Aaah! I got another pic done of my halfling paladin, Karrigan Goodbarrel! This time in her new gear, with best girl Calla the brixashulty! I’m so happy with how they both came out! Karri looks so goooood ;A;
Artist is @maxxdick. They were awesome to work with! Fairly priced and super responsive, always happy to work in changes! I’d definitely recommend working with them if you want a nice picture of your OC or D&D character! tenouttaten.
A wonderful new(ish) commission of my baby girl, Ember. This was done by the amazingly sweet and talented @maxxdick ♥ I’m sorry it took so long for me to get this posted - this is truly amazing and I am so happy with how he captured her. She looks badass, her tattoos are gorgeous, her muscles are on point, and the details of her axe are absolutely ridiculous. Thank you SO much Maxx!
Happy New Year to you all. I hope 2019 brings you positivity, growth, and good times. :)
maxxdick replied to your post: Happy Valentine’s Day! I ate a chocolate heart!
Omg where from I desire
Deviant Desserts! It’s a one-woman chocolate company that makes all sorts of anatomically correct candies- hearts, teeth, skulls, tongues, severed ears, things i’m not allowed to post on Tumblr- as well as Very Fancy Cakes in horrible, horrible shapes.
I’d love to meet her IRL, she’s a woman after my own heart.
In this life where we spend most of our waking hours drudging through what must be done and grousing to each other about joint pain, our daily fun spot is dinnertime, and our favourite way of spending it is separately, dining at our monitors back-to-back, as we...drudge through dailies and grouse to each other about shitty drops. Well, we haven't MMO’d since my computer developed a problemTM sometime back, which was okay for a bit after we got bitterly disillusioned by Wildstar's changes (then demise but uh), but the itch has been building back over the previous year and increasingly hard to ignore. Instead of looking into getting my comp fixed and maybe shelling out for FFXIV subs like normal people, we decided to play our old City of Heroes characters with the mini TTRPG system we've been slowly polishing over the last few years like the penniless people still crying over CoH that we are. We primarily play our TTRPGs through GoogDocs so...that...counts as an MMORPG right...
This mini TTRPG system we’ve been working on: fundamentally we’re just really, really lazy people, who really, really love RP, so instead of sticking with any of the many TTRPG systems we’ve dabbled in to varying degrees of dissatisfaction, we read a ton of shit and wrote up a double-sided folded sheet’s worth of rules to easily set up and play (and simultaneously DM because there’re only two of us, but that’s optional) with because we’re really lazy people. The last time we trialed this was disastrous, because we got so obsessed with our cyberpulp campaign that time ceased to hold meaning, such that at 50k words we lost our nerves and bailed right before the final act, fearing we would never emerge. Good times. >_> Since our cyberpulp protagonists were just normal squishies (who in fact got into only one (1) fight in 50k words, where Maxx got tased five (5) times), this time round we decided to try a superhero-verse, figuring that dealing with superpowers would help finetune our modifiers and battle rules. It has proven immensely elucidatory so far - it’s been swell!
Anyway, all of that was just a long preamble to contextualise how our old CoH mains accidentally *killed a little old lady in their first TTRPG appearance (GM narration mostly @maxxdick and his diabolical talent for Unfortunate EventsTM through rolls at short notice) - now as illustrated here...! <_>:
ACT 1 SCENE 1
8pm: The Bronx has slid comfortably into night time - well, as comfortably as it gets, what with the honking cars and the cussing pedestrians. It's a bit of a mess at peak time when everyone's trying to get home, and ne'er-do-wells know that.
And so does any superhero in the vicinity with half a brain.
JUN:
"Half is an optimistic estimate," Espn mutters. He is hovering slightly above the trashcan in the alleyway they're lurking in. Hovering because he really doesn't want to touch it, but just hovering in the middle of nowhere felt gauche.
MAXX:
"Say what," Axn queries, but it isn't much of a question as he peers rudimentarily out of the alleyway like a bad Pink Panther cartoon, "well, good to know the city's looking safe. I mean, spare the hucksters and stuff, but who really falls for that ring scam twice?"
JUN:
"I wonder."
[ Is something happening? Roll: Yes, no conditions.
Is it crime? Roll: No, no conditions. ]
There is, however, a little old lady struggling with some shopping while she's trying to cross the street. Her oranges are threatening to make an escape.
MAXX:
" - hEY," he exclaims, squinting with a hand over his eyes, "a civilian in need of help. Let's do this. One of us takes her stuff, the other one helps her across. How about that?"
JUN:
"I will," Espn sighs, dehovering, "take her stuff. Have you considered maybe we don't need costumes to do this?"
There was once a time he would have persisted in arguing that unregistered vigilantes should really lay low. That time was about two months ago.
MAXX:
"What, and be recognised for our heroism? Nah," and he was starting towards her waiting at the crossing, in tights and all, weaving through the crowd.
The little old lady looks back just in time to see a tall spandex-suited figure clamour its way towards her, and gasps a little when he settles right next to her at the light. She looks away - this is New York, she's not sure why she's still surprised by this stuff.
MAXX:
"Ma'am," he puffs, oblivious to the fact she probably thinks he's a pervert, "please let me help you across the street. My partner will be along to take your groceries."
JUN:
Espn reaches for her groceries.
[ Granny's MIND against Axn's SOCIAL: 8 vs 5 ]
The little old lady gasps harder, but this time with Full Offense.
"Excuse me," she rolls off her tongue, "I'm not old enough to fall for this 'help an old lady cross the street and have you steal my groceries' scam! You don't even know what I've been through, you -"
One bag swings towards Espn, and the other towards Axn, like a spinning tornado of angry old lady.
[ Roll for fight initiative: Axn - 17, Espn - 10 ]
MAXX:
Axn's first instinct is to dodge out of the trajectory.
JUN:
Espn kicks back into a hover, ideally out of the way.
[ Attack roll (Granny's BODY) vs Defense roll (Axn's DEXTERITY): CRIT FAIL vs NAT 20
Attack roll (Granny's BODY) vs Defense roll (Espn's DEXTERITY): 9 vs 13+1=14 but this is really irrelevant now ]
That was too much for Granny. It turns out she is, indeed, old enough, and perhaps too old, as she keels over in a - heart attack?! Her oranges and other unnamed groceries fall to the floor. The human traffic around them almost stop but think the better of it as she lies at their feet.
JUN:
"Congratulations, you killed a little old lady," Espn says, hurriedly pulling his phone out of his suit, "I'm calling an ambulance, but we'd better get out of here before anyone official shows up."
MAXX:
"Oh my god," he says faintly, picking both her and her groceries up, "I...uh....do you think electric shocks might help any?"
He elects to get to the less populated side of a building, speeding up to get through the crowd.
[ Axn's DEXTERITY vs DC-10: 19+1=20 - Success ]
"Little old lady" and "heart attack" turned out to be pretty good keywords, and an ambulance is coming rapidly through evening traffic.
JUN:
Espn does not want to be hauled in for questioning in a dodgy skintight costume. He turns on his hover and kicks up, aiming to get away over the roof of the nearest building.
MAXX:
Whoop, his buddy's gone, and he should be too. Whispering "sorry" to their unintended victim, he starts on his heel, going in for the alleyway as quickly as he can.
The paramedics close in on the collapsed heap of old lady, with her oranges and groceries gathered about her in neatly tied bags. Who were her assailants? Nobody really knew, and the wailing of sirens disappeared with the waves of traffic down the Bronx.
Featuring the male-presenting nipples, the angry alicorn pony, and the kinkshamed cake that Tumblr’s new content bot found far too offensive.

A Fallen London and Sunless Seas collection of art drawn by @maxxdick! The Bloody Advocate, his wife the Roofdrawn Den Mother, his zee faring friend the Unassuming Zailor, a peer and rival the Explosive Scholar, his adopted daughter Pip, and his newly minted (and gravely troubling) rival the Crystalline Captain. I have been commissioning Maxx for over a year now (probably two) and though he has created many pieces for me, the Fallen London set is by far my most expansive and well fleshed out available, the game itself holding a dear place in my heart for inspiring me to write once more.
Tagged by @maxxdick, who I haven’t talked to in far too long.

Relationship status: Wedded to my career. We’re quite happy. This is us:
Lipstick or Chapstick: Both, actually. The lipsticks I like are rather drying (curse you, mattes!).
Last Song I Listened To: “The Man Who Sold the World” (David Bowie). Specifically the 1979 SNL video version with Klaus Nomi. I’d just gotten done explaining who Klaus Nomi was- longish story, a friend had shared a thing with a picture of the Marquis de Sade and I said that he kinda looked like Klaus Nomi’s long-lost grandpa and then it turned out that said friend had no idea who Klaus Nomi was, so I had to share the Lightning Strikes video and then that reminded me of the Man Who Sold The World tuxedo thing and so of course I had to go listen to that, I’ll never not listen to David Bowie.
Last Movie I Watched: Pacific Rim- I like to watch that with Juju. It’s so funny, she looks up every time they say the word “kaiju,” which is very, very frequent.
Top 3 Characters: Captain Janeway (Star Trek: Voyager), Death (Sandman), Sam Vimes (Discworld)
Top Three Ships: This is actually the hardest question here. I have a lot of crack ships, each one more hilarious and improbable than the next, but like, fictional relationships I’m actually invested in and enjoy experiencing are more frequently than not super strong friendships because I am an absolute sucker for created families- people adopting sibling roles, parent roles, coming to see this stranger they’ve been thrown together with as somebody they really care about. So these are my top three relationships- not just romantic relationships.
If I had to think about the fictional relationship that means the most to me, it’s the relationship between Kathryn Janeway and her crew from Star Trek: Voyager- specifically her friendship with Tuvok. Spoilers for a 20+ year old TV show: in the last episode, she unmakes reality to save her best friend’s mind. (And for many other reasons both personal and tactical, but Tuvok’s dementia is one of the most compelling reasons and the one that’s explored most in the show.) It’s quickly followed by the relationship between Ben Sisko and Jadzia Dax on DS9- that kind of loving, playful friendship that’s closer to siblinghood than anything else is something that I really enjoy watching.
As far as romantic ships go, they’re usually kinda fleeting depending on the media. I suppose that Garak/Bashir from DS9 holds a really special place in my heart (there’s this one fanfic, Letters from the Northern Continent, that makes me go all dokidoki). Although there is one that I’ve been all about for... jesus christ, over a decade now. I’ve been shipping this goddamn pairing for eleven years at this point. How do I make the letters tiny so that you don’t see that I still haven’t gotten over my first weeb ship from high school? Will I ever be over Integra/Alucard? (Probably not, we all have our vices after all.)
