Summary: A re-imagining of the First War, wherein Remus never went to Hogwarts and instead runs a pro-werewolf, alternative paper, and Sirius is a lonely barfly, and they are both wary of starting something serious together while the war is on - but then the war ends.

Comments: I don’t know quite what to say but I loved this entirely. Remus is outspoken; he knows how he feels and what he wants and I felt as enamored with him as Sirius was. The author, in very few, incredibly well-written words, also evokes that revolutionary, rage-filled emotion of the first war. I am definitely adding this to my list of favorites. <3

#mayfestrecs - Day 10 Fest: Remus Lupin Fest

Summary: Sirius didn’t realise how much he relied upon his best friend (and took him for granted) until he was replaced. With a dog.

Comments: Sirius is so hilariously spot-on as he gets furiously jealous over the new dog stealing all of Remus’s attention. Honestly, this was so great. I liked the way it showed both the warm and comfortable relationship between Remus and Sirius and the deep pining and unresolved tension (obvious to everyone but themselves). Funny, well-written, and heartwarming.

Summary: King of the low-down, lord of mud and everything beneath the surface—Remus Lupin is the king of sordid exchanges happening under the Death Eaters’ noses. Nobody has ever been able to make a feint at him and survive to tell the tale. But when an intruder drops in, unexpected and wholly disarming, everything tilts just so on its axis and might tumble the lot of it to ash.

Comments: God damn was that intense. I’m so here for powerful, mob boss Remus, and the gritty, magical underworld is fantastic. That interrogation, though...like I don’t even know what to say, it was full of such delicious tension.

Summary: There are probably easier and faster ways of showing one's affection than learning how to knit so one can make the object of said affections a jumper. Fortunately, Sirius has never been fond of picking the easy route.

Comments: This is soft and cute and fluffy and just wonderful.

Comments: Awww, Sirius is adorably cute and awkward as he tries to flirt with Remus, the pizza delivery boy. Lots of lovely, fluffy goodness.

Summary: Remus is the valet to Lord Black’s son, Sirius. The future heir to the Most Ancient and Nobel House of Black drags Remus into the world of High Society. Remus experiences everything he had always dreamed of but he gets far more than he expects.

Comments: I feel like I’m being spoiled with all these wonderful historical!AUs; this one is even inspired by The Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue. I literally couldn’t ask for more. The valet/master dynamic made things interesting but not angsty, and there was lots of beautiful pining on both sides. It was fun to see all of the European cities, too. Overall, delightful.

#mayfestrecs - Day 29 Fest: Wolfstar Big Bang 2018

Author/Artist: shoebox_addict / PukingPastilles Rating: Mature Word Count: 75,212 Eras: MWPP / Post-Hogwarts

Summary: In the summer of 1976, Remus Lupin and Sirius Black finally stopped circling each other. Then the war began and turned their lives upside down.

Comments: A canon-compliant epic, spanning their last years at Hogwarts and the first war. The dialogue and detail were fantastic, making it easy to become wrapped up in the world. As a lover of Marauder’s era stories, the first part was my favorite, and I was particularly pleased at how casual and stress-free their coming out and get together was. Of course, angst and suspicion seep into their lives during the first war, but it was nice that the fic ended with a hopeful epilogue. And the art was absolutely beautiful.
