They both sat in silence, each trapped in their own mind. The influence just a few simple words had were admirable yet frustrating. The thing with teenagers is that they always refuse to give up and when they are determined enough, they might reach great things. Or destruction. Viola and Julian weren’t sure where they stood with each other, especially now. Some hards words were said by both and even though; deep down, they knew that neither of them meant what they said, it still hurt to hear those words from their loved one.
Julian was the first to break the silence, as he knew that his girlfriend was someone who gave silent treatments better than anyone he knew. He wasn’t sure what he was going to say, but backing down was not it.
Her head turned to him, face distant, but her eyes betrayed her. Dark brown her fell down past her face and she looked vulnerable and distraught.. Julian felt a pang of guilt, but he knew he wasn’t the only one at fault. Viola shrugged, not really sure of the answer herself.
“What do you want us to be?”
They both knew the answer to that. It was as clear as day to anyone that they loved each other. Only something horrible could break them apart. Never in their wildest dreams had they expected that something to be themselves. But the feelings never left or even faded. They were still there. They both felt it when they looked at each other and they both felt it when their eyes met. Storm met storm, it was not meant to end well.
“I want to fix this. Us. But you said some horrible things, I admit that I did too, but you really crossed the line.”
Julian was left baffled. The fact that she put most of the blame on him really irritated him. She had some things even worse than he had, stung him in his weak spots and yet she had the decency to blame him?
“You hurt me too, Viola. Maybe to you, your words didn’t mean much, but you should at least know now how much they hurt me.”
Anger was clear is his voice and he was wondering if he was right to be this angry with her. After all, wasn’t he doing exactly what he had gotten mad at her for? No, no he wasn’t.
His words didn’t set well with her, she stood up straight, ready to fire back.
“Sure, make me the bad guy. You can act like a saint all you want, Julian, but you and I both know that you aren’t. Fine, maybe I said some hurtful things. I know and I apologize, but you made some pretty low blows too. “
Fuck. He knew he had. What he said had actually been a but worse than her words, but still he refused to let her know that. His temper was getting the best of him.
“For fuck’s sake, Viola. When are you going to understand that you can’t blame this all on me?!”
“I never said that I was blaming this all on you! I even apologized! What else do you want me to do? Kiss your ass?”
“At least I said sorry! You still haven’t!”
“Because I didn’t start that whole mess! You did!”
It was quiet for a few seconds. Both of them were letting the words sink in, both unsure. This was not good. The truth is, Viola and Julian didn’t argue much. Even if they did, it would blow over very quick and it had never been serious. Which led to them not knowing how to deal with arguments like this. They were both teenagers and both bad tempered and it wasn’t hard to see where they were driving themselves. This time it was Viola who broke the silence.
“You know what? Fuck you! I did my part, I said sorry and I admitted that I was wrong. Now it’s your turn to grow the fuck up and stop thinking that you are always right.”
Julian watched her grab her phone from the table and head for the door, he still hadn’t said a word. Today was supposed to be their free day, but the universe had different plans for them in mind. He looked at her from the corner of his eye, hoping to catch something. She stood at the doorframe for a few moments before speaking up again, this would lead to nowhere. She got a headache out of it but that was nothing good.
“Call me when you’re done throwing a tantrum and finally realized your mistake.”
With that she walked out and he was left in silence was once again.
