Hi! Hope you’re well. I wanted your opinion on something. So I’m on the psychotic spectrum and I recently went to a new doctor for psychosis and found out I actually check a lot of the boxes for major depressive disorder as well. They want to put me on 2 medications for it ,which I believe can help me, but I’m already on 2 medications for psychosis and I feel like that might be too much. I’m torn. On one side I think it can help but on another I think I’m on too many meds. And there’s so much stigma around antidepressants that it gets to me… I don’t really know what to think
Hi!
Medication is a very personal decision for everyone and it really depends on you, but from my perspective, I am personally on a good number of meds myself and I'm currently living my best and happiest life.
I've got clozapine, lithium, prozac, wellbutrin, propranolol, buspar, a couple different sleep aids, and some birth control to help with period cramps. Its a lot of meds to take every day, but its the right decision for me and my life.
In regards to the stigma, there is absolutely nothing wrong with correcting a chemical imbalance in your brain. That's medicine, treating the part of you that is sick. You dont ever have to be ashamed of taking the measures you need to in order to get well and be healthy.
If you choose to move forward with the new medication, please remember to keep your medical team aware of whatever is going on and if something feels wrong.
If you decide not to, it should be because of what you feel is right for you, not because of the opinions of others or the stigma we face as mentally ill people.
Whatever you do, good luck and I believe in you!
