the monster on tonight’s night hunt was a notoriously fierce demon dog,

blood thirsty and fearless, 

it was not a night hunt to have children in attendance

yet somehow, 

here Jin Ling was, 

you in tattered robes near by

the demon dog lunges, it’s jaws snapping wildly,

Zidan lights the forest night purple, the demon dog knocked back with a force of electricity and his own human anger,

his accompanying disciples through their demon nets on the wounded demon, making quick work of subduing it in its state

Jiang Cheng doesn’t spare a minute to check their work,

immediately turning to you and Jin Ling

“jiu-jiu! i can explain” Jin Ling is quick to stutter out when Jiang Cheng’s heavy foot steps approach both of your crouched forms

you stand up as Jiang Cheng approaches, Jin Ling clutching onto the side of your robes

“this was my fault, don’t blame A-Ling for this,” you’re quick to defend, when Jiang Cheng stares at both of you with an unreadable look in his eyes

you hold onto Jin Ling’s shoulder tightly as you continued,

“Jin Ling was worried, you were going with only a few disciples on this night hunt and though it’s a demon dog, the techniques Jin Ling has been learning at Cloud Recess have prepared him for this. we were coming to help you...” 

you don’t mean to ramble, but the words fall out of your mouth the longer Jiang Cheng stares at you with...

you unsure emotions comes to a halt when Jiang Cheng suddenly pulls both you and Jin Ling into a tight embrace, 

and the words that he utters quickly onto the side of your cheek

I thought you will NEVER run from me..” You kept on running till you were caught in a dead end.. “Nowhere to run now Y/N dear..” He says to you in a tone you never once heard from him.. What has your hushand turned into?.. “W-why d-did.. You.. kill him?.. He was my friend!” He just laughs at when you mentioned his victim “And? Your mine.. I don’t want you to ever run away from me.” You were scared of him.. Your carefree and kind, loving husband.. Turned into a man you don’t recognize at all.. “You are not Wei Wuxian!” You shouted at him “ha.. Haha... HAHAHA!... I’m not Wei Wuxian? Look at me Y/N dear...” he gently caresses your face. “Y-you are not the man I know...” You push him away and just angered the man standing infront of you "Y/N.. Why did you push me?? That man I killed was just your friend right? Though he was pretty much a pain. Always stealing you away from me-" He was cut of when you said "Still! You let him since it felt like the man you fell inlove with was still inside somewhere.. You thought to yourself as it began to rain and he took out a small umbrella from his bag “Here let’s share! Don’t mind the dead man there! Because he is not important!” He smiles at you as he tightly grips your hand so you won’t run off again. You wanted to shout help but he is the only family you have now and so you stay by his side..

He hasn’t done this before.. You thought in horror seeing him all covered in blood “Wanyin!” You shout at your husband “What did you do?!” He laughs at what you said “What have I done? What do you mean Y/N?” He calls out your name he walks to you with blood in his hands. You wanted to run but you can’t it’s like your body is frozen “Y/N.. Don’t run away please...” He says holding your hand gently “Y/N I love you, you know that right? So please don’t run away like my brother...” You remembered what Wei Wuxian did.. He ran away from the Jiangs, basically considered as betrayal. After all you knew he was with Lan Wangji now and he is happy. “Wanyin.. Please don’t do this again.. I won’t leave you if you stop.” He nods and hugs you despite the blood staining your clothes “Thank you love. I promise I won’t do it again.” With that confirmation you knew you weren’t sure about it anymore. Who was he even, why is he like this?, obsessed.. You began to ask Wei Wuxian for help in Jiang Cheng’s condition right now but of course he never knew as he never acted like this.. “He was never like that.. I neved knew he had this side.. I ran away because I would be accused for something I never did..” Thoughts circle your brain through the night when Jiang Cheng held you closer to him as if that was his last hug. You weren’t allowed to do anything unless you ask him for permission or atleast with him. “Wanyin can I go shopping with Yanli?” In truth you actually wanted to meet with Wei Wuxian and Yanli about what to do incase he kills someone again.. “Sure just let me go with you.” You nod and instead you text Yanli about it and said to schedule it another time or use codes. You didn’t want him to go to jail or leave you, but after this incident you make sure to keep an eye on him.

Snippet: Lan Tai (Zhaoli)

I just think Lan Xichen deserves more cute little brothers who thinks he’s the best thing in the world, you know? Aka: Lan Xichen uses guilt trip! It’s super effective.

Lan Tai wakes up in the hospital ward to find the face of an angel hovering over him. When they see his open eyes, their worried face breaks into a relieved smile.

“You’re awake!” Lan Xichen says. He looks tired. He always looks tired. “A-Tai, do you remember what happened? You collapsed during morning training. We were all so worried.”

“‘M sorry,” he says sleepily, lifting a fist to rub at his eyes. They burn with fatigue, which doesn’t make sense. He’d just woken up, hadn’t he?

Wait. “Collapsed?”

Lan Xichen is frowning at him, gently as any other expression he wears on his face, and Lan Tai feels horror crawl up his throat. Oh no, he thinks. He’s finally done it. Lan Xichen is upset with him!

Big hands frame his face, lifting his head so that he’s forced to meet those bright, caring eyes. “A-Tai,” Lan Xichen says, “why are you apologizing? You didn’t do anything wrong.”

Lan Tai hiccups, ashamed at the tears that escape his eyes. “Caused problems.” The child says, miserably. “Was a burden to others.”

Lan Xichen blinks at him. He swipes a thumb across Lan Tai’s cheek and through the tear tracks.

“You were not a burden, A-Tai.” He says, very firmly, and Lan Tai blinks up at him in surprise at the tone. “You will never be a burden. It is our pleasure and honor to take care of our students in GusuLan.”

Lan Tai whines quietly. “Caused problems,” he reminds.

“You did no such thing. You were hurt, and your teacher brought you to the healers so that they could help you.”

Lan Xichen frowns again.

“A-Tai,” he says slowly. “A-Tai, why didn’t you go to the healers when your shoulder first started hurting? They said it looks like it's been going on for a while.”

Lan Tai mumbles out his answer, and it’s too quiet, because Xichen-ge asks for him to repeat himself.

“Did not want to bother them.”

“Oh,” Lan Xichen sighs out, and the sound brings a fresh bout of tears to Lan Tai’s eyes. The older boy wipes them away dutifully, and then leans forward to hold Lan Tai close to his chest. “You would never be a bother, okay? The healers want you to come to them with things like this, before it has a chance to hurt you more. A-Tai, please promise me that you will hold the healers in the highest regard.”

Lan Tai twitches away from his arms, and in that moment realizes, with a great, all consuming relief, that his shoulder no longer even twinges when he moves.

“I do,” he says, almost affronted, and Lan Xichen laughs quietly.

“Then you must trust them to do their jobs.” The clan heir pats him on the head. “They can’t do their jobs if you refuse to tell them when there is a problem. They were sad that you hid it from them.”

Lan Tai falls forward to bury his face into Lan Xichen’s robes. “Didn’t mean to.”

“It’s alright now,” Lan Xichen soothes, wrapping his arms around him. Later, Lan Tai will be mortified at his behavior, but for now he just snuggles closer and accepts the comfort. “They treated you, and that made them feel better. How about you? Your shoulder doesn’t hurt anymore, does it?”

Lan Tai shakes his head against the older boy’s chest. “Is fine.”

“That would be the medicine they gave you,” Lan Xichen says, wisely. “You will stay here for a few days so that they can work with the damaged muscle, alright? It will be a week or two before you can rejoin martial training.”

Lan Tai moans, and it makes Xichen-ge laugh. A hand smoothes over his head, pressing flyaway hair flat, and Lan Tai closes his eyes.

you are standing alone, watching the boats along the riverside pier,

when arms come up to wrap around you,

and you feel someone’s chin land on your shoulder,

before you can even share a word, 

there is a firm kiss pressed against the bottom of your neck,

“Jiang Cheng,” you breathe, surprise and happiness mixing together in a blissful utterance

there is a soft pause where only the wind responds with a caress of your cheek

and then you feel Jiang Cheng’s lips against the bottom of your neck, slowly making its way up,

“Jiang Cheng,” you can’t help but scold slightly, note the public setting that you both are in,

at your second call of his name, the Sect Leader spins you around to face him, 

brackets you against the wooden rail of the pier

“your fault,” Jiang Cheng tells you and you can’t help but smile at his childish words,

can’t stop him when he leans in to pull you in a deep hug, nosing at the juncture of your neck

“you smell nice,” his lips murmur against your skin

and you hug him tighter, 

glad that he loved the new scent of lotuses and lavendar etched onto your skin

Xue Yang

familiar scents, sentimentality would surprisingly be something that Xue Yang was attentive to

so when he comes to meet you at the inn hall that you both always meet at,

he is surprised 

he’d become used to the natural scent that he had connected to you, earthy and herbal from your work at your father’s medicine shop

but today,

when Xue Yang gets a whiff of something sweet, floral, and looks up to see you approaching

his eyes widen along with an interesting smirk,

“this is new,” Xue Yang comments when you both sit down at the shared table

and you give him a questioning look,

“cherry blossoms,” he notes, and you watch him take an exaggerated breath of the air around you,

“cherry blossom...” Xue Yang says 

and your eyes widen at his attention,

you had just tried a new perfume of cherry blossoms and ylang ylang

and you didn’t that it would make much of a difference

or mask the scents of all the herbs that you brewed in the medicine shop

but surprisingly to Xue Yang

Mingjue sits on the bed, watching you by your vanity

the night routines that he shares with you are the most relaxing moments of his day,

he can name practically all the steps that you take by heart

which is why when you return to bed with him,

he can immediately tell that something is different

“y/n, you smell like jasmine,” Mingjue comments right away as you lay in his arms

“yes, i finished the perfume you bought me a few days earlier, we can go back to buy it again,” you tell him, 

but your surpised by Mingjue’s strong hold around you, and the gentle kiss that he presses to the crown of your head

“i like this scent, soothing,” Mingjue tells you and you smile, leaning on his chest,

“mhm,” you hum,

happy to provide this bit of care and love

to your hard working husband

Lan Xichen

you have always looked beautiful teaching, that to Xichen is undeniable,

but Xichen worriedly picks up on the small tell-tale signs of your exhaustion,

the slight tremor in your hand that you hide in your sleeves,

the way that your eyes close slightly in between the short breaks when your students are reading

Xichen barely waits for the student’s dismissals to come into the hall, almost barreling into you as you try to leave

“y/n,” Xichen calls you, catching your arms

“i need to stop by the library,” you tell him, 

and he knows that you’re using the work voice with him,

“y/n,” Xichen tries again, blocking your path

he knows how important that this new teaching position at Cloud Recess is to you,

but he can’t rest easy knowing (clearly seeing) that you have not been taking care of yourself

your eyes land on Xichen’s face, and he watches your face ease a few tense lines 

“i’m fine,” you reassure, 

and Xichen doesn’t buy it for one bit,

“let me accompany you then,” Xichen tries,

and you let out a sigh, about to retort to him

perhaps the sharp way that you had looked up had been too fast

but either way, your vision suddenly tunnels

Xichen’s arms wrap around your immediately, bringing your swaying form close to his chest

your hear his sigh above you as you get your bearings back, 

slowly notice the tight, scared way that you’re holding onto his robes, 

“come back with me,” Lan Xichen tells you as his arms wrap around his shoulder in a hug,

‘time to rest, i won’t allow any more work,’ you know he means

and really you never knew your limits very well

so it’s a blessing to have someone like Xichen

Song Lan

your sword wavers, ever so slightly as you bring it back to your side

you feel tired,

“it’s completely gone,” Song Lan reassures,

 you make to nod when your vision swims,

Song Lang notices immediately, 

reaches out to grab you, pull you close to him before he could second guess himself

your knees give in fast, and Song Lan holds you upright, surprised voice breaking out into the night

“y/n,” Song Lan breathes, the warmth from your body muted, almost as if you’d been suppressing it for a while

with you leaned against him, the pin pricks of close contact move their way up his arms and shoulders

but he ignores his own discomfort, lifting your robe sleeves to the sight of red, 

small but clearly dangerous,

poison scratched onto your hand

Song Lan looks down at you, hears your strained breathing and decides that this can’t wait,

he quickly maneuvers your arms around his neck, and lifts your legs up in a quick bridal carry

“try to hold on for a few minutes, we’ll go back to the inn” Song Lan says, a reassurance that only he himself hears

your eyes fully close and your arms draped around his shoulders loosen

this close he gets a clear scent of dew and dirt from the night hunt

and a clearer scent of something so distinctively you

Xiao Xingchen

when your hand suddenly tightens in the crook of his elbow, 

Xingchen stops, worry churning in his stomach

perhaps he should have been more attentive to you during this long journey

had pushed to the back of his mind, 

the stumbling steps,

and late night talks

and days without a proper meal

all the days you had simply answered, “it’s okay,” to the hardships, because at the very least your didn’t have to endure it alone

Xingchen turns to you, having become much better at pinpointing exactly where you are

grabs your hand, to steady you,

steady himself

“y/n,” he calls to you 

he’s surprised by the sharp downward pull of your hand and realizes with a start that you are falling, 

Xingchen wraps his arms around you, lowering you to the ground 

the path that they are taking is deserted anyways, so he doesn’t believe many will mind that you both are stopped as you are in the middle,

“i’m sorry...just need a moment,” 

Xingchen’s brows furrow at your apology, and he reaches out to find you, hands patting slowly from your connected hands up to your shoulders,

his hand comes up to cup your face, startling slightly at the warmth there,

“why didn’t you tell me you had a fever,” Xingchen asks, later on when you both are sat in the shadow of a large tree a little ways up the path, 

“i didn’t want to delay you,” you respond honestly, voice breathy even though you are leaned in his arms 

i would wait for you, Xingchen finds himself thinking immediately,

but not yet quite saying

screaming about it 

the moment that he got home and saw you perched on the table

far from the blob on the wall

he’s running to your side with the loudest scream, even though the spider is not anywhere near him

“my hero,” you can’t help but sarcastically note as Wei Wuxian joins you in the table that you’re currently on top of

you blow a breath out of your mouth, summon your courage and take the broom that you’ve been holding

sweep it against the corner of the wall where the spider is

it skitters a few haste steps

you both scream

and honestly, new apartment vibes

it’s a bit embarrassing to admit but you both spend the afternoon hostage on the table in your own apartment

luckily Jiang Cheng pays a visit later on

and he’s fussing calling you both babies

but at least the spider’s gone

you would all think that he would have a calm time removing it 

i think he’d be a little worried about it escaping the little contraption that he made to capture it 

but as a Lan, 

the cringe from his side is only barely noticeable

you hide behind him the whole time,

until the very second that he flings the little critter out from the plastic cup out the window,

with less grace than you had expected

but honestly, it’s a spider

so you don’t hold it against him

“thank you,” you tell him, finally letting out a breath of relief now that the spider was far far away 

now you could finally get back to work in peace

only, just as you’re turning away

you feel a tug on your arm

you look up to see Lan Wangji giving his cheek to you,

“thank me,” you hear him saying, surprisingly coy

and you make a face at him, but press a quick peck on his cheek before quickly leaving

and Lan Wangji smiles, the smallest of lifts at the edge of his lips

Nie Huaisang

screaming about it 2.0

“you go kill it!” you tell Huaisang, pushing him 

“you saw it first!” Huaisang childishly retorts, pushing you

“you’re closer to it!” you yell

and it becomes a little back and forth of you pushing each other on the couch

and you don’t know how long this goes on for exactly,

but when Huaisang nearly pushes you hard enough to fall off the couch,

your head turns to catch the empty spot by the window sill, 

spider nowhere to be found

“it’s gone,” you comment, 

and Huaisang follows your stare,

lets out the biggest sigh of relief and actually deflates on the couch next to you

you hurry to close the window, taking your chances

“phew that was so tiring,” Huaisang says and you can’t help but roll your eyes at him

“you didn’t even do anything!” 

“it was scary alright!”

and alas commence your normal bickering

Lan Sizhui ｡.｡:∞♡*♥

Sizhui was someone that everyone was always looking at

not only was he handsome,

but he was kind, soft natured, smart and charming 

with so many great traits

and so many eyes on him always

you never thought that you would stand a chance

but what you didn’t realize was

that Sizhui had always paid the most attention to you 

you both had met through your campus’ tutoring center

and before he knew it, Sizhui began to look forward to the hour or so that you would both spend at the library together

even though you weren’t very good at physics

Sizhui still sees your work ethic shine through 

you put dedication into everything that you do

and make the effort to come to the sessions prepared, and more invigorated than other students who’ve had him

you also treat him as a friend, 

it’s a refreshing feeling, being treated as someone valuable more than just someone to either get homework answers from or a pretty face to look at 

Sizhui’s handwritten notes for you help you pass your final exams

and his encouragements stay warm in your heart

long after your tutoring sessions end

you guys don’t date,

not really

but you still keep the funny sticky notes that he’d write on your planner,

remember the reddening of his cheeks whenever you catch him staring at you 

know that time did seem to pass by too fast whenever you both were within each other’s presence

and well, you guys never really dated

but you sure knew

how you both felt
