4 days left to Good Omens 3 ✨
Just got it today. Isn't it a wonderful Friday 13th?
Also, I wanted to talk about the Aziraphale's fall theory.
We all know that Aziraphale’s character arc will ultimately be about him becoming completely disillusioned with Heaven and its order. Something significant has to happen. Something that would truly break him and shatter his faith entirely. Crowley already bears a wound in his heart shaped like God, while Aziraphale’s has only continued to burn deeper over those same 6,000 years.
But if it's really going to happen, then what consequences it can bring?
I saw a theory on the YouTube channel “sendarya” suggesting that lying, attachment to material things, doubt, and so on are sins - but not unforgivable ones. The unforgivable sin is a direct rebellion against God. Acting against Her will is a sin as well, but again, not an unforgivable one. The unforgivable sin would be something like cursing Her name.
When Sitis, Job’s wife, said:
— If my children are dead, then I curse God!
Crowley immediately stepped in, saying:
— That never ends well.
The reason Aziraphale has not fallen yet, despite committing many sins, lies in the fact that he has mostly blamed himself rather than God. Like Job, when the Lord’s wrath came down upon him, he looked for the fault within himself, not in Her.
Crowley, on the other hand, was likely a true rebel. He saw nothing wrong in his views or his opinions, took part in the War, and fell.
It seems to me that in the third season, something has to happen that would completely destroy Aziraphale’s faith in Heaven and in God. I don’t know exactly what that would be. But if it does happen, what would await him then?
In s1 e1, we see this dialogue:
It seems to me that this is the first indication of what might happen. There isn’t really anything else like this in the first season, so let’s move straight on to the second.
In the second season, in the episode about Job, after the successful temptation, the following dialogue takes place:
And then Crowley says "see you in hell."
At that moment, the storm outside the window intensified.
That’s how it all started for Crowley. With doubt. Also the phrase "see you in hell"...
Plus in season 2 we can see that most of characters calls Aziraphale as "mister Fell". I think I don't need to explain this
To be honest, I don’t really like this theory, but it does have some supporting evidence. I don’t like it because it would most likely destroy the main theme of Good Omens, which is about shades of grey and the absence of sides as the best possible outcome.
But perhaps it would make Aziraphale understand Crowley’s pain, and at the same time it would break them both. Honestly, I don’t see any other path that could lead to a relatively good ending - especially considering that the “becoming human” theory has already been debunked by Neil (and honestly, that theory is nonsense too).
I hope that I'm wrong because I love Aziraphale too much. He has been my favorite character for 5 years, and I can’t stop associating him with myself… Gosh I won't survive this month—

El problema con los ansiosos es que cuando le gusta alguien, se imagina que a él también le gusta de la misma manera.
