Why am I white? I'm Jewish, I'm Irish, I'm European, I'm an unknowable number of other little bits and pieces patched and stitched together through the ages.

Yet I'm none of these, I have an accent no one recognizes, my homeland a place I avoid, no community to call my own. The traditions the elders try to pass are of crosses, and cartoons of saints and bunnies. My own parents reject these and so do I, but I have nothing to replace it with...I long for that feeling of belonging, of being a white sheep.
