Gainesville, FL., February 8, 2019 - MediaPost is an integrated publishing and conference company whose mission is to provide a complete array of resources for media, marketing and advertising professionals.
In Media Post’s February 7, 2019 article by Sara Guaglione guest editor, Ava Duvernay takes the subject of “The Art of Optimism” from the February issue of Time magazine and brings her unique perspective to the content. A variety of subjects are spotlights in this issue. 34 people from every aspect of the art world were featured in this piece. The ills of the world and the current state of division in the country have many people feeling helpless, even hopeless. Duvernay has not been immune to these feelings. With her platform it allows her to help but it also allows her to see things that she never did before. She is closer to the: bigotry, poverty, injustice, trauma, trouble.”
Duvernay used this piece as a gift to herself, a way to recharge her wearied spirit. She relies on the soul within the art for her healing. She reckons that everyone is made more alive by the optimism within art. Digging through the despair that is faced each day and grasping onto the ideals and goals of the artist enliven the heart. Being the filmmaker that she is Duvernay called out to followers to submit their own visions of optimism.
From reading Duvernay’s perspective on optimism and witnessing how it fills a void created by current circumstance it builds a desire within the reader to read the piece in Time and possibly contribute to the video submission. This piece gave the reader a peak under Duvernay’s hood to see what drives her, what fuels her passions and allows her to thrive as an artist herself. Optimism is gained after reading her vision and is felt even in looking at the cover art from the magazine.
