Summary: Nostalgia came in a bottle for you and Choso for different reasons.
Warnings: Primarily based on my own headcanons, unedited fluff.
From the time that Choso spent outside of his captivity, alive and breathing, he had very limited access to things that most people would have. For starters, curses didn't shower. The only person who really did in Geto's group was, well, Geto. However, because of this rather unfortunate circumstance, Choso only bathed in the ocean water of the beach domain where Geto and the other curses resided in.
Upon first meeting Choso, he smelled like someone who spent a lot of time in the sun. There was the subtle, metallic smell that emanated from the tall man, with a crisp, salty undertone. You weren't put off by the scent, if anything it reminded you of the rare times you spent at the beach with friends and family during summer break. It made a lot more sense when he finally admitted to having bathed in seawater until things went awry with Geto.
Domesticity was almost foreign to the human-curse hybrid, himself. His basic understanding of mannerisms and family formed with the help of Geto, Mahito and his two brothers. With that, he knew most of what was expected of him, just not the supermundane things like how a microwave works, what the remote for the television did and why the water in your shower needs to be adjusted before he started the shower.
You did your best to situate him into your own living space, albeit cramped thanks to the minimalistic design by Japanese architects. Towering over you at about 6'2, it was a miracle he fit through the doors of your apartment.
Over the course of the first week or so, you would teach Choso how to use the appliances in your house. The bathroom was the most finicky of all because the settings were all dealt with outside the actual bathroom itself and the buttons were all so confusing.
His eyebrows were crinkled as he tilted his head at the panel on the wall, "So you... dry your clothes in there too?"
With a small nod, you pointed at the button again, "When you finish washing your clothes in the machine in the kitchen, you hang them in the bathroom and press this to air dry them."
Since moving in, Choso has mastered setting the perfect temperature for the shower before heading into it. He learned very early on that if he didn't, he would be unpleasantly blasted with ice-cold water. Something that happened the first few times, sending him into your little shelf of bath products.
He had been gone for exactly three minutes, long enough for you to finish the last bite of food on your plate. You thought everything was well until a loud crash followed by several more loud noises of falling things in your bathroom alerted you otherwise.
Gently rapping on the door, you called out for the giant, "Is everything okay in there, Choso?"
You assumed he was restocking all the things he knocked over as he let out a muffled response. Peering over, you noticed the panel on the wall indicated the shower water was well below comfortable, "Is the water too cold?"
Moments later, stomach still tightening from your muffled laughter, you explained to Choso that he forgot to change the water temperature. He had a rather small towel wrapped around his waist, fist bunching the corner to keep his modesty and water dripping all over your floor from the ends of his hair.
"So 37 is the perfect temperature? Not too hot? Not too cold?"
"Google says it's the average, but you can try it today and see. Adjust it accordingly tomorrow if you want."
Choso came to love showering. You even took him shopping to help him find bath products for him to call his own. There was a lot of bottle sniffing involved, but Choso was confident in his pick of the vanilla-coconut-scented body wash and shampoo.
It reminded him of the times he dipped his feet into the cold ocean water, tides rippling over his skin with the gritty sand embedding itself between his toes.
Cuddling was one of Choso's favourite things to do, especially right after a nice shower. He always felt warm and content, snuggling up to you like the oversized teddy bear that he was. Hair still slightly damp, skin soft and smile nuzzled into the crook of your neck.
He felt safe.
For you, the scent of coconut reminded you of the first time you met him. It was the association of a nice day on a beach with fruity drinks to compliment the warm weather.
Notes of vanilla just felt like Choso. It was soft and tickled your nose like the first whiff of your favourite pastry coming out of the oven, sweet just like the very man clinging to you as his eyes started to lid from calm fatigue.
Both notes fit Choso's profile and mingled with his natural scent like the perfect combination. Artificially-scented or not, it complimented him all too well.
Choso grew accustomed to using technology for the most part. He was a quick learner and adapted to the basics you taught him without any setbacks, opting to learn the rest on his own as he went about using the device(s), but if there’s one thing that still gets him; unsolicted phonecalls.
Choso is the epitome of Don’t Call Me, Ever. If you need him or you want to talk to him verbally, you have to send him a text message first so he can anticipate the ringtone. Since he doesn’t have many points of contacts, his phone rarely buzzes with notifications unless it’s from you or Itadori, so he never bothers to leave it on silent. With that said, if a call comes in, the sound of his cellphone ringing to life almost always startles him and he hates it.
Even if it’s not loud, the sheer intrusive sound of the ringing—regardless of the tone he sets—gives him a jump scare and he kind of freezes up for a second. It took him a while to figure out how to disable the “shakey mode” in the settings because a phone ringing and vibrating on a surface is 10xs worse than it ringing and vibrating in his pocket.
Wait till his phone number ends up on the scam calling campaign list 🙃 He’ll either smash his phone or beg for a new number.
Why Choso is the most wholesome baby boy on the planet: Reason #523
He would 100% still love you if you were a worm.
Choso doesn't really have the same perception and understanding of beauty and normalcy by societal standards. He was a cursed womb painting for 150 years and upon being released, his brothers looked the way they did and he still continues to love them. Hell, he looked rough himself and of course he could tell that they looked different compared to everyone outside of the curse group that Geto managed. To most people, his brothers obviously looked a little quirky—especially Eso who had a human-looking body with different traits. Aside from the fact they are brothers, Choso doesn't see anything wrong with physicalities and that will translate to you as well.
Choso is emotionally intelligent and will pick up on feelings and emotions really well, especially once he's been able to experience them first or second-hand. He can tell when something bothers you or has you feeling down/not yourself but once you explain that you don't like something about yourself, he would more than likely confuse the soft bean, "What do you mean you think your hips are too [small/large]?" or that "your skin looks rough because of your kira-kera-toe-sis pillar-ass??" (keratosis pilaris)
It's not so much that he ignores them or is trying to soothe you, he wholeheartedly never took those "flaws" and "insecurities" of yours into active scrutiny. To him, that's just a part of you and there isn't a reason to point them out/judge them.
So if you ask Choso (jokingly) if he'd still love you if you were a worm, he wouldn't even think twice about saying anything else but yes. I mean, he might ask what a worm is or why you want to be a worm but that's just his natural curiosity.
Hi! Now that our boy has finally been revealed in the anime I can share my headcanons! Enjoy~
So our baby was pretty much a fetus sealed away in insolation until Geto and Mahito woke him and his brothers up. I have no doubt he is a very quick learner and it's been proven that he's emotionally intelligent and a thinker. But there's still a lot of things (small things especially) that he may or may not understand like clipping his own nails when they get long, how to use transit etc.
He's basically a big baby and I mean it in all senses possible.
He has mastered his specific hairstyle but because it's easy. It's not always parted and even tbh but it makes do. If he sees a new hairstyle, he'd ask his s.o. to help him into it or to show him on herself how she does it.
Choso wears what he wears because it's all Geto and Mahito had on hand plus he's a very tall boy. Same thing like his hair, it'll take time for him to find something he's interested in trying and until he's confident in his choices he'll look like an awkward and insecure noodle in your living room, trying to show you his outfit and ask for opinions.
He is not used to physical touch but he's also not against it. Again, basically a baby. If he trusts his s.o. (which is he will rather quickly) he'll always want to be near you if he's not at least able to touch you in anyway. Physical touch is his love language and I don't take criticism.
He'd probably develop an affinity for movies and books, books because it helps him learn to read/comprehend and works on his visual imagination while movies are fun and he can learn a lot just by visual adapting to it.
Movie nights at least once a week and a bedtime story (whether he reads alone or you read to him) a couple times a week. If you can cuddle him and play with his hair during either, that's just a bonus in his books.
It was also shown that he played board games, he'd probably want some of that to do too so it might start a little collection in your closet or under your coffee table
So I stand corrected, physical touch and quality time are his top two love languages.
He doesn't strike me as a picky eater, at least not obviously. If he eats smth that doesn't sit right with his palate, he'll probably just chew a little slower than usual. He probably hates natto tho because the beans are both sticky and stinky but if anything he probably really likes anything that's easy to eat like a sandwich or onigiris. If you make soup tho, he'll look like a happy child because "you can put so much in there and it's just warm and comforting"
Choso is a giant but he's also the oldest brother so I know for a FACT that he would be the best with kids despite his sullen eyes and the curse marking on the bridge of his nose.
My god, put him in a cute pastel or cream sweater and he'll look so cute that all the kids want to climb all over him and ask him to read to them.
I saw someone had hc'd that he'd be a good painter, his drawing aren't bad but he's probably more proud of his paintings than drawings so those would decorate your living room but he would also teach kids to paint
Aight hold up, what if he worked at a daycare? He might bring home some pieces from the kids but some of his pieces would probably also be at the daycare.
Choso's not really a night owl or an early bird? He can appreciate either or because being up late/early enough means ambient vibes.
His favourite place to be? Your arms, a given, but your balcony. Again, because he likes the ambience he'll sit out there for hours just people-watching and admiring the city view both.
Favourite genre? Pop-Punk/Punk-Rock like Panic! at the Disco, Fall Out Boy, All Time Low, Bring Me The Horizon.
That said, lofi/hip-hop beats to study and chill to is his go-to playlist actually because it’s soft on the ears and he can’t explain the feeling he gets when the two of you are doing domestic things with it playing in the background.
A small blurb about Choso falling for his roommate...
Choso and his roommate went out to enjoy a nice day at the park under the trees. There's a lot of people out and about, especially couples. As the two of them walk past a pair by the pond, he overhears the boy asking if he could kiss the girl. Choso absentmindedly watches as the girl nods, and the boy pulls her closer to plant a long smooch on the girl's lips. His own roommate too preoccupied with the sight further down, where two dogs were rolling around under the shaded tree, didn't notice the way Choso watched them from above, wondering if he would be successful in doing the same thing.
They turn around, piquing interest at the way their date is watching them with knitted brows and a slight frown, "What's wrong Choso?"
Snapping him from his deep thoughts, he jumps, "Oh, nothing, sorry."
The blush that dusted the bridge of his nose just under the marking doesn't go unnoticed, but they drop the interest. Instead, points towards an ice cream stand and asked if he would be interested in some.
Later in the evening, when Choso and his roommate return back to their apartment, Choso pauses in the little foyer. His roommate had long disposed of their shoes, shuffling towards the kitchen with their little bag of errands they had stopped in for on the way home.
When Choso still doesn't budge after the groceries were put away, his roommate grows puzzled at his behaviour. Before they could ask about it, Choso mumbles about something. They inch closer to the tall being, "Choso?"
"Can I... Can I kiss you [Y/N]?"
The two of them remained frozen, staring at each other. His eyes couldn't decide whether to maintain eye contact or take up an interest in his roommate's fluffy house slippers so he alternates between both.
"You want to kiss me?"
Choso looks up from her feet, nodding, "I saw someone ask at the pond today. I've never kissed anyone before but I want to kiss you. It just... seems like the right thing to do?"
Of course, he wasn't so sure, he was after all still new to the world with what little knowledge he was given from Geto and Mahito upon being released from the seal. None of it was about love, neither of them was capable of loving—perhaps Geto, but that wasn't a motivating factor for his current state.
However, in the amount of time Choso had spent with his roommate, he always had a surge of an indescribable feeling around them. From soft touches and kind smile, the amount of patience they seemed to have an endless supply of when teaching him about the mundane things that a regular person would come across, whether it was how to refill the hot water dispenser and how to set the new batch of water to boil, or whether it was teaching him how to cook certain dishes so he could feed himself while they were at work, he absolutely loved spending time with them. In some ways, he felt like the neighbour's cat. Both Choso and the cat would often remain in the apartment when their roommates would leave for work. Minding their own business, they moved about in their space or spent time lounging in the sun on the balcony... The cat often wandered over to hang out with Choso's quiet presence until it got boring. When their roommates would return home, both of them would bound off to greet their respective persons.
On the day his roommate would come home later than usual, he would want to hug them but seeing their smile was enough to remind him that everything was okay, they just had something come up at work or the trains were delayed.
As long as his roommate came home, he would be happy. When his roommate would bake desserts, he would also be happy. Lazy days away from work and responsibilities meant the two would watch movies or his roommate would read to him and talk about all sorts of things—it was never a dull moment when he got to hear his soothing roommate's voice.
Choso loved his roommate, but he wasn't too familiar with that concept romantically. All baby Choso knew was that a kiss just seemed to be the right thing. If that's how people showed affection to those they loved outside of family, he wanted to show his roommate his affection too.
