloween costume” and saying my hair is pretty.” You gasped at her and she smiled before leaning into to kiss you.” Your world melted away and you felt your knee threaten to buckle. She pulled away and wiped your lip gloss off the side of her mouth. “You should hang with me and MANG y/n” you gasped again she knows your name! After that you kinda were part of the group the (first letter of your name) in MANG now . And they group always made fun of your crush on Max.
one day max asked you to hand her her powder from her stage makeup bag and when you popped it open and turn written on a cafeteria napkin read. “Will you be a girlfriend?” Your turned around and max was right there nose to nose. “Well?” She asked nervously. You slowly nodded and when you did max wrapped her arms around you and kissed you harshly as said she’d been waiting for years to do this. She pulled away and smiled before Holding up a lip liner pencil. “Now help me line my lips”

Maxine POV
Today was the most important day of my life. Today we were opening the Sing Sing musical and I was soo excited. The stupid Sophie Sanchez isn't going to spoil my big day, she and her "I don't feel like I should" fuck with this day.
Today I am the protagonist and all the attention will be focused on me completely. So I'm going to give it my all, be the best lead of all and ignore all the bad things that are happening in my life right now.
Like the betrayal of which I assumed was my best friend, who has been talking and sending dirty pictures behind my back to my brother. I can't believe that Ginny could betrayed me like that.
Me thinking about her, avoiding throwing myself at her stepsister, with whom by the way she doesn't even get along with, and she stabs me in the back. I can't believe she did something so low, so mean to me and didn't even think to tell me.
I love Y/n, I really really like her and have avoided being alone with her for a while now. Apart from the fact that she is the most attractive person I landed my eyes on. I haven't wanted to act on my feelings for her out of respect for Ginny, so I've focused on Sophie and look how that turned out.
Right now I am behind the curtain, fully prepared and ready to start the musical. But a person interrupts my peace of mind and I can't help but roll my eyes at the presence of said person.
Ginny: Max hey.- she greets me but I just ignore her. -Hey, why are you ignoring me?- she asks me, confused and I roll my eyes from her cynicism.
Max: For getting into the role.- I answer seriously and without wanting to argue at this moment.
Ginny: Max stop.- she says following me. -Are you mad at me?- she asks me confused and I can't help but roll my eyes again at how good of an actress she is.
Max: Puff.- I sigh annoyed and impressed by her performance.
Ginny: What?- she asks confused. -I love you so much, you're my best friend and I don't understand why you're so rude for no reason.- she says and I can't believe her cynicism right now.
XY: Everyone to their posts, to their posts.- says the director of the play. -You, shine like a star.- he tells me making me smile, but as soon as he leaves that smile disappears and I look angrily at my "friend".
Ginny: Max please tell me what I've done.- he asks me and I'm sick of this.
Max: You slept with my brother.- I answer and go on stage leaving her behind.
I forgot the conversation I just had, because she doesn't deserve to spoil my acting and take away the good experience of this day. Today I am the star, so I am not going to allow her drama and her betrayal to take away the prominence from me.
As soon as the first part of the performance is over, I walk past her and order her out into the hallway with me. I plan to end this now and I do not intend to touch this subject again at another time.
Ginny: Max.- she calls me walking behind me.
Max: Ginny shut up.- I order her angrily without stopping my walk.
Ginny: Max seriously, I can explain it.- she tells me and I point towards the interior of the theater.
Max: Seriously, the play.- I tell her and walk a little more before stopping in the middle of the hallway. -Talk.- I order annoyed.
Ginny: Max, I'm sorry, I'm so sorry, I had never had a friend like you and I didn't want to screw everything up.- she apologizes and I can't believe the cheap excuse she uses.
Max: No, don't give me the bullshit about the new girl Ginny.- I say hurt. -You're my best friend and you lied to me from the beginning? - I ask disappointed.
Ginny: I wanted to tell you, really.- she assures me defensively. -But I thought there was nothing going on with Marcus, and then you were very sad about Sophie and I couldn't.- she says in her defense.
Max: Yes, you could.- I quickly point out. -You say "Hey Max, I'm an asshole and I want to tell you the truth that I'm not really a virgin and that I lied to you about it and about sleeping with your brother".- I tell her angry and hurt by the lies.
Norah: Okay girls, girls let's calm down.- she tells us, appearing out of nowhere.
Max: No Norah, you don't want to play Switzerland in this.- I say fed up with her attitude of peacemaker.
Norah: Hey, you don't need to yell at me.- she says with a certain annoying tone.
Ginny: You told Max about Marcus, you were the one who told me to shut up? - she asks Abby and I look at them completely surprised and hurt by the new information.
Abby: Amm, wow, it wasn't me.- she denies and I don't know who to believe or what to believe anymore.
Max: You knew and you made me tell you, pretending to be surprised and outraged? - I ask my redheaded friend hurt. -My God Abby, wow.- I say disappointed. -Did you know it too?- I ask Norah.
Norah: I don't, swear.- She quickly denies it and I have no choice but to believe her.
Abby: Max I didn't want to hurt you.- she tells me in her defense.
Max: It's funny, because hurting me is the only thing that all the people who are telling me that do. - I say with an immense desire to cry. -I can't even look at you.- I tell my friend.
Ginny: Max.- she calls me in the form of a plea.
Hunter: Hey.- he says appearing in the corridor and we all remain silent for a second.
Abby: Ginny has cheated on you.- she says directly to the boy. -Yes, she slept with Marcus.- she says and I only stare at what was my best friend.
Hunter: Is it true? - he asks after approaching her.
Ginny: Hunter.- she says a little choppy.
Max: Turns out Ginny wasn't the person we thought she was.- I say angrily. -She has secrets, do you know that sexy photo she sent you?- I ask my friend without taking my eyes off Ginny.
Hunter: Why did you tell her?- he asks his girlfriend, although not for much longer.
Max: Well, it turns out that she also sent it to Marcus, just before you sang that song for her.- I finish telling him, seeing the pain and betrayal in my friend's eyes. -Because that's the kind of person she is.- I assure seeing how she is about to cry and although in any other case I would comfort her, today I don't feel like it and she doesn't deserve it either.
Everything gets worse when my brother appears in the hall. I can't believe he's such a jerk, enough to hook up with my best friend behind my back and not tell me. Worst of all, according to my brother, it's a mistake, but that mistake has broken my friendship and my trust in three people.
Max: And I respected your request of not going out with Y/n, because I was your friend and I didn't want to betray you.- I say with an ironic laugh. -But you go behind my back and do exactly what you asked me not to do with your step-sister.- I shake my head, fed up and tired of this conversation.
I watch as Hunter hits my brother, but I don't feel sorry and I'm actually glad he did it. I deny with my head and decide to return inside the theater since I still have the second act to do.
Abby: Max, Max wait.- she says trying to stop me.
Max: No no no.-I deny letting go of her grip. -Don't talk to me.- I ask and walk into the theater.
I'm a complete stupid. I do not understand what I have done to deserve this, but I know that I do not deserve it and that I am suffering unfairly. I just want to get this over with, so I can go home and go to bed and cry.
POV You
The musical has been awesome and Max's performance has been incredible. I had never seen her sing or act, so seeing her do it tonight has been incredible and I was practically the whole performance with my mouth wide open.
I had bought Max some flowers, to congratulate her on her performance and to try to cheer her up on her recent breakup with Sophie. I had found out from Abby this morning, so I have sent her some stickers to amuse her and cheer her up a bit, although I have not received any response from her.
So I stay waiting in the hall at the exit, waiting for Max to come out of the locker room changed so I can give her the flowers. I see how the people in the public are leaving, leaving fewer and fewer people in the school.
Then I start to see some of the actors come out, talking to each other and celebrating the success of the musical. But it's been almost an hour and Max still hasn't come out. Her friends had left very early on and she dindn't go with them, so she should still be in high school.
When I see Riley leaving with another girl, I decide to go over and ask her if Max is still inside and if she's missing a lot to get out.
Y/n: Hi Riley.- I greet her kindly. -Incredible performance by the way.- I congratulate her, seeing how she smiles at me in gratitude and says something to her friend.
Riley: Thank you very much Y/n.- thanks me and looks at the flowers in my hands.
Y/n: Yeah, I wanted to ask you if Max has long before she gets out?- I ask her and she looks at me with ¿pity? I'm not sure.
Riley: Max has been gone for about forty minutes or something like that.- she tells me and I nod embarrassed.
Y/n: Okay, thanks anyway.- I thank her feeling ridiculous. -And congratulations to both of you for your performances.- I congratulate them again, as I walk back and walk away from the site.
Riley: Thanks again.- She thanks me a little funny.
I just give them one last smile and leave the building as quickly as possible. I can't believe the embarrassment I've been through right now. I'm an idiot and I just made a fool of myself with the flowers and all.
I'm sure that on Monday, the whole school will know that I waited for Max for an hour with flowers, just for her to be long gone. I'll be the laughingstock.
I decide to drive home and drop by hers to give her the flowers. I mean, I've been waiting an hour and I'm not coming back home with the flowers. So I drive home, taking ten minutes and parking the car next to my mother's.
I quickly get out of it, closing it and running towards the house across the street. I fix my clothes quickly, before knocking on the door and being greeted by Ellen.
Ellen: Hi honey, I don't think this is the best time for you to talk to Marcus.- she tells me seriously, but at the same time sad and with a grimace on her lips.
Y/n: Oh, I didn't come to see Marcus.- I deny a little embarrassed and show her the flowers. -I came to congratulate Max on the musical, I've been waiting at high school but they just told me that she had left and I don't want to go home with the flowers.- I tell her and I see how she smiles tenderly.
Ellen: I don't know Y/n, it's not the best time and I think it's better that you come back tomorrow.- she says with a little uncertain sigh.
Y/n: That's okay. - I deny with a little grimace and with some sadness. -Can you give it to her from me then.- I say embarrassed and I extend the bouquet of pink lilies to her.
Ellen: Wait a second, the show ended more than an hour and a half ago.- she comments with surprise. -Have you been waiting until now at school?- she asks me with surprise.
Y/n: I wanted to give her the flowers and congratulate her.- I answer with a little grimace.
Ellen: Things aren't at their best right now.- she comments somewhat seriously and I nod with a small sigh.
Y/n: I understand.- I accept surrendered. -I suppose I'll come another time and buy some new flowers.- I comment looking at the flowers in my hands, knowing that they'll go bad and it's better to buy new ones. -Good night then.- I say as a farewell with a sad face.
Ellen: Wait.- I stop with a small sigh. -Max is in her room, maybe you can cheer her up a bit and improve things a bit.- she tells me and I take a step forward uncertainly.
Y/n: Are you sure. I can return another day without problems and I understand that this is not the best moment. - I assure you without wanting to impose myself.
Ellen: Don't worry, the problems I have with your mother don't go with you and you don't deserve the consequences.- she comments, stepping aside and letting me into her house.
Y/n: Wait, did you say that you have problems with my mother? - I asked confused, because I didn't know that they had argued or something like that.
Ellen: We've had a disagreement dear, but you have nothing to do with it and you're always very polite.- she answers me with a small smile. -The differences in the education of our children that your mother and I have are our business.- he tells me and I nod.
Y/n: I know it's not my place and that I respect you Ellen.- I tell her a little nervous. -But Georgia is the best stepmother I could have asked for, I know she's not the most common and she's not the most normative mother in the world either.- I say seriously. -But everything she does, it's for the good of the people she loves and cares about. Either hide information or cover the bruises that your father left you.- I tell her honestly.
Ellen: Honey.- she says saddened.
Y/n: The things she does are driven by love, I'm sure whatever the reason for your dispute is: I can assure you that her intention was not to betray you, hurt you or any of those things. But to protect you and maybe try to prevent you from stressing or suffering for some reason.- I say in defense of Georgia, knowing how she acts and knowing what she is capable of doing. -Now I'm going to congratulate Max and I'm going home.- I tell her with a small smile.
Ellen: No need honey.- she tells me and I look at her confused. -It's already late and even if you live in the house across the street, it's better that you stay here to sleep and I'll take care of telling your mother.- she offers me with a smile and I smiled back.
Y/n: Thank you very much Mrs. Baker.- I thank excitedly.
Ellen: Stop calling me Mrs. Baker, call me Ellen and go up to Max's room.- she says and I nod practically running upstairs.
I walk up the stairs of the house, past Marcus's room and stopping in front of Max's. I knock on the door, hearing her growl from the other side of the door and telling me to get out. Although she really doesn't know it's me and thinks I'm her mother.
Y/n: Are you really not going to let me in?- I ask her with a smile, opening the door and poking my head behind the door.
Max: Honestly, I don't want to see you Y/n.- she tells me in a bad mood and I look at her confused.
She is lying face down on her bed, in her pajamas and without any trace of makeup on her face. Her hair is tied up in a bun and I can appreciate her reddish eyes, probably from crying.
Y/n: Now what have I done? - I ask confused, entering the room and closing the door behind me.
Max: Don't play dumb.- she says harshly and I get even more confused.
Y/n: I'm not playing dumb, I really don't know what you're talking about and what I'm supposedly done.- I assure her, walking a couple of steps towards her. -I just came to congratulate you on the musical and to give you some flowers.- I say, stretching out the flowers.
Max: I appreciate it.- she tells me sitting on the bed and receiving the flowers. -But I don't believe that you don't know anything.- denies without believing me.
Y/n: I'm being honest, I don't know what you're talking about and if you don't tell me I can't know what you're talking about.- I assure her approaching and sitting on the bed, leaving my right side in front of her.
Max: About Ginny and Marcus.- she tells me and I look at her confused.
Y/n: What do they have to do with each other? from what i know they hardly speak.- I comment confused; trying to understand what's going on.
Max: Wait.- she says looking at me with surprise and disbelief. -You really don't know anything about Ginny and my brother?_ asks raising both of her eyebrows.
Y/n: What am I supposed to know? - I ask a little nervous, since I can expect anything from my stepsister and now I don't think it's a good thing.
Max: They've had sex.- She answers me directly and I open my eyes in surprise.
Y/n: Wait what?- I ask in shock. -That can't be right, Ginny can't stand your brother and she's with Hunter.- I deny without thinking. -I mean, Ginny isn't quite what she seems, but she appreciates you and I highly doubt she'd do something so despicable to you.- I say, unable to believe it, because if it's true and she's done it.... that means I've been wasting time.
If what Max is telling me is true, that means that Ginny is a hypocrite and that she has done what she practically forbade me to do. She has slept with my best friend, when she forbade me to even approach Max in a friendly way, let alone romantically.
She's a huge hypocrite, I didn't see the need to tell her anything about Marcus; but because I didn't care and because I thought I wouldn't be able to do that to Max. But I realize how wrong I've been.
All this only makes my anger double. Not only because of her lack of ethics and her betrayal to her best friend. But also because she forbade me from getting close to her friend, with whom I get along great and with whom I am completely in love with.
But while she forbade me and killed me with her eyes every time I was near her friends, but mostly from Max, she was fucking my best friend behind everyone's back.
But that's not what doubles or triples my anger. What multiplies my anger is that while I saw Max being happy with another girl, how they kissed and were completely cute with each other. She was doing what she told me I couldn't do.
While I looked away at Max's smile and happiness around Sophie, feeling like the most shitty person in the world for not being able to be the one putting a smile on her face.
Max has been the first person I have fallen in love with, she has been the first person with whom I can only imagine myself with. An involuntary smile appears on my face every time I think of her and with which my day becomes more enjoyable.
She is the first person that I am not only attracted to physically in years, but also emotionally and mentally. Because her mind and the way she thinks makes me fall in love with her even more with most of the things she says. Her witticisms are funny and entertaining. Her personality is the same as that of a Golden Retriever puppy and she seems like the cutest thing in the world to me.
In addition to the fact that she is very passionate about the things she likes and always tries to show how capable she is to face everything that is thrown at her.
But even knowing everything about her, I don't know how her lips feel on mine, I don't know how her touch feels in a way that isn't friendly. I don't know what her lips taste like, or the taste of her body, or the feel of her hair between my fingers or her hands in my hair.
And believe me that there are moments in which it has been very difficult for me not to send everything to hell and kiss her. Especially because of the smell of her perfume, I don't know what it has in it but it drives me a little crazy and makes me lose concentration on some occasions, depending on how close she is.
But I haven't been able to do anything because off Ginny and now there's nothing I regret more.
Maxine POV
I stay silent, watching Y/n's scowl as her eyes are locked somewhere on the wall behind me. I give her a little time, so that she can think about what I just said and it goes without saying, that I believe her with respect to the fact that she knows nothing.
Y/n: Bitch.- she growls and I look at her with a raised eyebrow.
Max: Excuse you?- I exclaim a little hurt and surprised by the word.
Y/n: It's not you.- she quickly denies, approaching and placing her hand on my knee. -Are you sure about Ginny and Marcus?- she asks uncertainly and with a certain annoyed tone.
Max: Yes, yesterday I saw the messages that Ginny sent my brother's cell phone and today when I faced her she admitted it.- she growled angry and hurt by such a betrayal.
Y/n: She's a hypocrite.- she growls looking away and leaving an incredibly sexy jaw visible.
Max: Why do you say so? - I ask curious, biting my lip at how sexy and attractive she looks angry.
Y/n: Because she told me not to get close to any of you; but especially you and she goes and fucks my best friend. - she growls completely annoyed, getting up from the bed and igniting curiosity in me.
Max: Why would she tell you to get away from me especially? - I ask confused, watching her body and how it moves from one side to another in an fast way.
Y/n: Because you're her best friend and I can't have anything with you.- she answers annoyed, without giving much thought to what she said and surprising me.
Max: Wait what? - I ask getting up suddenly from my bed and leaving the flowers lying around. -Have something with me in what sense? - I ask again, feeling for the first time today the illusion and the hope that she might reciprocates my feelings.
Y/n: In which one is going to be Maxine?- she responds by rolling her eyes and stopping her walking, to look me in the eye. -I like you, no, delete that.- she quickly denies, taking a step towards me and destroying me. -I love you, you drive me fucking crazy and I'm barely able to think of someone other than you since we moved to Wellsbury.- she admits and my heart regains all hope at a frantic beating.
Max: Wait, are you declaring yourself? - I ask with emotion.
Y/n: I'm telling the truth.- answers taking another step towards me. -The only reason why I've never told you anything or acted on my feelings, was because Ginny forced me and forbade me from trying anything with you.- she explains and the anger inside me grows bigger.
Max: Did she tell you that too? - I ask her and she nods. -That bitch, she told me that since we were friends, I couldn't have anything with you because our friendship.- I explaine. -And me like an idiot listening to her, practically obsessing over Sophie in order to get over you and getting my heart broken in the process. While she fucked my brother and did what she had asked me not to do.- she growled annoyed.
Y/n: Do you like me? - Surprised question.
Max: How can I not like you! - I exclaimed obviously. -Have you seen yourself in the mirror, God you are perfect, from the tip of your nose, to your teeth, your smile and the shape of your ears.- I say quickly. -You know how to draw, you're kind, funny, intelligent, you play the guitar, you like to read, you have incredible taste in music and you look like that.- I say pointing to her body with both hands. -How the hell I wasn't going to like you.- I exclaimed opening my eyes as if the mere idea of not liking her was completely insane.
Y/n: You know what? - she asks me, standing completely straight after a few seconds of my confession.
Max: What? - I ask confused and interested, although rather on the verge of having a nervous breakdown.
Y/n: Fuck everything.- she says and in less than two seconds I have her lips on mine.
I open my eyes completely surprised, feeling her hands on my waist and sticking herself as much as possible against my body. I don't move an inch, completely shocked, and she pulls away when I don't kiss her back.
Y/n: Are you okay? - she asks with concern. -If you don't want this, I'm sorry, I thought that with what you said and for...- she begins to say nervously, but I interrupt her by grabbing her neck with both hands and pulling her towards me to kiss again.
The blonde immediately kisses me back and I feel my whole body vibrate at the sensation of her lips against mine. I let out a small moan as her tongue makes contact with mine and my body trembles with pleasure.
My heart beats completely out of control, feeling the mint taste of her lips and the incredible smell of jasmine that comes from her hair enveloping me.
Her hands press hard against my lower back, pulling me in so our bodies are as close as posible without an inch between them. I move one of my hands to her hair, wrapping the silky blonde hair between my fingers and pulling it a little, earning me a very slight moan from the lips glued to mine.
But we were separated from each other like lightning, when we heard a knock on my bedroom door and heard my mother's voice.
Ellen: I'm coming in.- she says and I cover my lips with my hand when I see the swollen lips of the blonde.
Max: Do you need something? - I ask directly, feeling the vibrations and the heat of my body thanks to the excitement.
Ellen: I just came to ask if Y/n needs a blanket or something or if you'll sleep together.- she answers me with a small smile, looking between us and slightly raising her shoulders.
Max: And why is that? - I ask, although the question is addressed to the girl who is biting her lip and then to my mother.
Ellen: Because it's late and even though Y/n lives in the house across the street, I'll stay calmer if she sleeps here and because she's been waiting for almost two hours in school to congratulate you.- she answers me as if it were obvious and I look towards Y/n with wide eyes, completely shocked.
Max: She'll sleep with me, mom, don't worry. - I assure, stopping to stare at the blonde, who now finds herself with flushed cheeks and scratching her neck nervously.
After the first week of knowing her, I realized that when something bothers her or she is nervous, she scratches her necks and may even create wounds as a result.
Ellen: Perfect then, good night girls and rest.- she says goodbye with a smile, leaving my room and closing the door behind her back.
Max: Have you really waited for me almost two hours in school? - I ask between amused and touched watching as she crosses her arms and frowns.
Y/n: I don't know what you're talking about.- quickly denies, moving one of her hands and scratching her neck again.
Max: Yes, you know.- I confirm, biting my lips to avoid showing my smile and how delighted I am with it.
Y/n: Nope.- she denies and takes off her coat, leaving it on my hammock chair. -And now give me some clothes to sleep in because I'm sleepy.- says stretching her arm towards me.
Max: Bossy.- I mutter under my breath, walking towards my closet;,but one thing occurs to me and I end up in front of the door closing the lock.
