I’m not a teenanger anymore, but when I think about High School settings on fiction, I think about anime/manga like After the Rain, Ao Haru Ride, Itazura Na Kiss; I think on stories that are cute and soft and colorful, stories that are silly and funny and light hearted, while is also true that some of those stories also deal with challenging themes that not necessarily completely darker the tone of those stories. Those are the kind of stories that sometimes make me go “My 16 y/o past self would have enjoyed this so much” because those make me nostalgic about the person that I used to be, but also I think they are wonderful to have a blast, to forget about the present and my reality and immerse myself in those stories. 

Is the kind of thoughts I have while thinking about this new MCL HS game and the things I personally like to see. I didn’t grow with it in the conventional way that many people did playing HS because I was already older, but definitely I’m a different person that what I used to be in my early twenties. I invested myself on this game on my own degree, but I didn’t think the game was absolutely perfect. There were several times I questioned and still ended brushing all that and kept enjoying it for what it was. There was a moment when I got caught with the game (two years later of joining) that was bored so I explored other otome games. I think by that time, me and a lot of people had many expectations for MCL about the kind of things we wanted to see coming and that sadly never happened in HS. I sometimes replay and depending of the episode, I sometimes see that some episodes resulted very boring that what they used or I sometimes came to appreciate little details that I didn’t notice before. Is true that despite the imperfections, it was a game that was made with heart.

So i’m sceptical about how this new game will play because everyone notices how all the games got a shift of tone in the last three years, so it makes it really hard for me to think they would pull this successfully and that they will deliver something that I actually would like to play. I also think this dark tone was becoming a bit of signature for the company and the creator and from that, I can see their High School game turning into something like Kisshou Tennyo that is also a story that happens in high school but with a lot of dark and challenging themes but that was crafted really well in how the mystery was builded and that is also very polarizing but gets away with it.

When University Life came, I actually liked the change of tone because I now enjoy more mature and darker themes but the heartbreak from that time made it hard to get through (also the first five episodes are really long and boring so no wonder why some people would drop it). It really was a reboot. That experiment came with a price. If I think about the positives, UL got us a lot of things that people really wanted in HS:

We got more dates at the beach

We have an actual cute date alone with the crush

we got an actual follow up and making the relationship oficial

We went to the fair with all our friends

We got a second date and an sexy first time

We when to more parties and a concert and was fun

We get a love declaration and a happy end where we move with the crush

Those are things that really mattered to me and make me happy but that it make me feel that I was robbed of so much fun because the took my crush away. 

I also admit that there was a lot of drama for the sake of drama, some drama could have worked perfect if it was haddle in a different way like Rosa’s pregnancy: one of my friends was a single mom when I was in college, my boss got pregnant too when she was in college, sure that's a life changing experience, but that miscarriage right from the bat was really too much. It something that happen but it's not something you expect in a dating sim. Same issue with Nathaniel and Amber, drugs and addiction are an issue, I was surprised that people was getting polarized with alcohol but drugs were untouched in college when is also something pretty common at that age. The drug Cartel was a ridiculous exaggeration, I don’t know how the creators look at that and think “yes, this is my master creation, i'm so clever”. I also think the episode with poor Candy running around to find a printer was the worse forced drama ever created in this game, was so unnecessary. Same with Candy fainting in class was so poorly executed and It didn’t make sense for more than one specific route.

I rejected Love Life right from the bat because as an adult, I was dreading playing a game that would remind me about the struggles of being and adult. The thing that got me interested was the cheating part (a common subject) but I was disappointed that it happened at the end of the season and was more disappointing how the ending of the season revolved more around getting the married proposal and all the drama with the cheating and all the variations crafted from there. I find this kind of ridiculous because the most interesting part was just drama for the sake of drama, to the point they cutted some logical options (Saying Yes or No to the proposal and If you didn’t wanted to go the cheating route, ending the relationship clean because lack of compatibility/low lov’meter).It really didn’t matter at the end how many bad options you picked if there is not big consequences for the alternate endings, it feels lazy on that part.

Ya’ll we’re mad at Beemoov, but please don’t be mean to each other. Whether you like the changes or hate them, please don’t send hate to other players. It won’t help anything and just add toxicity to the fanbase.

Personal thoughts

Castiel girls Must have patience and nothing else . Even i at the end of the episode i was angry about his words, because beemoov as always choose to put this changment to fast and you don’t have the time to move on and chill . I don’t anyway forgive his words , because they were to heavy .

Even if i get it they were mostly because he’a still angry and hurt about the broke up.. In fact i was surprised in the episode 5 he was so nice with us . Castiel is complicate but he has a golden heart, he’s deeply in love with candy, his problem is just the Comunication.

.in fact he has told us in HSL that he sucks a lot and prefer to show his feelings in his songs, which are pretty touching. Now in MCLUL he’s always the same grumpy cat with a lot of problems with the comunication. He just want some freedom which is the first sign you can see in his description.. He can’t stand to recieve orders , with fame you’ve to recieve orders .. No matter what you want..

That’s why i understand perfectly why he wants not to plan at last his relationship .. Which is not because he wants to have fun .. But beacause : If you’re his ex , he doesn’t want to suffer again and because it’s to soon right now( and i am agree with it .. In fact i didn’t want neither i yet the kiss in the 10th episode , but now is happen ).. If you’re new, because he felt the pressure for the fame, he has a lot of thoughts in his mind and doesn’t want run to much with it . ( add the fact this whole mess is happen because castiel hasn’t got the time to explain the whole thing of “ yess i ‘ve kiss you but i want to take things with calm.”.. Which was better to do it in the last episode , not in the episode 11.. And that’s why it sounded at rhe beginning mean )

What i want to say is this : castiel is not for everyone, even i , i don’t love to much his career because for another topic , which is the long distance relationship .. Actually i am worried how beemoov will treat it knowing the motivation with the last broke up between them. But i don’t want to worry about it, i know i’ll have “ the happy ending” or at last i am hoping so .

-In conclusion his behavoir is influenced a lot about the fame pressure , which ‘ll be his arc for Several episode i am assuming.

- he loves a lot candy, but he’s still afraid about the thing” i have a girlfriend”.. Not because he’s a fuckboy, but because he doesn’t want to suffer again .

- he build walls between fame and relathionships, because with the last one he doesn’t want to think and at last want to breath.

- no matter what , he loves her a lot, in fact he’s jealous and have contradictory attitude , when candy is around.. Mostly because neither him knows what to do.

- he just want some peace and a sort of relax far away from the responsabilities .. Considering yet when he was a child he had a lot of stuff to Stand.

- cleary who follow his route should know that yes he’s complicatee but his past and now experiance has sign him a lot.. This is one of the main reason he’ll make us go crazy

- i am expecting so : a lot of drama, castiel’s mental break up, a hard and last try to build again a relationship(ex) or at last try again to love someone ( new girl).

I guess now that i know, i am pretty ready to be with him, no matter what , i’ll be always with him( cheating aside this is the only thing i can’t stand.. After the fact i am still here after 7 years i am following his route i can support everything )

Thoughts

Some of these “improvements” are good but on the other hand : Why did they have to lower the amount of daily AP? Apparently 30 AP is considered... too much? I don’t understand, we’re already having a hard time saving up AP, you had to lower it even more. Those “Episode Bonuses” are so unfair to people who are up-to-date with the episodes. We ALSO spent many many AP during the first 5 episodes. Anyways, it’s always give and take with them.
