Wrex was quick to search and recover Shepard. Now he works to keep her survival a secret as his people looked for the Normandy. There's just a few problems with that. 1. The alliance wants her and Hackett suspects she's alive. 2. The mass relays and most of the technology-based around them are no longer functioning. 3. Keeping her alive. Where's Vakarian when he needs him? Preview of Chapter 6 below:

"No. I saw him working with some humans. Talked to an N7 jackass he was spending time with. Mentioned how he was mourning Shepard. Said the ship was here. Thing is, if Grunt was sure Shepard was dead he'd be angry. He looked down right contemplative out there."

Wrex puts his gun away. His biotics glow around his own fist. A show that he wasn't truly unarmed. Not that krogan ever are. "He might be." It was difficult to admit it, but she wasn't looking good. Relunctantly he steps aside, clearing the doorway, and Jack's view of the room. Instantly she was heading for the bed. Her feet stop at the foot of it. It was indiscernible as she stares.

"Damn!" The tattooed woman leans in closer to get a better look at Shepard. "Looks like Garrus took me literally when I said bite her." She pulls back. "Or something else tried to take her face clean off."

"It looks better now." He hears a sharp intake of air through clenched teeth. Jack stops leaning over Shepard. Now she's standing at the foot of her make shift bed. Wrex's extra blankets were still covering the rest of her body. Only her shoulders, and up were visible. The salarian had even tucked her in, making sure to keep her arms out. "There had been nothing clean about it." Dirt and grime had worked its way into most of her wounds. The doctor had a tough time cleaning them all without making the wounds worse.
