Kapela Maliszów is a family musical trio from the town of Męcina Mała, Poland that performs Polish folk music. Much of the groups repertoire consists of the Mazurek (Mazurka) genre.
The Mazurek was imported into western Europe in the 19th century and became very popular in parts of Spain, France, Portugal, Italy, the Netherlands, Belgium, and Ireland. From Spain, France, the Netherlands, and Portugal it spread to Latin America and the Caribbean, Africa, and Asia and now is considered part of the traditional music and dance of countries such as Cape Verde, Puerto Rico, Brazil, the Philippines, Peru, Curaçao, Cuba, Nicaragua, and Mexico - in these countries it most often syncretized with local folk elements.
