"Let the World tremble as it senses all you're about to accomplish." Latest video: The Mongol Invasion of the Tangut Kingdom, April 1209-January 1210: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ScgDJUf6GVA
Perhaps a little lightly armoured, but you get the point. Well, the intention I suppose was for the Mongols to get the point. My video on the Mongol invasion of the Tangut Kingdom: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ScgDJUf6GVA

Students in China studying for the all-important civil service exam for anyone who wanted to work in government. I think this is Song Dynasty, 1100s AD. #backtoschool #backtoschool2017 #teachersofinstagram #medievalchina #songdynasty #schoolinchina
The first movable type, from China in the 1000s AD, was created by Pi Sheng. Earliest Chinese printers had used block printing for scrolls, but the new invention of books made movable type more useful. It turned out to be hard to use with so many Chinese characters, though - movable type worked better with the alphabet, so it caught on faster in the west. #printing #movabletype #medievalchina #medievaleurope #alphabet #gutenberg #pisheng
A giraffe in China. In 1413, Zheng He's ships sailed to Bengal in India, where in 1414 they met ambassadors from Malindi in East Africa (now Kenya). The African guys had giraffes with them, and they gave one of those giraffes to the Chinese, who took it home. A year later, the Africans sent another giraffe to China, along with a zebra. Later they sent even more animals. #giraffe #kenyahistory #mingdynasty #medievalchina #medievaltrade
The Pleasure of Fishes (met museum NYC) by Zhou Dongqing (Yuan Dynasty, late 1200s) is a Taoist painting which refers to a famous story about recognizing feelings of joy in others. Holding the Tao in my heart today as events unfold around me. #taoism or #daoism #yuandynasty #metropolitanmuseumofart #medievalchina #china #zhoudongqing
