So I saw your post about sea salt soaks and helix piercings and I am curious about helix piercings. Do helix piercings hurt a lot? My pain tolerance could be higher and I want to get one in the future. I had my ear lobes done when I was about 11 or 12 (though they healed up) but I've heard that helix piercings hurt a lot more. Thanks!!
Hello! Ok so I’ve had four non-lobe ear piercings, two helix, a forward helix and a conch. I would tag pics but I’m on my ipad so I can’t. I will be honest with you; the healing process is more painful than lobe and quite simply it is harder work, you have to be vigilant about not touching them and if you catch them it is much much more uncomfortable than a lobe.
but the actual process of needle-through-cartilage? not as bad as some people think. It is more of a ‘burning’ than a pain, lots of piercers use different things to numb your skin but I prefer nothing - I want my skin to be clean and free of chemicals if someone is making a hole in it. Once it’s done, the most painful/annoying part is def getting used to sleeping on it! But I’ve had my first helix over three years now, I was sixteen and once you get used to it it’s fine. If you’re thinking of getting one, go to a good piercer, don’t be frightened to turn around and walk straight out the door if its not good enough, and a few obvious things - many sure the needle is new (ie the piercer takes it out of a packet and disposes it immediately after into a sharps bin), jewellery the same, and that they’re wearing gloves, simple things really but super important. also; sea salts are great but you shouldn’t need to clean it every day - your body is meant to heal and adapt to it and cleaning it every day doesn’t give it the chance really. If mine are looking “iffy” I just soak them, make sure the jewellery is clean (I have to take mine out for work) and keep an eye on em.
Woah this was long sorry! X
