Creating Some Excitement
If you ever look at the ‘About the Author’ information on the back of a book, or inside the cover, it will more often than not tell you what that person did before they were a writer. Mine, for example, will tell you I was an academic. An environmental scientist, to be precise. With a Ph.D. and everything! Me and my microscope… going back a few years! Of course, as an academic, I was required…

Kuskulana Bridge Crossing by Mark Stevens Via Flickr: It was passed on to me to go on the underside of this bridge, exploring the area and seeing the bridge from this view. Most who go to see it don't seem to think about that view, so I was told. I did...and wow! For this photo, I wanted to capture the expanse of the bridge crossing of the canyon. I got up close to one edge and took this wide angle shot. By standing next to the bridge, it gave an even larger perspective which I visualized. For PP, I used Color Control Points in Capture NX2 to work on the shadows, both on the bridge and far off trees. Taken at Wrangell-St. Elias National Park & Preserve, Alaska.
A Morning View of Mountains and a Lake by Mark Stevens Via Flickr: Another roadside stop while on the drive, leaving Wrangell-St Elias National Park & Preserve. I loved how the mountains and blue skies with clouds added this backdrop to the lake view. Taken at Wrangell-St. Elias National Park & Preserve, Alaska.
Seeing Crystal Lake through an Opening in the Trees by Mark Stevens Via Flickr: I pulled off the road here to take in this clearing in the trees. I decided to use the trees to frame the view of the lake and mountains behind. The skies were clearing and gave a nice contrast to the view below. Taken at Wrangell-St. Elias National Park & Preserve, Alaska.
Looking up under a Bridge by Mark Stevens Via Flickr: After taking so many photos looking at and along the Gilahina Trestle, I decided to look up and captured this one. It was the intricate connections of the wood beams, faded over time. For PP work, I used Capture NX2 to work to bring out the colors hidden in the shadows of the photo. I then used a Low Key CEP filter to bring back a more realistic feel of the colors present. Taken at Wrangell-St. Elias National Park & Preserve, Alaska.
Wildflowers and Trees near the Gilahina Trestle by Mark Stevens Via Flickr: One of many photos I took in and under the bridge. As I walked under it, I noticed the wildflowers growing and decided to capture it by getting down low and then looking and upward across the side of the bridge. Taken at Wrangell-St. Elias National Park & Preserve, Alaska.
