I have a confession to make
Retold is here (that is not the confession, btw)!
Have you downloaded it yet? Here is your chance! Read Retold Now
Retold is a dark Regency romance collection that includes a Hades and Persephone retelling, a Peter Pan retelling and a Rapunzel retelling.
And it just came out!
Actual footage from scenes in the book:
Retold includes three dark and sparkling romantic stories inspired by myths, folklore and fairytales, as well as by the glittering world and the roguish gentlemen of Regency London.
They might look like quick, fun reads, but don’t be fooled: these stories are going to break your heart into a million pieces.
It is dark, snarky and absolutely vexing.
Tropes:
-Enemies to Lovers
-Pirates being lethally silly
-Tortured boys that you want to protect
-Found family
-I have everybody but you
-Forced (really forced) proximity
-I outwardly hate you but I will murder everyone with a spoon if they so much as look at you wrong
-Cats (yeah it’s a trope ok)
-Wet shirts on dudes who look like Greek statues
-Strong heroines who become stronger
-Grumpy/sunshine
-Hate (REALLY hate) to love
-We were friends as children and then there was torturous slow-burn but then we hated each other and now what are you doing asking me to dance with you?
-So many scenes inspired from Kdramas (sorry not sorry)
-I’m looking at you from across a room and melting. No, dying. And you don’t know I exist.
-Bad boy falling for the preacher’s daugher. (And by bad boy I mean Hades)
-Kidnapping
-Hades and Persephone yumminess
-Cheekbones
-Neck cloths (those that are super white, and end up just underneath the Adam’s apple, you know the type.) Ugh.
-”I love you, you idiot!” (in Rory Gilmore’s voice)
-I think I should stop.
Actual footage of the first 2 persons to read it:
Yeah. It’s like that.
Anyway, retold is a stand-alone Regency romance novel.

My review: 5 STARS I picked this up because I loved the first book, I adored the world Frank had created, as well as the characters. This book picks up almost immediately after the first one ends. Ru and Robin are both in the fight for their lives. I adored Frank's way with words, I love the way she weaves the words into an enthralling story. I am very much looking forward to the third instalment. The book ends leaving you desperate for more, highly recommended! SALT FOR AIR BY M.C. FRANK | ?????
So this is less of a review and more of a... pre-review? Yes, a pre-review.
I’ve never read any of M.C. Frank and I’m not really sure how I found her on instagram, but I’m glad I did! All of her previous books are currently available on Kindle Unlimited and I fully intend to read them once I get through the books I currently have checked out from there and I’m SO excited to be able to bring to you this picture and some info on her newest novel, Salt for Air.
M.C. Frank has described her novel as ‘Greek mythology meets The Little Mermaid in this delicious fantasy novel about a quiet, nerdy girl who meets a merman in her bathroom.’
Personally, I love Greek mythology and retellings so I can't wait to read Salt for Air and to share my thoughts on it and the bookshoot I had with the cover.
You can check out the video trailer for Salt for Air on youtube and don’t forget to pre-order on Amazon or to add to your TBR list on Goodreads!
You can also follow M.C. Frank on instagram and on tumblr.
I WAS GIVEN A FREE ARC OF THIS STORY BY THE AUTHOR IN EXCHANGE FOR AN HONEST REVIEW
Review Posted: 10/20/18 Release Date: 10/23/18
Book: Salt For Air Series: Standalone (for now) Author: M.C. Frank Pages: 244 Rating: ★★☆☆☆ (2/5) Recommendation: If you like mermaids, Greek mythology, fanfic style writing, clichés Pre-Order Link: amzn.to/2Ltd5T7 Signed Copies Giveaway: https://bit.ly/2M78pOl
Synopsis:
Seventeen-year-old Ellie dreams of mermen. She writes fanfiction about them and spends time in underwater kingdoms in her imagination, trying to escape the sad reality: she is an orphan. And not only that, but she’s bullied every day at school -she’s a nerd, she hates sports, she loves books and she used to be overweight. What’s not to bully? One day, the bullies go too far. They try to drown her, but at the last minute an otherworldly creature shows up in the water. He keeps her breathing and tells her to live: "How will you be able to save anyone if you can't even save yourself?" She thinks it was a dream, but the emerald-eyed merman boy who rescued her appears in her school the next day. Is he really the exiled prince of an ancient kingdom that's on the brink of utter destruction? And is he asking her to save him? Or is something far more sinister and deadly lurking in the water that surrounds her little Greek town? When myth and reality collide, can love save their lives?
My Opinion:
It read like a fanfic. The MC was constantly talking to the reader which is something I am not a fan of
I just didn’t really like any of the characters at all
Lots of clichés like insta-love, love to hate to love to hate
It was an interesting plot and I did like a lot of aspects of the original mythology
There were definitely some good and interesting twists along the way (mostly at the end)

Salt for Air official trailer - cover+pub date reveal
No matter how much people say booklr is dead or problematic or whatever, I will always be grateful for it because I run across random books like this! Chubby MC who writes and daydreams about mermaids! This whole thing sounds like the author crawled into my brain and went “Hey, I’m gonna write a story about this!”
