in honor of David Bowie's birthday
My favorite street art find from my Chicago days:

I don't have pictures from the exhibition but I can say that it was amazing to have the audio guide tied to your location in the gallery. I heard the opening bars of Starman and then turned the corner to see this iconic performance on Top of the Pops:

I cried. It was the most transcendent museum experience of my life. And I worked in museums for 15 years.
If I had been born less than an hour earlier I'd share a birthday with him. But how lucky I am to have walked this earth at the same time as Bowie (and so many other musicians that bring joy).
My 2014 photo Petal—shot on my iPhone 5s—is currently on display at the Northbrook Public Library! On the 1st floor, in the section where, according to the Northbrook Arts Commission, all the special pieces are ;) (the Northbrook Originals exhibition spans the entire library, with works on all three floors). Last night was the artist reception, and it was so lovely, mainly because of who recognized/came up to me: a high school friend's mom! And then my junior high art teacher! I hadn't seen the former in ~20 years, and the latter in 25!(!) I loved her class and afterschool art club. What a wonderful full circle moment. (And of course I still addressed both as Mrs. <Last Name> 😄 How could you not?) Anyway, the show is up through May 31; go check it out! // (c) Jenny Lam 2026
