I don't think it can be underestimated how committed Tom Hiddleston is to the Loki head/hair flick
My little sister is currently crying after watching CA:TFA, because Steve and Peggy don’t get to dance.
The following conversation is me attempting to make her feel better but she hates Thor.
Me: “You get to see Loki in the next movie?” (She really likes Loki)
Sister: “I hate Thor”
Me: “He gets better.”
Sister: “He can’t. He’s cemented to rock bottom.”
Backstory: I’m rewatching all the MCU films in release order with my sisters (it’s their first time seeing them)
Watched:
Iron Man 1
Iron Man 2
Thor
Captain America: The First Avenger
"You'll always be the God Of Mischief. But you could be so much more."
Thor to Loki, Thor Ragnarok
Oh the foreshadowing 😢
My mum was staying with me two weekends ago for a couple days and randomly I just decided to put Shang Chi on in the background while we were doing stuff and she locked in. Loved it. Then she wanted to see the behind the scenes Assembled thing. Then wanted to watch the film again right away. Then we watched Wakanda Forever and the Assembled for that. Loved it. (I cried a lot)
Then the next day when Dad was picking her up, she said 'Oh put that Shang Chi on again for Dad'. Cue it for the 3rd time. Then the day after that, she texts me to say 'Hehe guess what I'm watching again?' Gee mum I have no idea!
Anyway, it's been just over a week since that now, and Mum and Dad have watched 16 MCU films? They went back to Phase 1 (i had to explain the phases and how to find the order in Disney+)
All this to say, I was at their place yesterday when they were up to Civil War, and Dad says "I like the one with the wings. It's nifty how they zoom back in and out like that." And internally I'm just like 🥹😅🤭😭
You mean Sam? Absolute angel and most perfect boy Sam? Stay calm. Look normal. Don't smile too much. Breathe.
"That's Sam, remember? Falcon. He's my favourite."
Success. Totally normal. Stop smiling whenever Sam and Bucky are on-screen together. Ahhh!
I’ve always loved how Tony literally just treated Bruce like a human instead of a monster, like they are instantly best friends
It's entirely unintentional but watching all these MCU movies in a row has this funny effect where various minor humor scenes with Natasha, when combined, really give the impression that her teammates don't know or care as much about her as she does about them :(
Against my better judgment, I decided to rewatch Thor Love and Thunder, and while I did find more to like this time around, it did not change my overall feelings on it.
They totally wasted Christian Bale, who gave a mostly great performance as Gorr, but was given nothing to work with and had almost no screen time. Thor was incredibly mischaracterized and at the start of the movie, had backslid to the arrogant child, who fights and destroys thoughtless and carelessly just for the sake of battle. Much closer to Thor 1 when he wasn't worthy to wield Mjolnir, than Infinity War or the end of Endgame, the more matured, warrior, who would do anything to fight for and protect his people. And there are hints of that character still there, just buried under all the shit and anytime it starts to come out, its just as quickly gone.
Taikas comedy has never really worked for me, it was better in Ragnarok, but here its so grading. Korg was obnoxious, I didnt like any of the running bits, like Jane's catchphrase, the sentient Mjolnir/Stormbreaker jealousy thing, and the stupid fucking goats. Thinking screaming goats are THAT funny in the big '22 is insane, it was literally like every 15 minutes. Practically every scene felt like it went on like too long. There were several moments where I thought "if I was scrolling through deleted scenes and saw this one, id get why" because they just pad the scene with a joke that doesnt serve the scenes or the characters. They could have cut a bunch of jokes and used that time to expand on Gorr.
There were actually a few scenes where the dialog was written well, especially with the other Gods, but the performances dont treat it with the tone that it deserves. Like the scene at the beginning with Gorr and his God. The dialog works and effectively portrays Rapu as cruel and uncaring of his followers. Like where Gorr says "theres no one left to worship" and Rapu says "There will always be more". But the performance makes it feel like a caricature. It doesnt carry the weight that a God should carry. Same thing with Zeus, he has some good lines, but he feels like an SNL skit.
Credit where its due tho. There were some things I liked. There were some really great shots, especially of the locations. The planet at the beginning had some great visuals and the shadow realm was stunning, Im a sucker for black and white being cut through with the color from the lightning and magic. I liked almost everything with Jane, I thought the cancer storyline was well done and taken seriously for the most part, her friendship with Valkyrie was fun, and her suit looked great. The combat was overall pretty solid. The standouts were definitely Mjolnir being able to split into pieces and reform when recalled, and the fight in the shadow realm. And there was exactly one joke that actually got a real laugh out of me, being the Asgardian guy saying "Half of our army is always dead"
Bucky is so witty in the first avenger but they had to nerf my boys humor so their faves could look funnier
