Liking Maya and Zatz together doesn’t seem as silly or childish if you remember the timeframe of the whole show is anywhere from 9 months to a year and the writing crew only get to portray that in 9 rushed episodes. *mild spoilers-* Timeframe given from the fact Queen Teca both got pregnant and had her children during the span of the show

It could’ve been done better yeah, but it’s not like it was bad for the time they had, and plus, you can imagine as much development as you want now because they’ll be spending eternity together :) (threatening)

K so I have a headcanon for a Maya x Zatz fanchild based on some research into Aztec mythology I did last night:

Maybe a daughter based on the goddess Itzpapalotl? She is described as being part of a group of star demons (she wouldn’t be a demon here though) which descend to the Earth during solar eclipses (fitting with her parents). She is also called “the obsidian butterfly”, which some historians think the Aztecs also called bats (could serve as a nod to Zatz) and one of her symbols is the Orizaba moth, native to Mexico (adding a unique species to her familial mix so there wouldn’t be need to choose between a bird or a bat).
