Is there a reason for why Kelly Jo's mother has a long name? It seems like a lot of last names, but I'm also not familiar with American culture in that area

Over the course of her life, Betty Jo had her Birth Name (Smith), plus 4 Married Names (from her 4 Different Husbands). Confusingly, Husband #3’s Surname and her Birth Name were both “Smith.” While I doubt that Betty Jo referred to herself as ‘Betty Jo (Smith) Callaham Miller Smith Pitcher,’ it’s pretty common to include multiple names in an obituary, etc.

At her death, I’m assuming Betty Jo would have been using “Pitcher” as her Surname; that’s the Surname of her 4th / Final Husband.
