26 - The Great Game
Kris winced as the needle slipped into her vein, then she pushed the plunger.
As the med-x pumped in her veins, it just felt nice.
The pain and aches she had from the Legion ambush melted away.
She pondered the course of the Great Game, life.
Survival was the only way to win.

Chems Pt. 1
Mentats: The fallout equivalent of Methylphenidate, a medication used to treat ADHD and narcolepsy. Chewable tablets that help the user focus and heighten awareness through their senses. The addiction rate is medium-low in most cases, but withdraw effects are considered nasty. Symptoms include moods swings and irritability—anything considered uncharismatic really. Severe withdraw can lead to migraines and, even, paranoia.
Stimpaks: They are a mixture of some kind of stimulant and maybe adrenaline, to fight the lethargy pain brings, with a coagulant and healing accelerant to stop the bleeding and heal wounds quickly. First, there's the sting of the needle, but after the discomfort fades, there's an almost soothing heat that forms in the wounded areas. The effect isn't instantaneous, but it can heal minor wounds within a few hours. Broken bones might take more than one stimpak and a night of restful sleep. The formula itself isn't addictive, but there are cases, though extremely rare, where people have gotten addicted to the sensation that accompanies the healing effects.
Med-X: The fallout equivalent of Morphine. A practical, yet heavy-duty painkiller that is commonly used in small doses. Since it is essentially a narcotic, it will make the user loopy, lethargy is a common symptom in habitual use. Symptoms include itching and euphoria. Habitual use can lead to addiction.

Sooo, I stumbled across this tower, while doing a side mission. Kill all the raiders, yadya.... get to the top and there’s a switch. I touch it naturally, because that’s what you do, touch everything. A siren goes off, nothing special. I’m thinking well this will be a big annoyance while I kill all the raiders that just popped up.
Tell me why I look down and there’s not one deathclaw, but two, and one is a legendary alpha male... I’m shitting bricks, watching them rip through those poor bastards like nothing, loathing it because I just know I’ll be next. I crouch, waiting for them to go away, only to notice that they’re literally walking in circles around the tower even though they don’t know we’re there.
Except they do because Cait’s high on psycho as usual and is egging them on. So, I do what any good boyfriend does, hide behind the much more terrifying girlfriend, who gets swiped down in one hit. I can’t just let them eat my girlfriend, gotta protect the poon. So, I downed my jet, and every last bit of drugs I have. Psycho, buffout, med X, whatever. I’m thinking why not, I pretty much never use this stuff anyway. I hulk out, beat the shit out of the first deathclaw, as the other one is nowhere in sight. Just as I’m about to kill it, boom, the baby daddy comes from around the corner and jumps me. I’m thinking I’m dead, but nope, for the first time since I can remember, I actually took a hit from a deathclaw, and a legendary alpha at that on survival, and I wasn’t in power armor.
We’re duking it out now, blood’s flying everywhere, I’m pumping shotgun shell after shotgun shell into his legs, sack, whatever I could see while his claws are fucking me up, and after what seemed like ten minutes of fighting, the bitch finally falls. Only for the other deathclaw I figured ran to come back and one hit me after all that work, lol.
Reload, rinse, repeat. Finished off the normal deathclaw with jet, then downed the rest and killed big papa. Now I’m even more fucked up on chems than Cait is, but I’m alive, lol. Lesson, do drugs. Do lots of drugs.
Oh and, gotta love endurance and strength builds. Without that and ballistic weave, I’d have been pretty much fucked, drugs or no drugs.
edit: Lol at square blood splatters, da fuq is up with that.
edit: edit: Ah, forgot to update my blood splatter mod, lol. Fail XD
