eyes emoji: can you tell us about the sunlit slums?
The deepest parts of the underground nation are reserved for those who can afford to live there. To live far below the surface is seen as a luxury; it is the ultimate symbol of status. Only a minority of the Karstemese population lives here. Most live in the sunlit slums—so named because of the closeness of the slums to the surface of the earth.
It wasn’t always this way. The gods are said to live at the very core of the earth; before the revolution, under the old monarchy, it was seen as a religious experience to travel to the deepest point and worship. It used to be possible not just to travel there, but to build an entire life close to the divine. Now, however, the wealthy dislike the idea of opening their gated communities, fearful of thieves and murderers and—of course—a loss in status.
In the bustling marketplaces of the slums, you might discover veteran rebels who will tell you this is not the future any of them intended. You might recognize the faces of disgraced nobles who have since changed their names and taken up trades. You might hear whispers of another revolution—and then realize a street urchin has nabbed your coin purse.
yoooooo headcanon thing for mcgonagall plspls
Minerva lives in a small cottage, completely overgrown with vines, on the outskirts of a muggle town. It has one room stuffed with books, so much she had to use an extension charm to have them all fit. She has one cupboard filled with tea that her old students send her from all over the world, and another one with the cards and letters they write to her.
She also has a bunch of wild cats that come visit her when she’s home during the school holidays, and when she’s at Hogwarts she has a Squib girl live in her home to make sure that it stays properly lived in, and to give the girl the opportunity to learn more about the magical world she’s not allowed to be a part of.
Okay but if Minerva loved her time at Hogwarts so much can you imagine how happy Hogwarts was to have her back as a teacher
Could you do Minerva McGongall?
Minerva actually never saw herself as a teacher. She wanted to be a researcher, writing new Transfiguration theories. When her first three attempts at publishing them failed because “no one wants to read magical theory written by a woman, Minerva”, she accepted the teaching job, and took Dumbledore’s suggestion to publish them again under a male alias. When those theories got praised for being so innovative and well thought-out, she stepped forward as being the author, and completely shook up the male-dominated world of magical theory.
